It is much less than 1.5 sec. Actual delay time is a bit longer, about 0.32 sec, since the TV signal also has to be processed by microchips. Robinson was right, sorry.

The fact of this interview is that Robinson showed himself to have little self control, and no ability to deal with an antagonistic interviewer. He would get nothing done in Congress.

You can see the time in between Rachel ending her sentence with "thank you very much for your time sir" and Robinson's response is approximately 1.8-2 seconds. This leads me to believe that the delay really is around 1.5 seconds. And if not, then Robinson takes around 1.5 seconds to RESPOND to a welcoming sentence like this. It shouldn't take someone that long to figure out what to say back...

He didn't claim that global warming is false, but claimed that there is no proof that global warming is man made. Rachel would rather bang her head and smirk than to let Dr. Robinson explain this. Secondly, his children listed as faculty members are gown adults with science PhD's. She makes it seem as if they're still in their diapers. Finally, the 2 dead professors are listed as previous notable researchers and are aknowledged as dead. Similar listings can be found on other college websites.

Wow. Rachel Maddow has devoted a tremendous amount of air time on Art Robinson. DeFazio must be very nervous! He has taken polls, but he is not sharing them. This helps us understand why.

This guy has views so far out on the fringe that he is unfit for any public office in which science, education, taxation, or a multicultural society must be considered. Peter DeFazio has been doing a great job in the Oregon 4th District for decades. He's his own man. All this bullshit about him being in Pelosi's pocket (although I hate it as a perjorative-since she's also an honorable and able public servant) is crap. I've disagreed with DeFazio, but he'll always explain his positions.
It's always interesting to me to find someone who denies that ocean and air temps are climbing steadily. Or to find someone who denies the growing acidification of our oceans. The entire scientific world takes these things as given, but some people driven by profit or politics and their gullible followers declare that it is an evil plot by hundreds of thousands of scientists. I hate stupid people.

@greyflcn I didn't hear any lies. I think Mr. Robinson just couldn't handle the analytical-type questioning Rachel uses (simple as it was in this interview). When she linked two thoughts together, he saw that as trying to confuse the question. The way he presented himself, it doesn't seem like he would be a good scientist or a good Congressman.

I FIRMLY BELIEVED IN CLIMATE CHANGE, ok? I read up on it in National Geographic, tons of publications and newspapers. It made sense to me that man was ruining the planet.
I've watched all his videos, very persuasive guy. I like how he illustrates what choices we have and make now, and what possible outcomes in our global destiny. Believe it or not I have looked at the issue from both sides. I'd share the 20 satelite study that disproves global warming hypothesis but I know it will do no good.
I'd like to share what started me questioning my belief in Global Warming.
Grey, so a lot of the data and predictions are faulty. The study I am referring to might be to simple to be true. As the earth heated it's temperature it radiated a proportionate amount out. Headline: Carbon Dioxide irrelevant in climate debate says MIT Scientist.
All of this alarm, the call to action, to this problem seems to have solutions and that is a global one. A international cooperation to stem emissions and regulate them.
Also if you're going to quote Lindzen. Even Lindzen admits his 2001 study was wrong. Since it was based on that mathematically faulty satellite data I referenced earlier.

And even other skeptics admit his 2009 paper is faulty, because it's comparing apples and oranges, and then acting all surprised that they don't match up.
Notice the tactics, i.e. issue of race, used by Maddow with Art Robinson and Rand Paul are similar to the tactics used by Lawrence O'Donnell with Ron Paul, i.e. the issue of race. Apparently, MSNBC has decided to adopt the issue of race to attack the tea party. Unfortunately, for MSNBC, this tactic will continue backfiring badly as the tea party's composition consists of ALL races which are furious at the federal government. Notice the rapid increase of donations to Art's campaign! $70k+ so far
oh, and by the way, art robinson's sons are also scientists, who both qualified for advanced placement as juniors at caltech after they 'taught themselves' at home. (or at least one of them did, check it out for yourself, don't take my word for it).

Arty never gave a directed answer to Rachel's questions, it took him nearly five minutes just to say "I'm not worry about where the money came from" because he went on a tirad that irrevavate to the question. @finerbiner --I work in this area for years. Read web: you will find all these estimates of delay time. It is all well-known facts. If the receiver's equipment is not tuned up properly (which is often the case) the delay may reach 3 s.
Madow used the dirtiest methods to force the scientist to admit that he was an idiot. I saw this kind of fierce persecution in the USSR, where I lived 40 years. Robinson is a real scientist, like myself. He is anything but an idiot.

It is sad to see how illiterate Rachel Madow, and, unfortunately, many of you, folks, are. She does not know (a) what the speed of light is; (b) that radiowaves and TV signals propagate at the speed of light; (c) that the time delay caused by the round trip travel of the TV signal is dt ~ (36,000 + 36,000) / 300,000 = 0.24 sec. It is much less than 1.5 sec. Actual delay time is a bit longer, about 0.32 sec, since the TV signal also has to be processed by microchips. Robinson was right, sorry.

You can see the time in between Rachel ending her sentence with "thank you very much for your time sir" and Robinson's response is approximately 1.8-2 seconds. This leads me to believe that the delay really is around 1.5 seconds. And if not, then Robinson takes around 1.5 seconds to RESPOND to a welcoming sentence like this. It shouldn't take someone that long to figure out what to say back...

(If you had asked about sex you would have gotten more expressions of interest.) It is beyond my understanding how something like this video is allowed to go uncontested in a court of law. Free speech is a sacred right guaranteed by our constitution. However, slanderous statements like this are vary harmful not only to Art Robinson personally, they are harmful to me and to all Americans that stand to benefit from his intelligent leader from becoming elected to Congress. If I knew a way to sue her for damages I would do it.

In case you missed professor Lewis' credentials, he is Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Santa Barbara. He didn't claim that global warming is false, but claimed that there is no proof that global warming is man made. Rachel would rather bang her head and smirk than to let Dr. Robinson explain this. Secondly, his children listed as faculty members are gown adults with science PhD's. She makes it seem as if they're still in their diapers. Finally, the 2 dead professors are listed as previous notable researchers and are aknowledged as dead. Similar listings can be found on other college websites.

When she linked two thoughts together, he saw that as trying to confuse the question. The way he presented himself, it doesn't seem like he would be a good scientist or a good Congressman.

Grey, so a lot of the data and predictions are faulty. The study I am referring to might be to simple to be true. As the earth heated it's temperature it radiated a proportionate amount out. Headline: Carbon Dioxide irrelevant in climate debate says MIT Scientist.
All of this alarm, the call to action, to this problem seems to have solutions and that is a global one. A international cooperation to stem emissions and regulate them.

The amount of radiation leaving has decreased.
The amount of radiation coming in has decreased.
But the amount of radiation heading back to the surface has Increased, almost entirely in the infrared wavelength you'd expect CO2 and CH4 to block.
Along with the temperature increasing.

Notice the tactics, i.e. issue of race, used by Maddow with Art Robinson and Rand Paul are similar to the tactics used by Lawrence O'Donnell with Ron Paul, i.e. the issue of race. Apparently, MSNBC has decided to adopt the issue of race to attack the tea party. Unfortunately, for MSNBC, this tactic will continue backfiring badly as the tea party's composition consists of ALL races which are furious at the federal government. Notice the rapid increase of donations to Art's campaign! $70k+ so far
