@stevescissors Actually it was the Mammas and the Pappas that wrote and sang this song first and Mama Kass was one of the two female singer's in the group
@daduck100 Judith Durhan & Denny Doherty would have been a great duo to sing this and many other songs of the Seekers and Mammas & Pappas. Maybe some tecky will put the two together with todays technology.
wow,wow-WOW !! She was just so insanely talented - love the vibrato fluxes at the end - they don't teach control like that anymore -- makes me glad i started collecting them in 1966 when i first heard "Georgy Girl" as a little boy and knew i was listening to something special
Judith Durham singing the 60's California Anthem. I was born & raised in Southern California and though I am gone now, and probably forever, this song will always take my memories, and my heart, back to my birthplace. The Seekers and The Mamas & Papas. Both, wonderful groups that sang magical songs of my youth.
A Jamieson Reflection: The opening shot of Judy and its recapitulation in the 707 landing reflects Judy's poise in knowing - (one of the "ivy colors") - that someone she loves is handling the controls and in whose hands she has placed herself in.
Note: In the early days of flying & today most pilots realize a passenger's well being & safety is placed in their hands.
@roughneck31 - you're right. The Seekers had that rare talent to make every other singer of a song seem second-rate in comparison. This song is no exception.

ConnieRadbone I thought she was going to cry at one point. As for being tired, if that was a Quantas flight from down under, on a 707 she would have been tired and upset and probably board to tears. I was!
mauriceshoup I don't remember them ever singing together, I think they were at some concert together but my memory is not clear on that point, However, that would have been a really good sound. All the Best
@HEARTHEANGELSVOICES I know what it is.... I really enjoy the Beach Boys video/cover of this song, and I judge all versions against that yardstick, for good or ill. Judith is a great singer, a dominant force in the Seekers sound, but I think the arraingement could have been more powerful.
For most of the video it looks like Judith is tired from what could have been a long journey. At one part it looks to me if she is worried about something. Then at the end she looks happy. I can easily understant tiredness and worry but what about happy? and did they lane in California?
My parents passed me the "Come The Day" Album, we played it in our home in Enniskillen for years. I love the guitar intro and as much as I lve the Mamas and Papas this is the best version for me. A perfect song to end the Album and thanks for posting.
Extraordinary, excellent work sir - combining the clip of Judith on a plane, looking out the window, and images together really goes with the theme of the song and fits the lyrics.
She never really cuts loose on the higher notes like I know she could, but this is a nice version nonetheless.

@akibubba1 Why do you put Judith in Pass Tense? ( She Was )
Judith is alive and well and still singing and producing album after album.
She in 2011 with the Seekers did an Australian Tour with Andre Rieu.
There are clips here on YouTube of that.
Check her web page and some of her new music... Thanks...

A nice version. It can't touch the Mamas and the Papas, but it's a nice change of pace.

The original is a classic. This version is also fine but the flute solo is sorely missed.

God she's an angel. And she sings like one. They'll never find another girl like you, Judith.
But to diss the Mamas and Papas? That's heresy.
