hongbao - I too enjoyed the voice of Brace Beamer on radio. Us kids, along with our dad, would all lay on the floor in front of our console radio and listen to The Lone Ranger and numerous other radio shows of the day. That's how kids used to use their imagination to create scenes and events. I think we all had our own mental pictues of how we thought our heros would look. I'll remember those wonderful days for as long as I live. Indeed, a great time to have grown up!
Very good, thanks for posting. Does anyone recognize Cavendish as the actor who played Sam the bartender in Gunsmoke? He also played Frankensteins monster in the Abbott and Costello film. His name is Glenn Strange and is my wife's cousin.
Anyone, and I mean anyone, who would post a "dislike" to the Long Ranger is NOT an American!!!!!! There is NOTHING that anyone could point to and say "this is not good".
@speedviper47 Indeed, although the fictional heroes (e.g., The Lone Ranger and Superman) of that era manifested ideals and character qualities which are rare during any era, they did represent values which were a positive influence on most youth of those times. One can wish that we had political leaders, especially now, which viewed America in the same ways.Today, we apologize for being America, demean the Boy Scouts, and esteem efeminate qualities in a "man".The "change" has not been good.
Now here is something most people don't know. In 1939 there was a move the Lone Ranger. I can't remember the actor who played the lone ranger but check this out. The actor Glen Strange who played Butch Cavnedish also had a small role in the 1939 movie along with an actor named Duncan Renaldo who later became the Cisco Kid.
@bubblejomay The movie you refer to was a 15 chapter Republic serial. Bob Livingston (Stoney of the Three Mesquiteers) played a dual role. He was Bill Andrews who adopted the mask of the Lone Ranger along with the outfit and silver bullets. Chief Thundercloud reprised his role of Tonto and Duncan Renaldo played an ally. Needless to say, these changes did not meet with approval from George W Trendle. Both serials were pulled from distribution and all available prints were destroyed.
For me the REAL Lone Ranger ( pronounced "LONG Ranger") was the Mutual Radio Network's voice of Brace Beamer (wonderful name for a radio hero).
TV came later.
I saw Clayton Moore in a Fort Wayne shopping Mall show in the 70's when he had lost his lawsuit to wear the mask and had to wear sunglasses with his outfit.
great clips. "I don't rightly know his real name. But I hear he's been called the Lone Ranger".
"Get 'em up Scout". "Hi yo Silver Away"! Thanks for sharing. He was my trusted friend, my kemo sabay.

Actually the Lone Ranger has been played by several actors on radio, TV, and film. Clayton Moore is the actor most associated with the role.

He was my hero growing up. I still get chills......I guess you would have to have grown up with him to know what I mean.

Appaloosa 2008 may be the start of more westerns. 'Cole and Hitch', Ed Harris, Viggo Mortensen could pull it off? 'DaFlikkers' Nov 07 'Goog' it.
