I don't even have the words to express how I feel about Paul McCartney, and the Beatles for that matter. They are poets and musicians, and I am thankful that I have ears that can hear them ~
Ive been really into Wings for a few months now, ever since I was able to find Ninteen Hundred and Eighty Five on Youtube. Never realized how many great songs Wings had. While Paul seems to get a lot credit for these songs success ( rightfully so), I think the instrument playing was also a huge part of their success. Particularly in this song, the instrument playing in the back ( I dont know what it is) really complements the singing. By the way, I like the way the video fits with the song.
Fimballs good job on the video man, I like how you appreciate wings and I liked the picture you had of Denny Lane and Jimmy Mculock, R.I.P. Jimmy, I have been a massive wings fan for 5 years now I love them
"soldier boy, kisses girl, leaves behind a tragic world...but he won't mind, he's in love and he says love is fine....." does anybody else see a parallel to these lyrics with our present day? i'm so disturbed at the lack of progress we've made.
this song is strangely positive despite the lyrics " listen to what the man says" is not the greatest advice at present.... who was Paul talking about when he wrote this? or was it a general term? this is why I am up at 4am
dude what? even if that was sarcasm. wtf? i would never say that about him. hes a music genius and probably one of the most recognized voices of all music.
the 70's still has a special place in all our hearts. even those of us who werent around for that decade! the music lives on. and even when im older it will.
i have to say to all who say that the 70's are so long ago. Man let me tell you. a lot of teens still listen to this music. hence why im on this video.
Instantly takes me back to the 70's when I was a kid.For some reason this song reminds me of a rainy summer day,as most Mcartney and Wings music does.
First heard "Listen" at a popular lounge on a beautiful Friday afternoon in the spring of '76 when all the "beautiful people" of Modesto came in after work. It was one of those days when everything seemed beautiful, I was old enough to appreciate it (37) and young enough to do something about it, but I was a stranger in town. Wound up harmonizing w/Dean In "Li'l Ol' Wine-drinker, Me."
13 years old waited outside th eKingdome in Seattle 8 hours to get seats for Wings. Wings over America june 10 1976. Just like yesterday. What a privilage..
Yes Paul's concert in Seattle 1976 was rather a watershed. People began to realize Paul's talents far transcended the Beatles. What a PRIVILEDGE to have been there Johng1962
Of all the songs the fab four recorded as soloists, "Listen to what the man said" was the greatest one of them all by Paul McCartney. And I'll take it one step further by stating this song was even better than everything the Beatles recorded together as a group.
But it was`75! That's correct, the year was "1975!" The greatest year in rock and roll's illustrious history. And for those of us who understand, this music will live in infamy forevermore within our hearts, minds, and souls!
This song was on the radio when i was or7 yrs old and we were going to the funeral of an uncle- the first i went to- and i first realized i was black-my mom is italian ,cherokee and my dad is black and i realized i looked like my dad not like my mom or brother-it was weird
Mr.johnson323,...No matter what color you are, you are beloved in the eyes of God. He was the one who created all of us, for his good will and purposes only.
Love this song. I remember reading or listening to an interview with John circa 77-79 thereabouts and he mentioned this and a couple other solo Paul songs. John said 'what the hell is he talking about?' lol.
Paul is a fantastic entertainer. John was a brilliant lyricist. As a team, they were unstoppable, as evidenced by the longetivy of their popularity, and how their music has spanned generations!
My children love them, my nephew, who is only 2 years old sings along with many Beatle's songs. It amazes me.
this song must have inspired Milkys just the way you are although I dont think its a direct sample. Both cool songs IMO. as they say you learn something new evreyday
I also admire the way the man has carried himself through all the nasty nonsense that's been written and the stuff that hag put him through. Long live the lovely Linda. And next time dear boy, listen to your daughter a little.
Gotta love Macca. A creative talent unsurpassed. I think he gets the knock amiss that he is simply a craftsman as opposed to being an inspired artist. That's rubbish. Paul's songs are very inspiring, this is a fave post Beatle song for me. The wonder of it all baby, yeah yeah yeah!
What a great song. The 8 note riff is one of the catchiest hooks Paul (or anyone) ever came up with. The clarinet solo is great, the rhythm is relentlessly hypnotic, then when you think the song couldn't get any better... "The wonder of it all baby (x3) yeah yeah yeah...." and finally the strings & clarinet close it out with one of the best endings you could ask for. Bravo Paul!
I was too young for the Beatles BUT I DID LOVE the Wings! I've still got their stuff on cassette....How time flies...Listening to this stuff makes me feel young again!!!Nnek@ ;o)
yes. the summer of 1975 from venus and mars album. classic. ranks as favorite slow songs by wings along with uncle albert admiral halsey, let em in,and mull of kyntyre.
One of Macca's best tune ever!!;-)....wonder if we ever have a video of them doing this?...thanks fimballs for posting!!.what New Orleans Jazz band was included!??...this tag on the end, was also one of his best, and Macca is known for great tag's!!
"Alright, okay. Really great to see you down in New Orleans. Yeah, yeah, hairy."
That's Wolfman Jack. The same guy in the Guess Who song Clap For the Wolfman.
