"Why we Fight" - Exactly, why do we fight? Anyway, I want to thank the soldiers who gave their life, for me to have my freedom that I have today. May you Rest in Peace, Major Winters.
I'll never forget being at a 1940's style swing dance last year and having Richard Falvey, an honorary Band of Brothers, matching me up with girls my age. What an awesome wingman he was!
although i am British i have to say i admire all the soldiers in WW2 but especially Major Winters, his military techniques set a standard for todays brave men and upon hearing about his death i immediately wanted to travel to the US and pay my respects to a real soldier unfortunately i and many others couldnt go but for the dedication of the soldiers throughout the war im sure there is not only me that has ultimate respect for them and is also eternally thankfull, to them all RIP
As a future soldier I salute these men and everyone who has come to love these men "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers. For he today that sheds his
blood with me, Shall be my brother" I had to share that quote and this part of the series and the part where the german general gives a speech to his men makes me proud to say that i am going to be a soldier.
@goob67896 ye your right and its a real shame there are only a couple of these great veterans left they deserve the upmost respect and there stories shal never grow old
The part where this plays in the series is the one of the most powerful scenes in the series, combined with the music and the news of Hitlers death it is really moving.
Very Very Sad... Not just because of the war and who all the peoble i have fight cry and suffering in the war.. But nowadays peoble will make think to all the problems they have in the world about love such as breaking up with a person and you have regret it almost and it feels like you are in suffering and pain and you can't do nothing about it, it is almost taking you breath when you're breaking with up someone and before you know it you still love that person and you will regret that you have
it is sad that this generation, the generation that began life through the depression, fought for life in WW2, and shaped life policies in the postwar, are dying away now. this generation was truly the greatest generation that has ever lived. how much i would give to be a part of that generation and live like how they lived....
i first learned of major winters death through the comments in this video. the music certainly fit the moment as i realized a great man was dead. rest in peace, Richard Winters
@thefinkmaster1 You clearly don't either when all you can say is a pathetic "dislike" comment, which were never funny in the first place. Far more disrespectful than simply disliking it.
Major winters was in the true sense a hero not only did he face the enemy head on with determination and steely courage but he lead his men to glory and victory we need more men like him and the men of easy company perhaps we can take some time out of our lives to do something good for our country to try and repay the sacrifice these men have made for us god bless and rip true hero

for some reason, Beethoven always makes me cry..... so emotional and so fitting for this very, very emotional yet realistic documentary film. One of my very favorite , and very realistic, so easy to portrait visual films!
The scene was used to represent the resilience of people who were bombed day after day and still held onto what was important to them. Notice the tenderness with which the violinist replaces his violin and bow at the end.The selection was chosen because it was written by a German (ie all Germans are not bad...) and the longing, almost mourning quality that represents what lies ahead for a country that has to completely rebuild itself.

@tetrisclock Adagio for strings was an absolutely beautiful piece and Samuel Barber did an absolutely amazing job on creating a truly eye watering masterpiece, but now that you mention it it does sound like he found inspiration in this movement.
Two of my favroite composers Beethoven and Barber; one giving inspiration, and the other receiveing it, Simply beautiful
@alltakenbutone - It does not matter how long before the war Ludwig composed this piece. It's obvious that this YouTube was created for those for whom classical music is not important yet were still moved enough by its beauty and placement in the series to look it up. The 6th movement is especially remorseful, longing, and profoundly sad. It was very well picked for the episode in which it aired. breaking up with that person... But almost as i think all hope seems out.. i found a new girl and i loving her very much so i am happy again... and about my Ex Girlfriend i don't think about her so much anymore, but still when i am listening to this song i can't deny that i still miss her and still thinking of her
@alltakenbutone But according to friends of mine that survived the concentration camps, Jewish musicians played a lot of Beethovin and therefore, it is quite relevant.
@111matterman The concentration camp scene made me cry a little. It was horrible what they did in those places. And to think that Americans didn't want to get involved, they took the same anti-war stance as many people do today: "its not our problem, it's Europe's" or "we've been through too many wars already".
I know that deep inside...this war must have taken away so much from them. As if you can see in their eyes the rest of their lives was spent feeling the pain. That even though they were not killed...the price they paid was just as severe to their own end. Especially those who never spoke about it. Which is why I have so much respect for our vets...especially WWII vets.
To me the most shocking part of this series was the filming of the actual veterans telling their stories. To imagine them in this movie as young men...barely out of school...doing this job to save all of us. Then to look at their aged faces...and to not really know how all that they know and saw even with their own voices telling us. The fear...the utter fear that must have had a grip on them for so long.
Im 36...and my grandfather just passed. He was a WWII vet in Japan and spoke of terrible horrors he saw in combat. He was proud of his service and his country. I know it impacted his entire life, what he saw and had to do...being only 19 years old. The only time I cried (because he told me not to) was the live taps by the Army...and the rifle salute. Since childhood...he told me thats what he wanted at his funeral...and at that point it came home and hit me. This music came to mind then.
This song identifies the horror of the Second World war. Over half of my family fought in this war and until this day they still cannot talk about the horrors they saw...
The first time I saw Band of Brothers was when it was aired for the first time, I was 11. This episode stuck with me for 9 years till this spring when it was rerunned and I totally fell for it. I have learned so much watching BoB, and I've become a total WW2 nerd. This is not only a tv-show. It's a piece of well done history and I am so glad I saw it again now that I'm older. And btw, I can't believe it's been 9 years.
@lacrooseandshredgnar actually, your questio should be, why do we STILL fight??? this bullshit war between the US and the middle east is going nowhere fast. I don't believe in god or the 2012 doomsday, but i wouldn't be surprised if doomsday occured, but it would be our own fault
@pinkfloydrule27 Its hard to pick a favorite for me, the whole series was a masterpiece. The first time i was deployed in my downtime i would watch the series start to finish and start over again :D
this quartet and the last 4 or 5 of B. were considered crazy , uncomfortable music. The movement is longer than 2 minutes. What gives? Hear Budapest quartet !
@ACDCtheTHIRTEENTH Sounds terribly modern American to me. We have no right to judge other cultures and nations when we have wiped out an entire people (Native Americans) and forced others to subjugate to our will (Iraq, Afghanistan, Hawaii, Philippines, Panama, etc.) We are a nation enraged and the world has known this since 9/11. They fear it because we do have the power to destroy the world over. We must be vigilant against ignorance and deal with our rage before it destroys us & the world.
@AllMuscle1 Wiped out the Native Americans? Really? If that's true, I'm gonna have to have a talk with my papa about our First Nation heritage; he has some explaining to do.
@halo07guy2 Oh, no question about it. But it just always makes my eyebrow raise when someone eludes to the extinction of my people at the hands of anyone; we're still around, was my point is all.
Also, and before anyone asks how dropping A-Bombs on japan was strategic and want to compare it to genocide, remember the U.S.A. gave the empire of japan many chances to surrender. Even after the first A-Bomb was dropped the empire still refused to surrender. They invited death inside their houses the day that they attacked pearl harbor during peace talks.
@restless254 Not only that but if we hadent and kept pushing closer to Japan, we would have exterminated an antire culture because of the bushido code. WE actually saved them.
@Wheatwill that's actually highly debatable, if you consider the the deaths occurring for years after the bombings due to radiation poisoning and fallout.
@blargers123 Actually, it's hardly debatable. If the US (and allies), had invaded Japan on foot, the Japanese (THE ENTIRE RACE) almost certainly would've fought to the last man, as in the last Japanese person. Instead of just a couple hundred thousand in the two atomic bombings, they would've suffered a near genocide. The only debatable factor is whether or not the Japanese would have surrendered if we didn't have the A-bombs.
You know i read these comments, and i honestly feel dumber after seeing what some of you have posted. Dresden was an unnecessary bombing? Really? It was a Nazi supported communications center and the bombing of the city dropped morale for Nazis and ended the war sooner than later. You're probably the same people who think that the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were unnecessary. Say what you want but history holds true that the bombing of strategic enemy centers ends wars quicker.
I wish this song and the feeling you feel while listening to it could go on forever without having to restart it again. Such a beautiful piece of music that will be embedded into my memory for the rest of my life.
To all the men and women who served in World War II we honor you for your bravery and for your loss both physically and mentally.
Check out Brotherhood of Leet at my youtube channel - a re-imagining of WW2 dramas like Band of Brothers as if they were set during the 8 bit wars of the 1980s where Nintendo and Sega are waring nations.
@ACDCtheTHIRTEENTH i kind of agree but what you have to to rememebr is the german people had no choice but to go with hitler to go against the nazis was death or atleast a slow death in a concentration camp. i belive there were alot of good germans but aslo alot of bad ones

beethoven composed this 150 year before WOII. Stop associating this music with the war please

@alltakenbutone But according to friends of mine that survived the concentration camps, Jewish musicians played a lot of Beethovin and therefore, it is quite relevant.

Thumbs up if you were in tears at the end of the episode just like me.

@111matterman The concentration camp scene made me cry a little. It was horrible what they did in those places. And to think that Americans didn't want to get involved, they took the same anti-war stance as many people do today: "its not our problem, it's Europe's" or "we've been through too many wars already".

This song identifies the horror of WWII it is truly sad.

NeilLB7 1 year ago
To me the most shocking part of this series was the filming of the actual veterans telling their stories. To imagine them in this movie as young men...barely out of school...doing this job to save all of us. Then to look at their aged faces...and to not really know how all that they know and saw even with their own voices telling us. The fear...the utter fear that must have had a grip on them for so long.
NeilLB7 1 year ago

Why do we fight? Is my question to the brave men in Easy Company 501st.
lacrooseandshredgnar 1 year ago
@lacrooseandshredgnar actually, your questio should be, why do we STILL fight??? this bullshit war between the US and the middle east is going nowhere fast. I don't believe in god or the 2012 doomsday, but i wouldn't be surprised if doomsday occured, but it would be our own fault

@lacrooseandshredgnar While there was an Easy co. 501st, The show was about Easy co. 506th. Is that what you meant?
JHUD152 1 year ago
@JHUD152 You hear the term 501st so many times in the series that it can become confusing that yes Easy is the 506th lol.

Really? If that's true, I'm gonna have to have a talk with my papa about our First Nation heritage; he has some explaining to do.
jibberjabber098 1 year ago
@jibberjabber098 Though he is right about everything else. We kinda annexed Hawaii by force.
halo07guy2 1 year ago
@halo07guy2 Oh, no question about it. But it just always makes my eyebrow raise when someone eludes to the extinction of my people at the hands of anyone; we're still around, was my point is all.
jibberjabber098 1 year ago
Also, and before anyone asks how dropping A-Bombs on japan was strategic and want to compare it to genocide, remember the U.S.A. gave the empire of japan many chances to surrender. Even after the first A-Bomb was dropped the empire still refused to surrender. They invited death inside their houses the day that they attacked pearl harbor during peace talks.
restless254 1 year ago 2
@restless254 Not only that but if we hadent and kept pushing closer to Japan, we would have exterminated an antire culture because of the bushido code. WE actually saved them.
ToxicSoldier038 1 year ago
@ToxicSoldier038 the atomic bombings actually saved more japanese and american lives than without
Wheatwill 1 year ago
@Wheatwill that's actually highly debatable, if you consider the the deaths occurring for years after the bombings due to radiation poisoning and fallout.
blargers123 1 year ago
@blargers123 Actually, it's hardly debatable. If the US (and allies), had invaded Japan on foot, the Japanese (THE ENTIRE RACE) almost certainly would've fought to the last man, as in the last Japanese person. Instead of just a couple hundred thousand in the two atomic bombings, they would've suffered a near genocide. The only debatable factor is whether or not the Japanese would have surrendered if we didn't have the A-bombs.
painfulgrapeshot 1 year ago
You know i read these comments, and i honestly feel dumber after seeing what some of you have posted. Dresden was an unnecessary bombing? Really? It was a Nazi supported communications center and the bombing of the city dropped morale for Nazis and ended the war sooner than later. You're probably the same people who think that the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were unnecessary. Say what you want but history holds true that the bombing of strategic enemy centers ends wars quicker.

Check out Brotherhood of Leet at my youtube channel - a re-imagining of WW2 dramas like Band of Brothers as if they were set during the 8 bit wars of the 1980s where Nintendo and Sega are waring nations.

The timing of this song in the series is perfect. Kind of a beautiful, yet tragic moment in part 9. Great piece.

@ACDCtheTHIRTEENTH i kind of agree but what you have to to rememebr is the german people had no choice but to go with hitler to go against the nazis was death or atleast a slow death in a concentration camp. i belive there were alot of good germans but aslo alot of bad ones
