what sirius needs to do is make 5 hip-hop/rap channels.. an 80s hip-hop channel, a 90s hip-hop channel, a 00s-now hip-hop channel, a mainstream bullshit bubblegum rap channel to please all the idiots, and an underground channel so we can hear the real talented cats... just my two cents... they gotta realize that the hip-hop culture is huge nowadays including for all us white kids
Ok, is it me or while you're listening to Backspin you'll hear a 0.5 second skip while they are playing certain songs???? At first I thought it was my car radio but I just installed a home tuner in my surround sound home theater in the basement and I hear the same skippage... Have you noticed this? It's only Backspin too
There definitely is something different about backspin. I thought that was happening maybe because of going under and overpass, but then it does just happen out of the blue. And is it me, or are they playing A LOT of the same songs over and over and over again!? And, since when was Puff Daddy "Old Skiil Hip Hop!" I'm letting Snoop Dogg slide, but Puff Daddy? They NEVER used to play Puff Daddy before! And they didn't use to play the same songs over and over and over either! But it's back!
They told me that the new Area would be a replacement for The System...well, it's not! Area definitely should be renamed to BPM2, because every time I turn it on, that's exactly what it is! Plus not only that, Area REPEATS the same songs 3 FRICKEN TIMES A DAY!
Well yesterday I figured.. eh, you know? It's been a couple weeks, maybe things have gotten better on Area. I'm gunna give it another chance.
So I re-installed my XM in the car, turned on Area, and.. SAME REPEATS AS BEFORE!! WTF?!
I noticed that too. SO MANY REPEATS. I like 1st Wave, and Lithium also, but the repeats... THE REPEATS!!!! I mean I heard the same song within 3 hours! WTF!?
I know! my brother has XM and when I would visit, he would put the Rhyme on for me (because he likes that ganster crap, but not around MY kids lol!!!). You're so right I mean poof... VANISHED - NO WARNING!
They really don't have a clue. They are neglecting the rise of INTERNET RADIO! I installed it on my phones, plug it into my car and - BAM - Classic hip hop or whatever I WANT! On the Nokia IR, there are 10 CLASSIC HIP HOP STATIONS ALONE, in addition to infinite UNCENSORED genres/content.
I will admit the quality on IR is not like Sirius USED to be, but the way Sirius is now is almost like FM anyway! And I will take CD quality classic hip hop over NO HIP HOP ANYDAY!!!!
Also, again, you're right. Other than the spa and audiovision channels (and the talk of course), you can get most of the music on Sirius/XM on FREE radio. Someone should have told Mel and Scott that when they got the memo that classic hip hop is dead, they were being "PUNK'D!!!!" ;)
grr..trying to post a link from Reuters but of course Youtube blocks that.. but look for an article called "Mel says lost Sirius/XM channels worth every penny - to bottom line"
Quoted from Mel:
You as a subscriber, though you may miss your channel, you need to make sure we make money because you want us to be around so we can invest in programming and we can provide you with all these services,
Wait, what kind of freaking comment is that?! REALLY! Why not provide the best service and GET MO' MONEY, MO' MONEY, MO' MONEY in increased subscriptions!
Sorry to litter your page, this is the last one for now I promise:
Also quoted from the article:
"Our colleague Franklin Paul said he was upset with the loss of his favorite classic hip-hop channel, The Rhyme. So Karmazin made his best pitch to an old school B-boy.
'We have other hip hop channels,' coaxed Karmazin."
So yeah, as always, the powers that be have no fucking clue how to run a subscription based service!
Yup, I'm doing the same thing with my MotoQ Global and some other stuff I used to listen to on The System. Hey, one good think about this channel merge, I've discovered that I can get podcasts FOR FREE of some shows I listened to on The System!
Plus like you said there's streaming as well. Plus, the sound quality is better.
On the trance side, I took my XM out of the car because the more I checked out the new lineup, the more it was making me want to drive into a tree.
I'm still calling and writing! I NEED MY BACKSPIN! I even offered myself as a DJ if they need a DJ to bring Backspin back! I will not rest until I got backspin on 43!
I can't see why they would want to turn off all the gen xers listening. I'm sure we all make up the majority of listeners. Not only that I'm sure alot of younger people listened as well to hear the roots of hiphop. It really is a shame and I'm very sad they made such a terrible mistake.
A horrible mistake indeed. How could this genre of music be overlooked to begin with. Who the hell wants to listen to 40s music (there are 40s, 50s, Elvis, and 7 COUNTRY stations in addition to endless pop, news, rock and Christian stations on all-DAMN-day, but no room for classic hip hop ALL-DAMN-DAY??!).
What a shame indeed. But do they really think they can ignore us also? I am NOT happy and I will not rest until I am!
Str8isis I'm glad you posted your videos. I posted up a pic that I had taken of Backspin as it was in my car on flickr. Hip Hop Nation is weak, 95% + new school. I like how they tried to appease us with the generic letters they sent us and that they will be putting on a regular "old school" show on HHN. They gave me 2 months for free as I said I was cancelling. If it's not back within 2 months I'm cancelling.
I'm with you. That HHN is some straight-up BULL! That is no remedy for classic hip hop junkies like myself! And I have yet to hear that "Old Skool hip hop show." Please! I have Sirius with my car for a year, but I assure you, I also will not be renewing if there is no Backspin. I love Howard, but not at the steep price of forfeiting classic hip hop! Nope - no way!
Hey There! I just wanted to commend you on your dispute with Sirius. I,too, was a fan of Backspin, as well as Boombox (another sweet channel that got the axe). I am so distraught about this merger. Also, if you noticed, Hip-Hop Nation has been CENSORED!! Yes you read that right. EDITED CONTENT!! I hope things improve or I will cancel my service. I have my own video if your interested in viewing. 'Till Then. FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!!!
Thank you! I actually got a PHONE CALL from the Director of Programming and he informed me that because of all of the complaints, they are considering returning backspin in some way or another. I am not sure if he was blowing smoke, but at least the smoke was pleasantly warm! lol
I can't even listen to Hip Hop Nation or Shade. That music is utter crap!!!! And I STILL have not heard the "daily" Classic hip hop show! I'm still calling and writing - UNTIL IT IS BACK on 43!
I hear you sis. Here it is, a week later and I am still pissed off. I canceled my subscription on the SPOT (screw your 2 free month cause I won't be listening!) All I listen too was Backspin and The Strobe.
Hip Hop Nation IS NOT an alternative! I don't like that new R&B station either. I'm old school.
Well, back to my mp3's with my Sony Ericsson Walkman phone I guess.
Tell me about it. I still feels like yesterday I was slapped in the face by Sirius!
I'm with you. My car has a free sub for 1 year, but I already got the internet radio on my N95 cellphone, found some REAL CLASSIC HIP HOP STATIONS and plugged in! But... it's still no Backspin. I liked when they updated me or provided some news about rappers between songs!
I have been calling and writing EVERYDAY! We will see what happens!
this sucks last week i turned on to my favorited channel 65 the rhyme on xm and it wasnt there anymore, because of the merger and i called, and the stupid lady told me thta hip hop nation is the new station for that type of music and i turn on the station and it has the same shit terrestrial radio has like young joc, lil wayne and bullshit like that, its fucked up i wish everybody would unsubscribe to both xm and sirius so they get the message
FOr real! How can they say that is a suitable replacement for Classic hip hop! IDIOTS! Merge Hip Hop Nation AND Shade - it's the same shit! BRING BACK BACKSPIN!
I work for sirius and get calls all day for ppl like you upset about the new line-up. We get rid of channels because they aren't popular. You and maybe 200 other customers aren't happy with the change and there millions of customers that are. So stop wasting yours time posting vids and wasting ours by calling in the chann isn't coming back. Burn a CD and then you can have all the songs you love so much or you could go to XM we owned them anyways so it wont make no diff
First of all, I'm sure you do not work for Sirius because this is not a proper comment. It is the kind of answer I would expect in an elementary school backyard. Are you in a crusade against Backspin? Within all the people I know who are subscribed to Sirius, Backspin was all in their top 5. This channel was truly unique. I think with a Sirius stock market share down the drain at 20 cents, they should start listening at their customers and the first step should be bringing back Backspin!!!
PLEASE! If you work for Sirius, you are the ONLY peon there who has suggested to STOP CALLING! How many of your "colleagues" are getting calls and missing 43 themselves?! Most of the reps are also upset about Backspin and Strobe being "retired." Oh, and thanx for the insiders info! Since you claim Backspin is NOT coming back, I will INCREASE my number of daily calls and emails. 2 Sirius execs have contacted DIRECTLY by phone and indicate ALL feeback about this channel is being considered.
If I had EVERY old skool hip hop album, I COULD burn a CD and be content - additionally, I wouldn't need a Sirius subscription, moron!
With that being said, you need to get back to the phones, dear; there are disgruntled Sirius Customers DEMANDING Backspin gets back on 43! So get to work, PEON! LMMFAOOOOOO!!!!
Can't speak for Sirrus but the customer service at XM was terrible in handling the complaints.... One idiot tried to check me about my past due amount that I already paid before even trying to address my concern
Sirius has been a bit more professional from what I have heard, but it still sucks that they removed the ONLY 2 CLASSIC HIP HOP STATIONS during this takeover... I mean MERGER!
First off, why such secrecy? No announcements of any kind were made over the air to let people know what was going on. To them, everything was fine on Tuesday, but all of a sudden on Wednesday, their favorite channel was deleted or changed fundamentally. This was a breach of trust between the provider and the consumer. We are paying for this service. We deserve a voice over what it is we want to hear. More importantly, we deserve input about programming we are willing to pay for.
I agree 100%! I listened to Backspin ALL DAY AND NIGHT November 11th - everything was everything like they were going to be there tomorrow and so on. But then my #1 preset was replaced by the WEATHER channel on November 12th! I was like WTF! Yes, they should have notified us that they were considering REMOVING backspin. They would have been known better - because we would have been like HOLD UP - WAIT A MINUTE!!! And backspin would being spinning those hits from back in the day right now!
I have another Sirius issue. My reciever lost power and shorted out my car radio and the electronics chain that installed it is now out of business and I can't find ANYWHERE that will fix it. I am tempted to cancel my subscription just because of this. Heck, the only station I really listened to was BBC Radio 1 anyway.... Sigh...
I have had XM radio, in my car, forever and they have an old school channel. My hubby usually has the car, though. So, I don't know if they have changed their line-up but Snoop has a station on there and it is all old school. Believe me...I feel your pain (no old school-who wants to hear plain rap???!!!)
Rap is just not for me; but you throw me an old skool beat and I act a fool! lol I think your Old skool station (XMs Rhythm) is gone too. My brother has XN in his car and he said it was ghost! So check and let me know!
OMG! I just read your comment and had to go and check it out. They got rid of it!!!! What the heck is going on?!? What dumb teen/young adult is in charge of choosing what stations to keep? Rap used to be my thing, back in the day-now I have to go neo soul. But I'm contacting someone about old school being gone. I'm pissed!
You can contact EVERYONE you need to if you just look in my description box above on the right. I listed everyone's email and the phone number. Also, email kkelly@siriusradiodotcom - he is is the (get this) Director of Urban Programming! LMAOOOOOO!
It was on Ch 65. They did such a good job that my Radio skips from 64 (The Groove) to 66(Shade 45). So not only is The Rhyme no longer available, neither is Ch 65.
My brother has XM. I called and told him my Backspin was gone off of Sirius and he laughed at me. Later, he called and told ME his rhyme was gone and I laughed at him. Right now, though, we are both CRYING!!!!
Tell em Sis. I just sent an email to Sirius. Im pissed off too. It's an insult to tell us to listen to Hip Hop Nation as an alternative. Let's keep the faith. I neeeeeeedz my Backspin!!!
Hip Hip Nation is Modern Day RAP! Don't they know the damn difference?! What programming director could even SUGGEST Hip Hop Nation is a comparable replacement to Backspin!? Sirius needs Donald Trump on this one... "YOU'RE FUCKING FIRED!!!!" lol
No room for Classic Hip Hop, but they have a freaking station DEDICTATED to Elvis, 6 county stations, 14 pop stations, 2 "hip Hop" stations, a SINATRA station, a DAMN 40s and 50s station (GIVE ME A BREAK), more talk than Morton Downey (lol) and NO Backspin, boombox or Strobe.
I guess LL Cool J said it best, "Now I know I can't live without my (non-Sirius but INTERNET!) radio!" LMAO
wow - what a jip. I feel for you, I know there is a huge difference between old school and top 20 hip hop. Who runs their organization? Do they have no clue? thats the pits:-(
I HUGE difference indeed! But they have like 8 country stations, 6 R&B/rap stations, 14 rock stations, 6 pop stations, 1 LATINO STATION, 3 Christian stations, more talk stations than words in a dictionary and NO CLASSIC HIP HOP?!??! But I'm going to write letters and call everyday until I get a PERSONAL response, not an automated message! I feel so depressed!
I have XM and the only time I catch old school on that station is on Saturdays. The rest of the time they play what they consider to be old school but it's not.
Thank you! I'm getting Backspin back on if I have to dress up like Flava Flav carrying around a sign saying BRING BACK BACKSPIN in front of Sirius in New York when I come visit. But, can I call you if I need to get bailed out?! lmao!!!
acutally they didnt for me. its channel 46 for me in my car. its still in the 40's i think, check

We used to have one of those channels over on the XM side, called The Rhyme. Of course, that's gone too.
As is The Move (house), The System (trance), Chrome (disco), and several others.
Entire GENRES completely disappeared from both our lineups, and clearly Mel Karmazin does not have a clue.
Hip Hop Nation apparently has an old school show on every week.....yeah, so do a lot of FM stations, which are *FREE*!
I am told of a weekly disco show on 70s on 7. Guess what, FM has that too!

I neeeeeeedz my Backspin!!!
coldcrushbrother 3 years ago
Hip Hip Nation is Modern Day RAP! Don't they know the damn difference?! What programming director could even SUGGEST Hip Hop Nation is a comparable replacement to Backspin!? Sirius needs Donald Trump on this one... "YOU'RE FUCKING FIRED!!!!" lol

I feel your paint x 2
Sirius idiots took away 2 stations from me. Boombox 39 *and* Backspin 43.
No wonder their stock is in the toilet. And you know my cancellation won't be solo...

I'm STILL pissed almost a week later!

Do they have no clue? thats the pits:-(
curlmebella 3 years ago
I HUGE difference indeed! But they have like 8 country stations, 6 R&B/rap stations, 14 rock stations, 6 pop stations, 1 LATINO STATION, 3 Christian stations, more talk stations than words in a dictionary and NO CLASSIC HIP HOP?!??! But I'm going to write letters and call everyday until I get a PERSONAL response, not an automated message! I feel so depressed!

I have XM and the only time I catch old school on that station is on Saturdays. The rest of the time they play what they consider to be old school but it's not.
divagirl1970 3 years ago
Even the Rhyme on XM (which my brother had) played some good stuff now and then, BUT THAT STATIO IS GONE TOO!!
Str8isis 3 years ago
Girl, I hear you on that. I love the old school stuff to. Much luck.

Thank you! I'm getting Backspin back on if I have to dress up like Flava Flav carrying around a sign saying BRING BACK BACKSPIN in front of Sirius in New York when I come visit. But, can I call you if I need to get bailed out?! lmao!!!

They suck for not knowing the difference between old school and current hip hop. They work in radio it is their job.
