  • You are the father i never had to show me how to shave. Thanx Daddy! I just bought a Merkur 34c:))

  • Ok. I appreciate you posting this video Geo. I guess you could say I'm new to the "shaving world." I'm ashamed to say I've been using a Gillette ProGlide for the past 7 mths coming from an automatic razor lol. I saw the Merkur HD in a business bag video and after watching your tutorial, I'm pretty sold on getting one. But tell me, what is the difference between Feather and Astra blades (or any other blades LOL!)? I honestly thought that "a blade is a blade" just as long as it's sharp. Thoughts?

  • Jeez, how much water do you get all over your bathroom! Just kidding, I think this video has successfully made me want to switch to a safety razor. Thanks

  • Your videos are great. Thanks, you helped me to know how to shave.

  • Just got myself a Merkur 23C. Bout ready to do my first safety razor shave. What types of blades would you recommend for it? Thanks for all the great vids.

  • Good video, but the result is lacking. The title says MERKUR HD 34C VS FUTUR, but I got the feeling you were going to go over the difference in shave result at end. Thanks for the vid.

  • Nice, I've puled off shaves like this and my razor always does an exceptional job. Have you ever considered maybe taking on something like 2 weeks of growth?

  • I recently purchased the merkur heavy duty razor. Its excellent. I like how its German made. They truley take pride in their work.

  • I have an EJ DE89. I'm considering the Merkur 37C. As I'm sure you know, it's a slant bar and likely to be more aggressive than my EJ89. Any thoughts on this choice?

  • I heard that the Futur requires a different angle than you would normally use for other razors like the HD. Has this been your experience?

  • Hey geo, I'm sure you have gotten this before, but, I'm your opinion, which safety razor has given you the closest shave (assuming you start with a nice blade life a Feather). Another question for you: do straight deliver closer shaves than safeties. Thanks!

  • Which Merkur razor do you like the best???

    Thanks!

  • Which Merkur razor do you like the best???

    Thanks!

  • Is the 34g the same as the 34c other than the finish??

  • @Blinkerlightfluid

    Exactly the same Safety Razor:

    34C/Chrome

    34G/Gold

    Both available at Shave Nation.

Whichever finish you choose, you'll love the resulting shave!

    Happy Holidays!

    Geo.

  • Geo:

Thank you for posting your videos. After two decades shaving with commercial cartridges, I discovered shaving again with a DE razor. The difference is astounding. My razor is a 34 C HD and so far the results are great. I have been comparing different blades on my face (Merkur vs. Feather) and I've found that the Feather feels better on my face and results in less burn. I'm curious to know what blade you prefer and suggest.

Thank you for posting your tutorials and product comparison

  • @djmariointhemix

    Thanks very much Mario,

34C is a workhorse of a safety razor. Time tested and up to the task.

I prefer the Astra and Feather blades as they suit me the best so far.

  • Is the Merkur 23C the same as the Merkur #180? I believe they are the same but I'm not exactly sure. Thanks. Great videos and information. I'm a fan.

  • @instructorarmijo

    Yes,

    Thanks Mijo!

    G.

  • Just recently got into DE shaving- AOS was the gateway drug, then I ditched the Fusion and got a 23C. I will move up to a Futur once I get the technique down. Still going thru blades to determine my favorite. Biggest problem is the neck, under the jaw line- still getting some razor burn no matter how carefully I shave (no pressure, etc.).

  • @marzzz1

I like how you made it drug related....

It makes it sound all suspenseful and such.

You have a good plan in place.

    Geo.

  • Futur vs progress??

  • Hi Geo

I just purchased a Future because the Vision 2000 is back order everywhere on the internet and I was too impatient to wait :-( What is your final thoughts on both of them (a video would be nice) and will I regret my impatience ? Is it just me or does the Vision 2000 seem too offer a smother shave than the Future ?

Can not wait to receive my order (Feather non-folding) from shavenation . com :-)

Thanks for the great videos Geo

  • @ScratchMassive

    Thanks!

    Really?

We have the Vision 2000 in stock at ShaveNationdotcom....

If you like large manly, substantial razors, go with the Vision.

It's size is not for everyone, but it will provide a great shave, and comes in a nice presentation case.

The size of the Futur is more manageable and the loading mechanism is pretty trick!

Your Feather razor should be in your hands in no time....

    Geo.

  • Hey Geo,

I see you use TOBS sandalwood shaving cream quite a bit. Have you ever tried the Art of Shaving sandalwood? That's the only sandalwood I have ever used. And if so, which one do you prefer?

    Thanks

  • @sk8rolos

    Yes I have tried it.

I actually use it in one of my other videos.

I prefer the Taylor's for lathering, cushioning, and scent.

    Geo.

  • struggling to find the chrome finish futur - sold out everywhere! you have them in stock?

  • @BurnMyEyes0107

Did you check the site: ShaveNationdotcom?

    Yes,

The Futur is in stock in both the Chrome and Satin finish right now.

(don't know for how much longer though)!

    Good luck...

    Geo.

  • Hi - I am just starting to build up my collection and I was just wondering if you could give me your overall opinion - currently using an EJ DE89 and would like to get either the Merkur Futur or a Merkur 34c HD. Should I skip the HD and go straight to a Futur or go for the HD?

    Thanks

  • @dyingfly

If you already have the DE89 and want to try something new and interesting (different from the DE89) then go with the Futur.

Then you will have a non adjustable and an adjustable razor.

The DE89 and HD are quite similar shaving animals.

The Futur is in stock at ShaveNationdotcom

    Geo.

  • Ha Ha, i like to buy stuff from Us, but the cost i pretty hight and i have to pay taxes and import taxes, and taxes in the us i'm assuming (for new stuff)

  • @bAkewelle

Not sure about the regulations in your country.

    Don't know until you try....

We ship international all the time.

    G.

  • if vampires were real they would go crazy watching these vids...but on a more serious note...im on the brink of getting a DE razor but i really dont know if brand makes a helluva difference as obviously if u have the "best" brand and just dont know how to shave then its no use. ive tried the mach 3's and schicks this and all the multi-blade razors and yea my skin is smooth as hell but by the 3rd day i wanna just slash my face cuz of all the razor bumps. like im not exaggerating.

  • @Anju876

Wait...... vampires are not real? :)

Check out the Merkur HD or Edwin Jagger Line of Safety Razors.

    Geo.

  • I newer get coupons, I think that only some country's get them (ore some people), I have no seen them in Sweden allot

  • @bAkewelle

    Move to the US!

    Ahhhh, just kidding.

    G.

  • I prefer a DE razor by far.

  • @bAkewelle

    :) Agreed!

  • I don't buy replacement cartridge on a monthly basis, i have only bought 1 mach 3 turbo 5 pack and that was when it was the cheapest i could find. I only buy to test newer version handle fusion power and proglide manual, i will not buy replacement cartridge other than mach 3 if I can avoid it, and then only due to regulation due to plane travel.

  • @bAkewelle

My cousin only buys them when there are coupons available and he can use several coupons on one purchase, (AKA Stacking).

He sometimes winds up getting an entire razor or blades for free.

    That's OK I guess!

    Geo.

  • The new Gillette 3 bladed razor cuts all the beard in one go, no need to go 3 pass with a new gillette multi blade,Thought the cost is hight for replacement blades.

  • @bAkewelle

Actually the cost is RIDICULOUS for replacement multi-cartridge blades....

    Gillette/P&G Love you!

    Geo.

  • @DolceGabbanaBYMAN

    Hmmmm,

    That's a Damn good question!

I own a couple Muhles myself, so I guess I should carry them!

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll look into it as I'm always looking to add new, quality shaving items.

    Geo.

  • @wrangomonger

You should be able to get between 4 and 6 shaves from a new, quality DE blade.

    Dad and Grandpa new best!

There's no school like Old School!!!

Just go easy on the pressure with the Slant and you should be fine.

    Geo.

  • Thanks for the instructional video geofatboy. I recently took up shaving with a DE razor, got me a Merkur 23C. I really like shaving with it.

  • @beftus1264

Good razor, nothing not to like about it!

    Enjoy.

    Geo.

  • Great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • @mishima666

    Thanks Mishima!

    G.

  • I bought a Bakelite #45 Safety Razor and it worked great. I did cut myself a bunch of times but I'm sure I'll get better with it over time.

  • @zambimaru

That Bakelite razor is a real lightweight so you need to find the fine line between applying too much pressure and just enough pressure that you remove the whiskers cleanly without cutting yourself.

Should get better for you after a few uses.

    Geo.

  • I really like the futur, looks like the cadillac of saftey razors. I will have to do business with you after I get a few shaves under my belt.

  • @saltwater47

    I'll be here!

    Geo.

  • Hi, I got really sensitive skin and I'm thinking of switching to safety razor. So my question is, can you recommend me what razor to buy and stuff like shaving soap or cream and brush? I'm gonna try to buy all of them on amazon. Thanks in advance. I am using a gillette fusion and when I shave against the grain, my neck gets really red. I do the pre shaving ritual like wash with warm water, apply pre shave cream proraso (it got good review so I bought it), shaving gel. But I still get rednes

  • @llanbull

I have sensitive skin too and a Gillette fusion gave me extreme razor burn.

I changed to a Merkur Futur and use Feather blades which gives a very clean cut to the hairs. This eliminates razor burn. As for the shaving cream i suggest some Taylor of old bond street it is very mild on the skin and they also do one specially made for sensitive skin. Apply the cream with a badger brush.

After shaving i used an astringent like aftershave and an oil free moisturizer containing aloe.

  • @joerobo100

    Thanks Joe!

I couldn't have said it better myself!

    Geo.

  • @llanbull

Go to ShaveNationdotcom and check out Geo's Ultimate Shave Set .

I put it together specifically for Gents who are looking to toss their multi-bladed contraptions and make the jump to shaving with a Safety Razor!

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • very good result.. esp. on the HD side is my impression. I have an old fashioned model like the HD (..the 34C) and I like the get in two and get together mechanism. I think it's quite simple and safe to change a blade. Do you think changing the blade at the futur is as safe as this? (Because one has to click and do.. on the head of the razor so much, seemingly.)

  • @sc0186

Changing the blade on the Futur is fast and easy as well!

Pull off the top, insert the blade over the posts, snap the top back down....

    Super simple and easy.

    Pretty neat concept for sure!

    Nothing to it...

Add to that the adjustment factor which affords you the ability to dial up or down the amount of DE blade reveal so that you can increase or decrease how aggressive you'd like to be with your shave.

    Good Times! LOL!

    G.

  • @geofatboy Thanks

  • damn, i get that growth in 2 days...im a freaking monkey.

  • @MrMexicanZombie

    Heavy on the testosterone!

Try some of the Bluebeard's Revenge Shaving Cream.....

It is said to retard beard growth as one of the ingredients is decelerine....

    G.

  • Which one did better job ??

  • @ivanmacri74

The Futur offers a more aggressive shave because it is adjustable, and heavier than the HD.

Some Gents prefer the style of the HD over the Futur and some prefer the modernistic look of the Futur.

That part is a matter of personal preference.

Regarding a head to head comparison based solely on aggressive shaving performance, the Futur wins out.

    Geo.

  • Have you tried the gillette slim? What do you think is the better adjustable razor, the futor or the slim?

  • @tehfear

Its kind of like comparing apples to oranges...

Different design, blade loading feature, size, style, finish, etc...

It depends on what style suits you, shaving technique, and your visual preferences.

I'll make the decision easy, get them both and alternate shaves between the two!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Do you know where I could get the slim? I looked on amazon and it seems like they dont have it..

  • @tehfear

Last time I checked there were about 57 of them for sale on ebay.

    Geo.

  • @sammmmyrkr456

I know the Oak Tree of which you speak!

His muscles are a little bigger than mine :)

Jay, if you're reading this, JK JK !!!

I've seen his picture in a lot of fitness magazines, but I don't believe I've ever heard him speak.

    I'll check into it.

I've also been told I sound like Jim Caviezel (Passion Of The Christ) I'm not sure about that either.

    G.

  • you cheated geo! the futur has the most blade gap of pretty much all safety razors. you took the most aggressive razor available and put the sharpest blade available in it. :|

  • @emericanchaos

    LOL!

    Cheating?

    That's called a competitive edge!

Otherwise known as Stacking The Deck!

I use the Feather's a lot because of their Ninja-Like Sharpness!

    Geo.

  • im 16 and i want to start using a safety razor. i was just wondering if it would be hard for me to switch from a mach 3 by Gillette to the Merkur. I would really appreciate it if you reply.

  • @ImRubish some what. you don't really have to learn how to use a mach 3. you just lather up and then scrape the lather off. it's not that easy with a DE. buy some gear, watch some videos and give it a shot.

  • @emericanchaos Thanks ill try it :)

  • @ImRubish

    Yeah, what he said!

He's right, Pick up a safety razor, blades, badger brush, cream, watch my videos and you'll be fine.

It's certainly not rocket science, just takes a little practice and perseverance.

I trust you'll be happy with the end result!

    Check out ShaveNationdotcom.

    Geo,.

  • @geofatboy would it be ok if i use a shave oil instead of a cream?

  • @ImRubish

I've tried shave oils and haven't had much luck on my heavy beard with them.

If your beard is on the lighter side, the oil may perform well for you.

    YMMV; Your Mileage May Vary....

    Geo.

  • Do you do a three pass shave everyday? What if you're in a hurry?

  • @zerokey2003

If you're in an every day shaving routine, chances are you can get by with one or two passes.

WTG and/or XTG will most likely be enough.

Purely a matter of personal preference and it depends how sensitive your skin is.

    Geo.

  • So do u guys change the blade after every single shave or use it like a dozen times, like I do with the cartridge.

  • @hansalas

I can get between 4-6 shaves from a new feather razor blade.

    YMMV!

    Geo.

  • My badger brush keeps losing hairs and they get stuck to my face when I apply my shaving cream...could you recommend a good brush that won't have this problem and isn't too expensive? Thanks man!

  • @MrDistortedReality

    Oh Man!

    I hate when that happens!

Check out the Parker Chrome or Ebony Brushes, or any of the Edwin Jagger Brushes at ShaveNationdotcom....

That will not happen with a quality brush....

Unless it;s been abused... (212 degree boiling hot water for example) :( :(

I'll send a couple links to your inbox.

    Thanks,

    Geo.

  • as always great vids - always interesting. Must try TOBS sandalwood now. I'm a bit of a DRHarris fan but will give it a shot.

  • @narcosisboy

    It's a great cream! I haven't heard a negative comment about it...

    Geo.

  • Ty for the fast response, just one last question LOL (RAD Talking), do you have any opinions on the PILS DE Razor? Plans to do a video review on the future?

    Thanks Again

  • @wowmau1

I dont have an opinion on the PILS cause I don't own one......

    Yet....

    Someday.

And of course I' will do a review on it.

    G.

  • ... do you have any reviews on the Feather?, LOL my girlfriend refuses toacknowledge my RAD and is keen that I just have AD, pure and simple Acquisition Disorder, but these have definetly become my new favorite toys...

    Greetings

  • @wowmau1

    Yes,

I have a video where I shave with the Feather All Stainless....

You can check it out .

You've found a fun new hobby, LOL!

    RAD!!!!!!!!

    Geo.

  • After about a month and a half of shaving with my DE razors I can now successfully say I can achieve the desired results. Today I had the best shave ever and no nicks, cuts, razorburn etc... I wasn't much of a shaver before (I'm only 24) and always wanted that professional look, but it came with too much discomforts with those disposable Gillettes. I want to thank you again for the instructions and inspiration. I am looking to buy the Feather All Stainless to add to my collection...

  • @wowmau1

    Good job my friend...

You stayed with it until you achieved your desired result!

You will now be known as Mr. Professional! LOL :)....

    Glad the vids helped.

    Geo.

  • i think i will go shave now...i wonder where i can buy an hd at....thanks for the video.

  • @dnbseg

Probably no where locally, unless you live in Germany. LoL....

    Check out ShaveNationdotcom.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy GOOD Thing i got a buddy that just moved to berlin...might have him send me 1

  • @dnbseg

Sounds like you got the HOOKUP!!!!

    Nice.

    G.

  • looks like the HD did a bit better

  • @airsoftsurvivalman12

    It may have....

Keep in mind the fact that the Futur is adjustable.

If you feel the need for a more aggressive shave to tackle heavier beard growth, it provides the ability to crank it up a couple of notches!

    Geo.

  • I just did this for 4 of my skeptical friends only my beard was a 30 day growth. Thick as hell and my Merkur HD cut through it like butter. They would have to trim it first, than take their ridiculous multi-blade toys. I was surprised myself, no tugging or any discomfort. I absolutely love what this channel and Geo's online inventory has done for me lol.

  • @GuMpAkC

    Nice!!!

Turned those skeptics into believers immediately I bet!

Now you know what to buy your friends when their Birthdays roll around.

    And vice verse.

Thanks very much for the nice compliment.

    Geo.

  • i'm new in this shaving with a safety razor and i was wandering if u change the blade with each shave or u can shave with the same blade for a couple of times

  • @21iunie

I can get 4-6 shaves out of a sharp new blade.

A marked cost difference and savings over the multi-bladed cartridges.

    Geo.

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • Just got my Merkur HD today fist time ever shaving with a safety razor and besides a few small cuts it is the best shave i have ever had! I had a bit of trouble with working up a good lather. Now on to my first straight razor shave.

  • @mogget14

Might be a good idea to get a few more Safety Razor shaves under your belt before making the jump to the Straight Razor.....

Let your face become accustomed to the new shaving style and practice up on the movements..

    Good luck though!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Yeah got that fast

  • I'm new to wet shaving and it is amazing, my skin thanks you and your instructional videos. I own a Goodfella safety razor and I'm getting a Futur today as well as the HD. I now declare myself an addict and my collection is growing + 2 today !

  • @wowmau1

    Nice!

Pretty soon you'll need to expand the bathroom to make room for all of your shaving supplies!

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • haha Dude I use the same cream!! Its excellent although I do need a different safety razor, the 1 I got just doesn't cut the mustard.. or my beard beard for that matter and was looking for reviews on both these razors but u killed to birds with 1 stone in this video.. Which 1 would you recommend for tough/ curse hair and sensitive skin? I usually get 2 passes and have to stop before it starts to irritate. Ow and the cleft chin.. got the same problem there lol

  • @THISFUCKENSUXS

Between the two, I'd go with the Futur, because it has the added adjustment feature that allows you to dial in for the particular type of shave you want. More aggressive or less, depending upon your beard growth that day.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy cheers mate

  • Awesome video. An adjustable DE razor! and a nice collection of straights in the back. My dad reckons I'm not allowed to have even one let alone a collection!

  • @drphobias1

    Thanks!

    Well, Sometimes Father Knows Best!

    G.

  • @ Geo

I recently purchased a Merkur HD for my first safety razor. Do you feel this was a good razor to start with? Discuss...

  • @Tillerman7

    Yes!

The Merkur HD is a great razor to learn on and.

It works very well for rookies and seasoned veterans!

The EJ DE89 will do the same for you.

Both work horses in the wet shaving industry!

    Both great razors.

    Geo.

  • Great job, super fast shave. I'm trying to decide between a Progress and a Futur, this video was a great help.

  • @monkeyassj

So, which one did you wind up going for?

    G.

  • Good day gents!

I was wondering if any of you experienced problems with the Futur? My first one had uneven blade gaps (one bigger one smaller), and my replacement now has somewhat even gaps, but one side is a lot more agressive than the other! I know this isn't supposed to be like that but even the replacement. Anybody out there? Geofatboy do you by chance have a minute to check your razor?

    Would help a bunch thanks!

    Take care!

  • @stratocasterxl

I have shaved with my Futur the past two days in a row with a couple of passes on the 4 setting, then a final pass on the 2 setting ATG...

    The results were BSS.

    Didn't notice any problems whatsoever.

If it was a recent purchase, I'd try to return it to wherever you purchased it.

Hopefully it will be a warranty issue.

Hmmm, maybe Merkur is getting a little lax on the quality control as a result of trying to keep up with increased demand for their razors....

    jmho..

    G.

  • @geofatboy

thanks for the swift reply. I already got in touch with the store i bought it from and they need to follow complaint procedure first as this would be my second replacement. Annoyances...My buddies Futur is spot on, perfectly parallel, evenly spaced and same agressiveness on both sides. Perhaps it's because I have super sensitive skin that I can feel the slightest difference in blade angle. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for all the awesome videos btw! You and mantic59 taught me well!

  • @stratocasterxl

    My pleasure Brother!

I'm glad to see your right on top of things and getting it sorted out quickly!

    Best,

    Geo.

  • Do you find that you need to use a

different angel with the Futur versus other razors like the DE89 or HD? The head just looks like it would need a way different angle.

  • @shavefan12

    True-that!

The Futur is not your typical razor as the cutting head/blade compartment is different from most other safety razors that are TTO, two-piece, or three piece, for that matter.

It is a different design and requires a little getting used to as far as angle used.

It is bulkier and a bit more tricky to navigate under the nose and across the chin areas.

Gotta love its heaviness, the snap-on blade keeper, and, adjustable!

A great addition to any Safety Razor Collection!

    Nice!

    G

  • What blades are you using in those two razors? The blade is probably more important than the razor, despite what some viewers think

  • @Bowser28

At approximately 1:40 in the video, as I'm loading the blade, I mention that it is a Feather Blade.

The same blade that is in the HD as well to make for a fair comparison.

The blade, razor, brush, cream, and face prep, are all important factors in a great shave!

    Cheers!,

    Geo.

  • Nice. Have you by some chance tried the merkur 23c?

  • @tehfear

I have the 23c but haven't used it yet.

    G.

  • @geofatboy I just got mine a fews days ago and it's fantastic razor. Delvers a close shave with very little effort.

  • @tehfear

    Ahhh, True That!

You can't go wrong with either one of these!

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • Nice video the blades must be super sharp compared to those shit gillette vibrating bags of rubbish geo would you say safety razors are a more cost effective way than disposable false economy gillette ones ?

  • @wetend123

    Absolutely!

You can buy one Safety Razor and the DE (double edge) blades are very reasonably priced in comparison to the multi-blade cartridge varieties now available.

    But,

After you switch to Safety Razor shaving, you will probably want more than one razor!

That's where the dilemma comes in... LOL!!!

It's called RAD, Razor Acquisition Disorder!

    Good luck, it's catchy...

    Cheers mate,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Thanks for the advice think im going to have to try one out the old ways are the best. cheers :D

  • @wetend123

    Thank You!

Feel free to ask if you have any questions along the way!

    Geo.

  • Even though iv;e never watched your video, I would say we have almost identical shaving technique. good video, I have the Merkur 34c HD.

  • @merthyrmafia

    Ahhhh!

    Great minds think alike!

We do it because it works!

    Nice!

    Geo.

  • Geo, great set of vids you have going on, thanks. just a quick Q- will standard male moisturiser be ok or do the aftershave specific products give better results? I already use moisturiser as I suffer from slightly dry skin on my face at this time of year.

  • @mattj79

Thanks for the props on the videos!

My friend, in this ghastly weather, any moisturizer, sealer, balm, etc. that you can get on you face will be beneficial!

They all work better than using nothing,

I have tried a lot of products, the ones featured on my website I have personally used and recommend! I've had and continue to get great results from Proraso and Trumpers!

    Take care,

  • I'm sorry but after seeing this I went on Amazon and bought a Merkur HD set with Feather blades because that is the closest shave I've ever seen and I'm friggin tired of Bic's, Gillette's line of nonsense and bullshit creams. I'm converting TODAY! Never again will I ever shave with a plastic razor, or a razor that vibrates lol.

  • @GuMpAkC

Don't be sorry, You made a good choice in your first Safety Razor.

Let me know how it works out for you!

Trust me, it will only get better from here!

And all is not lost, you can give your old vibrating gizmo to your nearest and dearest lady friend!

    Welcome to Shave Nation!!!

    Cheers!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Well after a week I REALLY enjoy it. It's something new and different and I take my time. I have to find some kind of moisturizer of sort though because my skin is drying out big time. Any suggestions? As far as the shave goes...best ever.

  • @GuMpAkC

    Best Ever Shave: Excellent!

I love any of the Trumper's Skin Foods and the Proraso alcohol Free After Shave Balm.

There's also Nivea for Men a well!

Apply when your face is still a tad damp, post shave and lock in that moisture.

  • its funny gilletes newest product the proglide is supposed to reduce tug n pull of course when compared to a safety razor and a good lather not from a can there is absolutely no pulling at all i guess thats what happens when they start downgrading and add 5 blades its all to line their pockets thats why a 8 pck refill is 30$ its realy sad if you think about it

  • @kantelier

That pulling and tugging that you mentioned results in razor burn and ingrown hairs for a lot of Gents...

The cost is also an intimidating factor in multi blade use.

Many men, (and ladies as well) are becoming disgusted with the high cost of multi blade cartridges.

If they make the jump to a safety razor , they are pleasantly surprised and satisfied with the shaving method.

And "voila" no more nasty ingrown hairs, a sweet added benefit!

    Be well,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy ? local supermarkets sell generic blades have you tried and if so how are they

  • @kantelier

Really, in my area, the local stores carry 1) brand of Safety DE Razor blades... That's it.

I have tied them and they are just so-so....

    Nothing to write home about....

  • Hi, I was given Merkur Futur by my girlfriend at christmas. I am not shaving every day, on the contrary - I let my beard grow about 14 days or 3 weeks. It is very uncomfortable to shave 3 weeks grown beard with plastic modern multi-blade razor - and it goes dull quickly, so I had to use hair-cutter before shaving. I am using Merkur blades now and I think, that quality of shaving is very good - without using hair cutter. And the blade is still sharp. I like Futur very much. :)

  • @LevFunebrak

I don't know your girlfriend, but, she's alright in my book.

Shaving 2-3 weeks worth of "beardage" can be a chore for any razor.

In the past when I have decided to shave off beards like that, I would perform a buzz-through with a corded or cordless trimmer to reduce the growth to a number one...

Then, leave rock it like that, or finish it off with a straight or safety razor...

Try a Feather or Astra blade, they are also of superior sharpness!

    Best regards,

    Geo.

  • great video :)

which do you prefer the merkur hd or the merkur futur?

  • @Lostsolider

They are two different animals and it's really comparing apples to oranges.

The HD is non-adjustable with a standard style blade compartment holder.

The Futur is an adjustable razor with a different type of blade compartment holder, the holder snaps on and off. It is also larger and, in my opinion more difficult to navigate under the nose and across the chin area.

For a beginner, I would recommend the HD... After a while, if you want to change it up, try the Futur.

    Good luck,

    Geo

  • what is the differences between the razors like feather and derby

  • @TheRhysieboy

Like anything else, there are different makers of safety razor or DE blades.

One blade may work well for you, yet be terrible for me...

It's a good idea to try out a blade sampler pack of different brands of blades so you can test out different blades and see which one performs best for you!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Thanks Man! You just convinced me to go for the Futur. For the first time I used a shave soap (Proraso sensitive skin) last night and it really is so much better than the canned junk. Decided today to up it to a good blade and the Futur I think it will be. The Norelco just bought is going back! Thanks for the videos!!!

  • @184080

Nice, The quality shave soap makes all the difference in the world!

Prep is more than 1/2 the battle in wet shaving..

Let me know how the Futur works out for you...

What's a Norelco btw??? Haha Just Kidding!

    Good luck with it!

    Geo.

  • amazing!!!

That's a nice Christmas present to yourself!!

I'm glad you are improving on your shaves as a result!

You will be much happier with the Safety Razor and the ingrown hairs will most likely disappear in about a week!

Check out shavenation , c o m for your shaving needs!

    Best Regards.

    Geo.

  • who in the hell told you that a safety razor couldnt do that? It must be somebody who hasnt the slightest clue to what they are talking about. My goodness, these things used properly are no comparison to anything gillette makes these days. Ive been doing this for a while as well, and really enjoy your videos, i still learn stuff, and I enjoy that! Keep 'em coming please. ps, loving my new Mergress!

  • @jsj297

    Ahhh!

You know what they say, "don't believe everything you hear and 1/2 of what you read" or is it vice versa?...

True that, someone actually uttered those words. Blasphemy, right?

Thanks for the props on the vids, and take care of that Mergress!

We are never too old to learn...

    Best,

    Geo.

  • Thanks for the response Geo. Actually it started out smith's haven - and quickly became Smith Shaven since that's about what I watch mostly. thanks for the advice. You D' Man!

  • @smithshaven

    Thanks Bro!

    I like it!

    No, You da man!!! lol!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Geo, nice video like always. You've probably said it before, but how does the FUTUR rate among all those in your collection? Is it a good DE starter razor?

Thanks and keep-up the great work. Nobody does this shaving advice stuff like you do.

  • @smithshaven

    Thanks Smith!

Yes, a very nice razor, and as you can see, the blade loads differently than any other razor out there.

It very simply just snaps in and you're ready to rock!

Being that it is an adjustable razor, and on the aggressive side of things, a beginner would just need to exercise a little caution and start with a low setting at first.

It's a bit thicker and larger, a tad more difficult to maneuver under nose and around lips, etc.

Is it Smith's Haven or Smith Shaven? lol.

    Geo

  • Hey, I like your videos, I just bought a straight razor and tried it out for the first time tonight, i got about 4 nicks that burned pretty bad but I'm gonna keep trying until I get it down well. These demos and stuff are cool though, I've never even seen those kind of razors you have there before. Nice collection in the background by the way. Take care man!

  • @frogstomp91 Thanks frogstomp! 4 nicks? That's it? HaHa! You're off to a good start. Keep in mind, it takes a while before your muscle memory kicks in and then the movements will become second nature to you. Your face also needs to become accustomed to this new method of shaving. Use a light touch and glide slowly along... You'll have it down in no time. Watch my vids on Best Face Prep and Lather and apply those techniques, you'll be good to go! Now you'll look forward to shaving! Best, Geo.
