Step 2: Abolish the Dept. of Education... a bureaucratic waste...
Step 3: Like Ron Paul says, "End all foreign aid and spend the money here at home." That militarism money (Not defense) I would happily like to see go to education, infrastructure, and Social Security.
I am a Ron Paul supporter. The big root of the problem is the State's should be taking care of the teachers but are broke! Then all 50 states turn to Fed. Gov. and cause it to go broke..
The #1 reason that teachers should be paid more is because we recognize the importance of a professional teacher in a child's educational experiences. Secondly, being a professional teacher means obtaining 1 or more Master's degrees and a life of continuing education. Unfortunately, the salary makes it difficult for a teacher to be able to afford to pay their student loans, the skyrocketing rents, daily living expenses and also be responsible for purchasing classroom materials.
@q1q1q127 Odonnell isn't saying that teachers don't have an impact on student progress, he is saying that there are far too many strongly related factors for anyone to apply a blanket statement of blame or to be fair- a claim that any one teacher is the reason for a student's success. It's just not that simple to determine without looking at the other factors.
@mbyrdsong ot be fair O'Donnell is no stranger himself to applying blanket descriptions/motivations or straw-manning the positions of those he disagrees with, as he did in this very clip. He's (almost) as bad as that idiot Naomi Klein
O'Donnell is saying that teachers need more resources because he's a dumbass who sucks at chemistry, teachers only slightly impact student performance, Republicans are mean, cops can make mistakes, and Matt Day-mon.
Okay.. if teachers don't impact student performance, why give them more money? American spends more per student than any industrialized nation and its students consistent scores in the basement. Incentives matter, which is why we need to BREAK UP THE NEA.
His diversion into critiquing the Police is just idiotic.

q1q1q127 - You are ignorant.
American does NOT spend more per student than any other industrialized nation. You just made that up to sound good.
Here it is:
Denmark, Cyprus, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, New Zealand, Belgium, Malta,Austria, France, Netherlands, Ireland,Israel, USA, Switzerland, UK, Slovenia.
That's the truth, and the facts.
Your post proves O'Donnell is right, as well as Matt Damon.

Outstanding and gutsy.
This is the kind of truth-to-nonsense discussion that we need more of, in America today.
Go, Lawrence!
BTW, I'm neither a teacher nor a parent, but I realize that being a parent is the world's most important job and being a teacher a close second.
