@hut98 In the UK, the people who carry firearms are known as AFOs (authorised firearms officers), and they man what are known as ARVs (armed response vehicles). The regular police are not armed, but these heavily armed and heavily trained AFO's in the ARVs are ALWAYS driving around towns and cities ready to respond in minutes to an armed incident.

In London (more threats), the AFOs are known as CO19! They are more specialised and they dress similar to US style SWAT officers. AFO's do not.
