When I do this exercise do I focus on the words I'm saying out loud or do I completely focus on having my mind blank while reading the words? does it matter on the volume your reading the words aloud? I don't completely understand how to do this task. I'm just starting off with this mental training and motivated to succeed in it. I will dedicate myself 2 times daily 30 minutes for it. Do you recommend starting off with this exercise? or is there any easier one that you recommend beginning with?
@jyeager1014 - Yes, it's a great technique if you want to improve your effortful ability to hold your attention to a task (endurance of attention). Don't worry about trying to keep your mind clear of distraction. Just focus on reading the words aloud (at whatever volume is comfortable for you) CLEARLY and DISTINCTLY. Don't jump ahead, control your eye motion (it's a strong eye control exercise - very good for improving impulse control). Don't forget the free course at the website.
wen I start thinkin of the words I'm saying aloud is that when I stop and drought down the time?Is major thought or distraction or when you really get off track when you stop the time? Do you stop when you think you don't have your complete focus at hand? can I do this exercise for 30 minutes than mix it with another 1 of your training video exercise for 30 min having two different exercise doing them each 30 min a day for 30 days? and sorry for all the ques i just wnt to do it completely right
@jyeager1014 - Don't stop unless your mind drifts away from the task. If you have inner dialogue that is "reading along with you", that's okay because you're still concentrating on the words themselves. Highly likely that the inner voice will die down as your attention more easily narrows in on each word and you begin to intuitively recognize each one 'silently'. If you forget what you're supposed to be doing, stop then, also, when you realize it. Mix it up as you wish, but ENJOY yourself.
@jyeager1014 - Also, make sure to email me at the studio to keep me up to date on your progress. 30 days of pressing yourself past distraction is going to make a major dent in your ability to control your attention onto a task. It starts out with effortful flexing of mind, but it gets easier and easier. Remember to take breaks to refresh yourself. Also, eat energy-helpful foods (fruits, veggies), brain foods (fish, etc.) and drink plenty of water.
@DynamicMentalFitness Thank you very much for all the tips and help, it means soooo much! I will be sure to keep in touch with you and let you know how I'm doing

Super-- there is an absolute difference between the two. Although well-trained Mental Concentration greatly improves both Working and Long-Term Memory, the difference between memory and Concentration is like the difference between receiving a postcard picture of Paris in the mail and actually living there as its Mayor. That's how big the difference is. Accounting for the fact that there are many aspects and factors that constitute Mental Concentration, you'll want to thoroughly...
...educate yourself on them (including the Servant/Master relationship between Attention and Concentration) so that you can more quickly become very proficient at it. When you are well-skilled at Mental Concentration, you'll be able to get maximum potential, practicality, and even profit from all the stuff we spend so much time committing to memory. As an example, the student who memorizes well gets decent grades, and ends up working as an employee for the student who learns to CONCENTRATE.
Is there a reason for reading aloud as opposed to reading silently? I occasionally read out loud because I've read an article a while back stating that reading aloud involves more of your brain. Any validity to this. Thanks for you work.
Yes, there is Scientific evidence using brain imaging technology demonstrating that reading aloud is a more novel, challenging task for your brain than reading silently; interestingly, doing successive, rapid, though simplistic mental calculations using your visual working memory is similarly more of a brain-boosting exercise than doing complex mathematical calculations on paper. Reading aloud in a steady cadence and purposeful volume uses more of your brain's resources than reading silently.
"Hey, that mental image that just popped into my head almost - ALMOST - completely stole my attention and nearly made me forget what I'm doing here. No big deal. Wow, was that a useless thought of the future/past trying to get me to give it my attention? No thanks. Daydreaming is of no interest to me, so I'll continue now by continuing to watch the target while noticing and controlling my breathing and then allowing my attention to settle down onto the task at hand...."::::quiet:::::"
Daydreaming is typical of most human beings. Recent Scientific studies show that most people daydream at least 40% of their day even when tasked with concentration-intensive tasks. Daydreaming is the minds wandering into thoughts of the future or past or simply into fantasy. It is a habit that can be reduced or broken through dedicated practice towards a sincere objective of waking up from "HABITUAL MENTAL SLUMBER" . Go to the Dynamic Mental Fitness website for the free ebook.
"Hmmmm. I can feel thought trying to start up; mental chatter attempting to convince me that I should be talking to myself. No thanks. Self-talk is of no interest to me, so I'll continue now by continuing to watch the target while noticing and controlling my breathing and then allowing my attention to settle down onto the task at hand...."::::quiet:::::"
Keep in mind folks that your faculty of Mental Concentration acts similarly to a muscle. When you work it intentionally past current limits (even slightly past) of endurance and control, you EXPAND your ability. If you can control your attention for two minutes, shoot for THREE; then FIVE, etc. The outcome is not singular, but MULTIFACETED in its reward for your life. For example, when you can control your attention when talking to others, you simultaneously begin reading people better.
True-- Attention training directly strengthens your cognitive working memory. A 2005 report in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry says that parents of children diagnosed with ADHD who had those kids undergo working memory training reported a reduction in their children's hyperactivity and inattention three months after the intervention, while parents of another group of ADHD children who received no working memory training reported no improvements. More...
Most forms of attention-expanding brain training (DIRECT training - wherein you actually use YOUR OWN BRAIN FUNCTIONS as training tools) require the trainee to use their attention, memory, and imagination in unique and novel ways that bring about a strengthening of the very brain cells connected to the use of attention, memory, and imagination - in other words, you get increasingly better at directing those functions: SELF CONTROL! Meaning Increased calm, better concentration, improved focus.
Talika - when it comes to brain fitness and mental power, the skills you acquire will affect your entire life and EVERYTHING you do, just as NOT training your mind affects your entire life and everything you do. That being the case - if I were you - I'd learn all I can in order toimprove my mental concentration, mental focus, and overall cognitive health. If you are the kind of person who wants to be more than you are now, then there is nothing more important.
Mateor - For a simple Attention-Span-Building technique involving word-by-word, paced reading (for example, setting up a metronome and reading each word to the pace of the metronome, starting from the last word in the book and reading forward), you'll need eyes open. When doing a visual working memory technique involving imagination, try going eyes-closed if you're in a safe place. The principle is this: ATTENTION CONTROLLED AND HELD IN PLACE EQUALS ATTENTION SPAN IMPROVED!
Milo, I can appreciate that - used to have the same level of cognitive control myself before I started making mental fitness and brain training into a dedicated lifestyle. My entire life has transformed as a result of getting past those weaker barriers of 30, 45, 60 seconds, eventually making it into the 7 & 8 MINUTE range; now, I'm way beyond that. Still, it takes time, and it takes commitment, and it takes a willingness to do the work. Imagine what your life - what YOU - could be like!
I must admit to being a little surprised that this video hasn't gotten as much attention as some of my other training videos. This one is EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE and informational. Anybody who follows the advice in this vid WILL IMPROVE THEIR ATTENTION SPAN. Just DO THE RECOMMENDED TECHNIQUE as suggested. -T. Lavon Lawrence

Is there a difference between concentration and memorization?
superpiolo222 2 years ago

Thanks for you work.
wasabi114 2 years ago

No thanks. Daydreaming is of no interest to me, so I'll continue now by continuing to watch the target while noticing and controlling my breathing and then allowing my attention to settle down onto the task at hand...."::::quiet:::::"

is frequently see day dream. Are there any ways to get rid of it?? Please write to me
matrikabhandari55 2 years ago
Daydreaming is typical of most human beings. Recent Scientific studies show that most people daydream at least 40% of their day even when tasked with concentration-intensive tasks. Daydreaming is the minds wandering into thoughts of the future or past or simply into fantasy. It is a habit that can be reduced or broken through dedicated practice towards a sincere objective of waking up from "HABITUAL MENTAL SLUMBER" .

For example, when you can control your attention when talking to others, you simultaneously begin reading people better.

what if someone had adhd?
truestyleoutlaw 2 years ago
True-- Attention training directly strengthens your cognitive working memory. A 2005 report in the Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry says that parents of children diagnosed with ADHD who had those kids undergo working memory training reported a reduction in their children's hyperactivity and inattention three months after the intervention, while parents of another group of ADHD children who received no working memory training reported no improvements.

DO I have to watch and use other video tipps or is 1 enough?
TalikaCorp 2 years ago
Talika - when it comes to brain fitness and mental power, the skills you acquire will affect your entire life and EVERYTHING you do, just as NOT training your mind affects your entire life and everything you do. That being the case - if I were you - I'd learn all I can in order toimprove my mental concentration, mental focus, and overall cognitive health. If you are the kind of person who wants to be more than you are now, then there is nothing more important.

Are you supposed to close your eyes when you do these exercises? I LOVE THIS STUFF BTW.
mateor09 2 years ago
Mateor - For a simple Attention-Span-Building technique involving word-by-word, paced reading (for example, setting up a metronome and reading each word to the pace of the metronome, starting from the last word in the book and reading forward), you'll need eyes open. When doing a visual working memory technique involving imagination, try going eyes-closed if you're in a safe place. The principle is this: ATTENTION CONTROLLED AND HELD IN PLACE EQUALS ATTENTION SPAN IMPROVED!

30 minutes!!!
are you freakin serious!?
I would be astounded if i could do 30 seconds!
milosrastovac 2 years ago

It is effective. I just did half a page of the news paper.
It's a quickest way to concentrate, because the brain is so baffled trying to make sense, it actually pauses :-) no time to wander.
Thank you.
