it's a SATA 6Gb/s+6x SATA 3Gb/s. Is that one of very few motherboard iwth a SATA 6Gb/s?? the ASUS Maximus GENE III has only SATA 3Gb/s (does that mean that if I buy the Western Digital Caviar Black 1T, which supports 6Gb/s, so it will only work up to 3?)
Been using the P55-UD4 (not P) for about 10 months, been stable and no hassle so far. Hopefully it will be more reliable than my previous boards from Asus that kept going belly up on me every two years or so. I plan to keep this i7 rig a while.
The eSATA ports on the back of the board are not eSATA/USB. I have that board and they do not fit a standard USB connector. Great board though, just stay away from the "Energy Saver" app that comes on the CD, all it does is cause problems.
@WeThrowPie NO SHIT SHERLOCK! If you watched the video you may come to realize that he says, they are USB/eSATA ports, and I clearly stated that they are not, as I own this particular board! You really should read my comment, and watch the video before replying, you lousy good for nothing troll!
@tmeng87: It does support crossfire ; as almost any Gigabyte gaming-enabled mobo has.
@mnmosh2008: After buying more than a dozen years of pc-components; I do suggest Intel and Gigabyte mainboards over Asus. They used to be great but they did drop the ball. Their servers are even better in quality.
Same goes to HDD's; WD & IBM has given me the best results with the least returns for RMA. Other brand drives sold for cheap over the counter, could be searching for troubles in the long run.
@Jorgie0101 no, dual cores are both 775 and for 1156 theres i3's and some of the i5's are dual core. have no idea what stupid idiots would "thumbs up" your comment, lol.
Welcome. What processor and purpose you wish to go for like? Developer? Gaming? Audio/Video encode? General PC usage and movie watching? Well, OC thing actually depends on what you wish to do with your PC. Assuming you wanna buy i5-750, probably this Tom's article should give you the best snapshot of OCing with that processor:
Overclocked On Air: Intel's Core i5-750
1600 MHz is worth. If you don't OC, add cards etc then UD3P (with TPM) or UD3R (no TPM). I recommend UD3P. Don't buy any uATX!!
well my origional specs i was planning on for gaming and a bit of video editing was i5 with p55-ud3 gskill 4gb 1333 hd5850 and a vantec ion2+ 600 psu(which im not sure about) all in a lian li k62. BUT then i thought that i might try overclocking cos of all the good reviews with i5 etc...
*IF* you use lots of Video/Audio encoding and tons of Gaming stuff then I would strongly recommend you core i7-860 processor.
*IF* you use the above not so aggressively then core i5-750 is the best quad core processor out there.
Remember that 860 is HT but 750 isn't - if you comprehend what HT does to you...else let me know....am gonna give you another HT performance link lol :)
yeah thats why im going with i5, i dont really need hyperthreading that much, and compared to the amd equivillent, its a bit faster in cpu intensive tasks so yeah. i think a single card i5 will last me a few years, even with 6 core cpus out i dont think that most games will be that cpu intensive.
i have absolutly no intention of 'future proofing' either. so i realy have no reasion to go with 1336.
I seen a good deal on this board and a I5. After researching it a little bit, i read that the socket on this board melts if you do some extreme overclocking. These guys were running it far past 4ghz and going past 5ghz, So it's probably not a big deal for normal people. Still i wonder if it's just a cheap socket or is it that I5 gets extremely hot on the contact side.
It's the best deal for the i5. Foxconn sockets are under the scanner due to the high over clocking (4 GHz plus for longer periods). Actually, Turbo Boost is good enough for this i5 machine (3.2 GHz officially supported by Intel).
But, Gigabyte A series coming the Lotes socket. So, I have chosen this MOBO by dumping others like Asus etc.
Search this on tube: "GIGABYTE P55A mobos - SATA3, USB3 and 3x USB power "
MSI GD65 is a good board. Note that if you are NOT an over clocker then you could buy ANY socket Mobo. Problems with Foxconn sockets are reported by consistent Over clockers, say with above 4GHz. I would strongly recommend any Mobo if you are using upto permissible Intel Turbo Boost frequencies (2.6GHz to 3.2 GHz max for i5-750).
well i hope to overclock but am wondering if it is realy worth it. unless of course ocing to 4ghz. but to do that i will probably have to spend more on a motherboard that i trust and more expensive ram and a cooler etc... so it wont realy be 'free' performance.
thanks for the info, i definitely like the reviews, and the oc genie button is cool even though i might not be using it. should 1600mhz ram be another thing to look for? if overcolcking as opposed to 1333mhz
BTW, I brought those different makes to test. I kept Corsair and pushed G.Skill to my nephew lol. He too now wants to build a high end gaming machine with i7-860 and Gigabyte/Asus/MSI board by 2nd week of Jan2010 (he yet to choose a Mobo, he can't spend a lot unlike me). I recommended him your MSI board if he's looking for best value for price but Gigabyte P55A board is best for all high end *single* card users and that's how it's gonna be future proof with USB/SATA 3.0.
once again thankyou for the links :)! (google searches)
i wont be making use of crossfire or sli, and i dont think i will realy use sata 3 or usb3.0 fir a while to come.
so the decision for me is realy all about the extra features, and performance. i may just go with a p55-ud3 if im not going to oc, but i think i would prefer the gd65 over if i am cos im paranoid about socket burn. so i have to decide on weather or not to overclock. im gonna check out some oc benchmarks now :)
nah there was a problem with the brackets, which hold down the psu, and when pumping volts there was bad connection with the socket i think. but the issue is suposedly fixed in the p55a boards. but i think this only applies to people who use liquid nitrogen and stuff to oc.
You won't find any noticeable difference when it comes to gaming, it will mostly be down to the GPU you use as most games will rely on the graphics card. The difference though is in price, AMD offers best Chip/Mobo price than intel. In other words you can save some money with AMD and spend it towards a good GPU.
i5 for sure. if you don't overclock it will be way better, and if you do, just get a aftermarket heat sink and you'll probably be able to get it pretty high (i'd guess ~3.6 at least)

Say what you want but the P55 fucking sucks. It's basically an LGA 775 with the ability to hold 16gb of ram instead of 8. Plus 8x sli or crossfire? Seriously 8x? Regardless of how high you overclock your cards, they won't even be able to compete with stock cards with the full 16x bandwidth. If people really want cheap and good performance, go with AMD's AM3.
AMD bite ass, and P55 doesnt suck, it is just a mild step down from LGA 1366. The chips OC higher but all you get is 8 less lower PCI-e lanes. Do ur homework brudda
I have this board and love it. Have my i5 750 running at 4ghz on air 24hr prime stable (small fft's). Using a prolimatech mega shadow with push/pull fan setup. Awesome board for the price and overclocking features.
I wonder how many boards this nut has fried and claimed were "DOA"? The way he handles the board, he is just begging for static damage. When he almost pulled it out by the Gigabyte heat sink in the middle, I cringed! Dude, handle it by the edges, and don't touch the components!
I don't understand the point to release the core i5 or i3. They should have just created low end core i7s like they have. The core i5 is more money for hardly much more performance then the Core2Quads produce. If you were to build a core i5 and a Core 2 Quad build with similiar specs your talking about the same price and performance. Its a waste of money for Intel.
Not exactly true. The P55 motherboards have a lot more features then the previous motherboards, like the 6.0GBs SATA connectors on the ASUS for example. Also the memory controller is built in to the chip now. And also the core i5 is less than alot of core 2 quads... its 209 on newegg and the Q9550 is like 215
Linus Torvalds is going to kick this linus noob in the face!! GNU/Linux 4 Ever!!! or until to many douche bags who barely have the mental capacity to download a cd image and change boot order start fucking shit up!!! (Note: Linux was meant to be a tool for the technically inclined (Originally just for Linus) and not for mom, dad, brother, sister, and so on... this is why Micro$oft and AppleSauce have such hard times... leave Linux to the scientist and the rest for the point and click morons!!!
I don't know much about this stuff but i heard that when you add another graphics card you don't get 100% performance boost if so then why run 2 cards in x8 if you can run 1 in x16, spend less money and less of your power supply, plz explain.
Basically 8x or 16x is how much data CAN be written to and read from the graphics card. No modern card actually requires 16x bandwidth, so 8x is fine to get the most out of your video card(s)
Do this support i7 core ?and why it wrote there i5 on the gigabyte motherboard name?
? ? ? ? ?

Dude, handle it by the edges, and don't touch the components!

question! what's the usefulness of having two Ethernet ports?
iLLustriousTS 2 years ago
Mobo for years have had 2 (well mid/high end).
You can use 1 for Internet and the other for an external HDD or such.
You can also TEAM both together to give you 2000Mbit LAN use.

mirko86thebest 2 years ago
I hope they standardize the USB/eSATA I/O on all mobos.

Asus does not have SATA 600.
They had revise Mobo at last minute due to the Faults found in the SATA 600 Controller from Promise.

I don't understand the point to release the core i5 or i3. They should have just created low end core i7s like they have. The core i5 is more money for hardly much more performance then the Core2Quads produce. If you were to build a core i5 and a Core 2 Quad build with similiar specs your talking about the same price and performance. Its a waste of money for Intel.
alien4085 2 years ago
Not exactly true. The P55 motherboards have a lot more features then the previous motherboards, like the 6.0GBs SATA connectors on the ASUS for example. Also the memory controller is built in to the chip now. And also the core i5 is less than alot of core 2 quads... its 209 on newegg and the Q9550 is like 215

What's with the point of LGA1156 if the boards are just expensive as their LGA1336 counterparts, even though X58 is superior to P55 in every way.
Ratemgoal 2 years ago
They will not be the same price. The P55 chipset is quite a bit less expensive to buy/license for motherboard manufacturers.

at my local retailer this motherboard costs $167 CAN

Linus Torvalds is going to kick this linus noob in the face!! GNU/Linux 4 Ever!!! or until to many douche bags who barely have the mental capacity to download a cd image and change boot order start fucking shit up!!! (Note: Linux was meant to be a tool for the technically inclined (Originally just for Linus) and not for mom, dad, brother, sister, and so on... this is why Micro$oft and AppleSauce have such hard times... leave Linux to the scientist and the rest for the point and click morons!!!

I don't know much about this stuff but i heard that when you add another graphics card you don't get 100% performance boost if so then why run 2 cards in x8 if you can run 1 in x16, spend less money and less of your power supply, plz explain.
alex14469 2 years ago
Basically 8x or 16x is how much data CAN be written to and read from the graphics card. No modern card actually requires 16x bandwidth, so 8x is fine to get the most out of your video card(s)
