  • I have a fisrt gen mr2 with lsd a jap engine upgraded ignition msd ported head and 12 :1 pistons putting about 150hp and st sway bars on full dampers and believe me nothibg handles better than that i put bmw's benz and my g60 corrado to shame good job mr2 guy nice driving and evo drivers stop hating its not about hp in a canyon race its all about perfect balance and good driving

  • The guy in the Evo either doesn't know this canyon since its really hard to drive in the dark (even if you have ur High Beam on) in the canyons, or he just doesn't know how to drive in the canyon period. If the Evo really have 400awhp, and the MR2 only has 98rwhp. The evo still have the biggest advantage since it's an uphil. So, I give props to the MR2 driver for driving pretty well, and keeping up with an 400AWHP Evo.

  • Excellent driving from the both of you! I guess the Evo can't put down all that 400Whp to the ground during mid corner. It's just a guess :D. I notice that during corner exits, you throttle earlier than the evo does :).

  • An evo certainly can put all 400whp to the ground mid corner, it just happens to be driven by one of the world's worst evo drivers who can't brake, take corners or pretty much do anything apart from accelerate in a straight line. AWD with an LSD is an amazing thing provided you have the ability/balls to use it.

  • it was actually a 5SFE NA motor. any turbo sounds were coming from the other car.

  • Other than the evo clearly showing inexperience I love the giant fire balls emitting from its ass. I love the corners, they are unbiased and show who really has tallent in a race.

  • WHEEL hp. 5sfe made 130Bhp according to toyota. add 100,000+ miles among many other factors and you have 98 wheel horsepower.

  • What are you talking about? The MR2 beat the Evo in this video to no end. The evo driver was driving absolutely terrible, taking terrible lines, the fact that the 98whp mr2 stayed with the 400awhp evo is a win itself.

  • I agree the Evo driver was not very good but if you watch objectively, the brakes & tires were not upto the task of pulling up the weight of the Evo from that speed off the straights or holding on round the corners. The MR2 driver is obviously more experienced in this car & did not make enough power or straight line speed to unsettle the car where it mattered. 10 extra points to the n/a $5k (nzd) Toyota for showing a $40k (nzd) Evo how to walk the line :P

  • Look I like Evos and LOVE MR2's. The fact is that the driver of the Evo was running like a bat out of hell from a 2 packing a 5SFE. Skyungjae said, Toyota really dropped the ball replacing the 3SGE with a 5S. I lose power at 5400rpm. It is such a drag. In a way you are lucky that you had to swap the SW for a ZZW30. From what I have read they are supposed to be the best handling MR2 ever made. N/A tune that sucker and really give that Evo a beating. Max respect bro. MR2s for FTW.

  • The evo is not slow at all at Turnbull. Its the cheap EVOMR 6spd gearbox. The evos 6spd cant downshift and take a turn like a 5spd evo can. I go there all the time with my gay evo :)

  • Dude.. Your MR2 hung with him on the turns. You should stick with that 5SFE and make it an All-Motor Beast w/ some aggressive cams; Throttle response & balance, you can't go wrong. MR2s for LIFE!!!

  • I wish my roads were like that. I only have lake roads, but abuse them very much. That was a kickass video and goes to show how awesome the N/A mr2 is. I mean I have a turbo, but I guarantee a stock N/A (yours) could woop me in the autocross.

  • I Love my 3sge MR2, i won't change gears mid race anything under 6K and it just loves it. Nice drive mate, ya mate should do a drivers course to get more confidence with AWD Turbo and his right foot!.

  • unfortunately for me, the 5S-FE Camry engine is what came standard in the US. 130hp/140lbs the power just disappears after 5k. my friend now has 730awhp, so the only driving he's doing now is straight.

  • hahahaha, must have been my huge ass exhaust leak. the flex pipe on my ebay header hit so many things it was leaking real bad. The sound deadening carpet in the back was taken out for my roll bar. I was also running kirkosaurus polyurethane motor mount bushings which increased the cabin noise.

  • wow, initially I thought you were driving an AW-11 MR2, because that engine so closely resembles the sounds the 4AGE makes. =P

  • really? I was shifting so early though. The power on the 5S-FE would die at around 5k rpm. Toyota was retarded for pairing that motor and chassis in the US.

  • Yeah, he crashed his first EVO MR there like 3 months earlier. He was relying on sheer power on this run. If someone else had been driving the EVO, I have no doubt that I wouldn't be able to see his tail lights after a few corners.

  • I did write, in the description, that it's not a smart thing to do. However, I try to keep an open mind to all aspects of the car culture. Sorry if this offends anyone.

    I encourage everyone who's interested in driving to do it at sanctioned track events. Otherwise, be prepared to face the many consequences that can happen from driving on public roads.
