When I think about it now, I think that World War II storis sound better for the Americans fighting against the Japanese in the Pacific, although they also did fight the German Nazis, and don't forget about D-Day June 1944. That was a big part of the war. But The Pacific isint really like Band of Brothers, where all they do is walk around and randomly some medic or whoever gets their leg blown off by artillery and then they spaz. The Pacific is just mainly the Marines getting through the Pacific
ive got a question. is this movie based on true happenings, too, like band of brothers? sure, i know the pacific war was real, but i mean the single elements. in band of brothers for example they interviewed old mens who were in war. dyou know what i mean?
@Tischdecke Yes, it was written off of 2 books, "With the Old Breed" and "Helmet for my Pillow". There was a few interviews with veterans, but its been 10 years since BoB, sadly there wouldnt be too many veterans left.
They call them "The Greatest Generation" for a major reason: America was under attack and they came to her aid, no matter how brutal and hopeless the battle. My father was a US Navy fighter pilot (Hellcat, and Corsair) against the Japanese on board the USS Hornet, Yorktown and Coral Sea. Won the DFC for downing three jap planes in a single mission. Rest in peace.
@LilATL94 thank you some one who finally thinks the way i do . i think i know sow much a the european campains that i could teach a history class abbout the whermach and the nazis
After two episodes, so far, it's very hard to connect with any of the characters in this series. I'm hoping it gets better but I'm not going to hold my breath.
Band of Brothers was excellent. {I own the DVD set}
John Adams was very good. {I own the DVD set}
Generation Kill was not very good.
And The Pacific...well, the jury is still out on it.
But 2 episodes in & I'm not impressed with the writing, directing, acting, or special effects.
I think the next episode (3) will let us get to know the characters alot more, as they are in australia on r and r, so i think that there is a huge opportunity to let the viewers learn more before the series moves into the pelelui engagement
I watched the first episode on the hbo web page but they have now removed it and I guess if I want to see anymore that I have to buy hbo oh well, at the moment I cant even afford basic cable. first episode was good though. The Korean war would make a good miniseries also....
OMG the first part last Sunday was AMAZING. The only thing I liked so far about BoB more was that there was the whole training era where you got to know the characters more.
That being said, this IS a different series and I'm sure we'll get that as we go.
Eh. Beaches today are not what they used to be.

Band of Brothers was good.
It's too bad that most people don't know about the Pacific theater than they know about the damn european theater.
