Brian Selznick's inspiraton for his wonderful book, THE INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET. Now it's an equally wonderful film by Martin Scorcese, titled simply HUGO. Whatever you do, don't miss HUGO! It is the stuff that dreams are made of!
I just finished The Invention of Hugo Cabret, (awesome book) and i must say that i am so surprised these automatons actually exist! I thought it was all fictional, but it turns out, it's real! What an AMAZING invention which creates AMAZING drawings. I'm really impressed, great job to the creator and good luck with further inventions(:
The Invention of Hugo Cabret is a wonderful book. A touching and imaginative story and truly amazing drawings! My son (8 yrs old) and I read it together and we both loved it!
Why is there no close-up of the finished drawing??

I just saw a thing about this on Mysteries at the Museum. He draws three different pictures and writes several poems, two in French.

It seems far smoother in its motions than the Jaquet-Droz artist automaton, though less complicated in its functions.

Fascinating! If you watch it writing you totally forget about the complicated mechanics.
And thanks to Brian Selznick for writing this fabulous book!
