Come on people... Im not a Netrebko´s fan, but this is hardly what you´re writing here. Ok, she´s flat sometimes but besides that there are other points to take into consideration. The style and legato were there, the voice alone was just wonderful and she can or could sing this easily. It is exciting to hear this kind of voice singing that. We haven´t heard a big voice singing this since The Great Callas and Sutherland. Very exciting. Brava!

Traviata - Ms. Netrebko displayed ample power, coloratura bravura with a marvelous tone Having recently heard Natalie Dessay sing Sempre Libera at the Met Gala, one was impressed by the legato nature of Netrebko's portray in contrast to Dessay's intentional staccato, fragmented phrasing interpretation. Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.

I suspect that Anna is fully aware that her rendition here is not the best in operatic history. But I hope she knows that she gave the proms audience and many of us at home a tremendous evening of entertainment. Who else could have done this Bellini ... AND the Strauss ... AND dazzled us so brilliantly with the Lehar? ... Well, who?!
Entertaining, perhaps, but not one of those performances was any good. The Strauss was pedantic and tortured, Lehar trampy and vocally charmless, the Bellini just horrendous (love how she turns to the chorus at 1:42 after a particularly unfortunate passage). What's with slowing down anything tricky (i.e. the scale at 2:30)? She looks desperate throughout except when she's not singing. Who could do better? A dozen students in NYC alone.
I don,t like nowadays italian vocal method (its not the same school as previous)...I like Netrepko...She has beutifuland strong voise, dont be so yelous to her!!!
You asked me what is this: this is canto. this is an aria sung in a different way from bel canto. to hear Bel canto you have to listen Joan Sutherland. THIS is bel canto.
Ok...so if this isn't bel canto, what is it??? Her coloratura was mostly good - it seemed to be mainly plagued by the conductor not working with her. He seemed to rush her at the ends of phrases where she could have had some room to finish slightly more elegantly. The preceding aria was divine!
I'm sorry I'm not English nor American so I' m not sure I understood everything you said. I said "it is not bel canto" because I think that she has a very good voice but if you see it completly her singing was not bel canto. I think she is good, I just said that I don't like her singing this repertorio. Maybe I made a mistake judging her like this... but I'm Italian, and I KNOW what is BEL CANTO ALL'ITALIANA.
I think her coloratura is sub-par, don't you? Sluggish, inaccurate, approximate. She slows down far too much when she can't navigate the runs. It does not suit her at all. I'm trying to think of a less accurate coloratura technique from any famous voice of the last 50 years, and aside from Foster-Jenkins and Natalia de Andrade (may she RIP), I'm stuck. So why does she attempt these?
Netrebko has that edge that no one else has!

This is the worst version of the aria.
The flow of the melody is fragmented and
the flaws of the agilita technique are too
conspicuous. I really don't understand why this singer is
so overestimated.

xgianpatrick,
She attempts these in order to give you something to do in life.

well, this proves that looks are not everything in opera. she is simply NOT a bel canto virtuosa.

You asked me what is this: this is canto. this is an aria sung in a different way from bel canto. to hear Bel canto you have to listen Joan Sutherland. THIS is bel canto.

very good voice. But this is NOT belcanto.
