  • Was that casey kasem talking?

  • AT 78 SPEED................ZOOM

  • LSD sold separately!

  • I still have mine. There was a male doll too, his name escapes me. Rosemary had the best doll hair of all time.

  • Outa sight trashen dolls! YEA!!

  • wonder if they had a joint

  • Barbie on LSD. You've come a long way baby!

  • These dolls and many others are up for bid on e-bay...they're not cheap!

  • Wow, image having them now in 2011? How much is this worth. Can they put the record in MP3 form?

  • Now, let's take a guess at how many people bought Rosemary...

  • I always wondered where the people in old commercials are now..

  • @ROARIamSarah I know that is a bug out

  • I think its funny how these dances make them look like they are having a seizure.

  • they gave RoseMarry womanly hips and big boobs. lol RIce and Red beans didn't miss her

  • I totally remember this. Thanks for posting.

  • Wait, did he say that one of the dolls names are Rosemary? omg my name is Rosemary! lol but people call be Rosie! xD

  • My sister had these dolls. The Rock Flowers were big for a very short time circa 1971, then totally forgotten. This is the only thing about them out there anywhere.

  • Funniest toy ad ever! The 70s! Ha! Ha! What a ridicuolous decade!

  • Took me a while, but that first tune is The Searchers, "When you walk in the room."

  • The Old Gems and the Holograms! XD

  • what the hell is a record? LoL!

  • Every time I see another one of these trippy commercials for kitschy products from the 70s I'm reminded how I got so warped in the first place-growing up in this decade was the best! I had a Cher doll from the Sonny & Cher show!

  • @JsgHair71 ~ Ooooo I remember having a Cher doll that was great I used to play act with her with my Ken doll {he had to be Sonny}....lol I got you babe...!

  • each doll comes with her own fatty

  • Wow this is so awesome. I wish they still made barbies like this

  • I want Lilac :(

  • They came with records?! WTF 90's girls were CHEATED!

  • Damn! What a copy cat of the Beatle's Ticket to Ride sound.

  • Gawd! I want one!!!

  • I haven`t seen many Jem episodes but I think she`s pretty cool.

  • Yeah but if they digital the Rock flowers

record album. It's going to be Digital and

    remastered music on the cd

  • They should bring something like this back. These are good looking dolls.

  • i like lilac she's pretty!!! :)

  • "outta sight!"

  • Yeah, I had Jem in the 80s and was probably way cooler than this.

  • I have one of these dolls. Found it in a store which was going out of business. I have Lila. The doll and record are mint, the box was damaged though.

  • i had heather and lilac!

  • I'm old enough to remember this commercial, but it doesn't ring any bells at all. Oh, right. Drugs.

  • Is that casey kasem?

  • @thesonofabob Yes, it is

  • I want rosemary! she's awesome !!

  • Flower power!!!!

  • GOD I wish I was 20 in the 70's...

  • ok. never knew these dolls existed! wow learn something knew every day

  • Groovy.

  • oh god, my mom was 13 when this came out, lol

  • LSD not included.

  • I love how the girls just BURST out into dancing lmao!

  • try puttn that on a cd biach

  • it's Geri Reischl!!!

  • check out my videos....peter coukis

  • I got these dolls for Christmas in '71. I had hours of fun playing with them. Thanks for the memories! lol!

  • I had Lilac.

  • If you carve an "X" into their little plastic foreheads, and play play the record backwards, the records sings "Charlie is Love!" and "Free Charlie", over and over!

  • I still have these groovy little dolls packed away somewhere.

No offense taken, blackwhimsy, I'm guilty of pronouncing record as rekkerd but who the heck says Mondee? No American I know.

  • real groovy man.....really groovy, outta sight.

  • Heh heh, looks like Barbie on acid. I lived thru 1971, and honestly I've never seen a single child who dressed and acted like the kid with the short hair.

  • i remember i wanted this for christmas so bad, i didnt get it, i got a puppy, i love Jake , hes still alive, but old

  • @KisaKittyLove dangggg

  • Not to cause offense, but I've always puzzled at the American pronunciation of 'record' as 'rekkerrd' rather than reh-cord with''cord' said fully.Monday said as 'Mondee' always sounds odd too. Accents are funny things.

  • From what song was that opening guitar riff taken from? It sounds so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. Does about know?

  • To me, the beginning sounds like the beginning of the song "Ticket to Ride" by the Beatles. That's what I think.

  • Thanks for the reply. I happen to be a very ardent Beatles fan. I have been for years. I would have recognized the opening of Ticket to Ride instantly. The song snippet at the beginning is definitely not Ticket to Ride. I do hear a similarity, but the song in question is brighter and more bouncy. Again, I just can't put my finger on it. It sounds so familiar. Thanks.

  • @Doleafol The song you're thinking of is Jackie DeShannon's When You Walk In The Room. Also a big hit for The Searchers.

  • @SOLE2SOUL

Thank you so much for the reply. I had forgotten about posting that question about the opening riff. As I am a big fan of 60s music, I am glad to know. I would not have figured it out without your response. There's no "riff" database as it were where one can go to find these things out. As for the song itself, after a listen on YouTube, it does not seem to do justice to the magnificent riff that runs through it. But, I am glad to know the song.

  • There was a song on one of the records, but I don't recall its name...It went something like this...

"I'm as happy as a lime, floating in a boat, filled with lemon icecream..."

Anyone know what it was called?

  • Sing My Song, by Heather

  • Thank you so much :D

  • they should figure out some way to make those for CD and mp3 players. LMAO!!!!

  • thats tight

  • My mom loves those dolls!

  • I totally want thos far out dolls man!

  • I want one!

  • funny how all the 70s commercials were 1 minute long && now they are 30 seconds..if that

  • @fefilarue yeah i agree i bet there only 30 secs because now days doll qualty has really gone down the drain and they don't want you to see how crappy qualty is so they make it 30 seconds long lol

  • i remember these too.

  • I REMEMBER THESE!!!!!! Too wild:):):)

  • Why couldn't they have made cool dolls like this back in the 90's? I would have loved to of had a Barbie doll that does that, and even comes with MUSIC! omg. D:

  • @TwiggyMarshmallow I THINK in the 70's Barbie did spin on a record player like this. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

  • @TwiggyMarshmallow cool music and clothes too!

  • wow that is soooooo 70s!

  • lame azz

  • I love it!!

  • is that casey casum talking?

  • I loved these! lol I had a couple of these and some Dawn Dolls.

  • I remember getting "Heather," for my 8th birthday.

  • this would be still be a good idea now, if they could fit inside CD players...lol

  • I had the blonde Heather doll...

  • Thats Casey Kasem's voice!

  • :( i was born in 1971...so i never had any of these rock flower dolls.

  • your old

  • old? lmfao how old r u? 38 old? idk...

  • im kidding....we are both old...

  • XXXXYCODELLIUMM DDOOD

  • I had the Heather doll!

  • That is groovy commercial!

But those look like cool dolls. If I found one reasonable on ebay (HA!) I would buy one.

I can't help but laugh at 'now fashion'. That's sounds like something my daughter would say.

  • My mom had the blond one Lol. She made me watch this. It was effing hilarious

  • OMGosh, what memories! I had these dolls and loved them! I would speed up my record player so they would spin really fast! LOL! Thanks for posting!

  • These are great little dolls, getting harder to find all the time. I have a complete set of them and it took me years before I had them all. I collect dolls like these and also Dawn by Topper.

  • OMGosh, my friend and I had these!

I think one of the singing voices was Cheryl Ladd's.

  • My sister had Heather and the music was laughably atrocious...I think the record was orange and we would just laugh at how bad it sounded!

  • I've got to watch it again and count how many times Kasey Kasem uses the word "rock" in a sentence!

  • I want all of these. I guess I need to search on Ebay.

  • I want Heather!!

  • There was a Black doll and my mom bought me Heather? WTF!!!!

  • Groovy.

  • que lindas!

  • I bought my daughter Brittni the Lilac doll, and she lite it on fire back in 72.

  • i want one

  • Oh my.

    o_o

  • I don't remember the commercial at all, but I had the Heather doll. They were so cute, and the songs were pretty good.

  • I had Rosemary. I actually played that purple record on my mother's portable component set!

  • I had Heather, I even have the record. I uploaded the main song to youtube.

  • Where can I find the song?

  • I have sent you a message.

  • I think my mom bought me one of these dolls and tried to pass it off as a "Dawn" doll (I knew it definately wasn't a Barbie!)

  • lol i never seen hippy's dressed like this back in the 1970's.

  • i am not that old but i have seen pictures of hippys.

    theese dolls look like them!

  • That's Casey Kasem, the voice of Shaggy in the commercial for "Rock Flowers" by Mattel.

  • Heather? Rosemary? Lilac???

more like their mothers was on an acid trip when she named the children....and she saw flowersss

  • ooo i want rosemary,

  • i like rosemary.. shes a cute doll!!

  • I had the Heather and Lilac dolls and I loved the little records that came with them. Those songs were really good and I want to hear them again! It was nice seeing this commercial again - to see the fashions and long hair and flowers, that's the stuff I had back then - ahhh, those were the days!

  • do I hear a tinge of the searchers hit When you walk in the room crossed with the Byrds Turn Turn Turn and a melanie song in this commerical?!

  • That is the best black Barbie I have ever seen - she's actually black! Today's black Barbies just look like they have a tan!

  • Excuse me but black people come in all shades and color. We vary from really dark toned to very light toned.

  • @ThiefRikku0306 I never said they didn't, but I think it's not something you're understanding.

  • Hippy Dolls made by a company that didn't quite figure out that Flower Power was OVER in '71, HA HA HA!!!!

  • I had the doll that came with the record "SING MY SONG". Does anyone have that tune anywhere? I was completely obsessed over it and would love to hear it again...LOL~

  • i remember all the lyrics to this song but can't post them here b/c of space limitations . . . i'm, as happy as a lime, a floatin' in a boat, that's full of lemon ice-cream

i'm, so glad to spend my time, a singin' what i sing, it's like a living day dream

where do we go from here

do we wait on a plane for london

    . . .

  • OMG. My sister had Lilac and I was OBSESSED with her. along with Malibu PJ, she defined beauty for me. I totally forgot about her until I saw this commercial. And I think the Carrie Nation of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls somewhat triggered my memories of these dolls.

  • OMG I totally agree. I think BTVOTD whenever I see this!

  • GINA1IYB

  • Hardygirl is 100% correct. The song that was radio-played was: You're Numberwonderful. Can't believe I'm that ancient!!!

    Geezer in Texas

  • Hey, I just noticed that the black girl in the first portion of this ad was one of the actual members of the Rock Flower group. They only had one album from Wheel Records.

  • I love this! Thanks for posting ;)

  • I WANT ONE!!!

  • Hippy dolls! Hahaha--I love it!

  • yeah today 37 years ago!!!!

  • I had Rosemary when I was 5. Now I have a set of all of the dolls (including the later released Iris and Doug). I'm an after-school teacher and I bring these to school. My kids love them! Even the boys are intrigued watching the dolls spin on the records. (I pose them better). The only song I can't tolerate is Heather's "Sing My Song".

  • GET HEATHER

  • 0R R0SEMARY!!

  • It's been 11 months, and nobody said it yet, so okay...

    ... or Lilac!

(You-all will have to click "View all comments" to get this one.)

  • LOL i still dont get it

  • God, so much cooler than my 4 year old's Hannah Montana doll.

  • @HGbunny dont worry i think so too. hm dolls are crppyily made. and there a ripoff the idea was stolen too! the original hm is better and is not crappily made. go for the 80s JEM doll. much beter than hm

  • I couldn't remember what they were called until I saw this, I loved those dolls!

  • love the cloths

  • i had Rosemarie!!

  • Love this!

  • Hah! Wow, talk about

    downgraded Barbies?

    (ROFL@Kevin below me, <3)

  • LOL!!!!!!!

  • is that casey casum's voice? sorry i don't know how to spell his name?

  • Where's the ad for Baby That-A-Way?

  • Very hardcore...Looked like it almoast hurt!

  • That's some pretty hardcore dancing at 17 seconds...

  • Whoa. I'm definitely remembering these dolls now. Kasey Kasem's voice-over is great!

  • I had all three dolls. I still remember the lyrics to one of the songs. That commercial brings me way back!

  • No offense, but I'd rather have little girls playing with these dolls (which look innocent and fun) than slutty, hoochie-mama Bratz dolls with their collagen-implant lips.

How toys have changed over the years...

  • These dolls are absolutely cute though they would be considered "hippie" these days by many people. I hope someday the toy companies brings back dolls like this, and also some of the 80's dols like She-Ra and Jem.

  • Trust me, they were considered hippy then too.

  • yikes.....off to ebay!!! I NEED THESE!!!!

  • The blond girl in this commercial is Geri Reischl who played in lots of TV shows and other commercials but is best known as Fake Jan of the Brady Bunch. She could really sing and was a very good actress! I just saw her in a Gunsmoke episode and she was great!

  • i like heather

  • that's how i like to dance..by spinning round and round!

  • My sister had these (and I played with them) -- they were the same size as those Dawn dolls...they had groovy pink sunglasses too. Can't find anything about them online, however. I'd have thought to have dolls made they'd have left more of a mark.

  • The Rock Flowers "The first girl group pop scene band" opened for Tom Jones in Las Vegas...

  • They came up with some mod guy dolls later.I had a couple.Trippy outfits!

  • There was a vocal trio that featured 3 women who put out an album in late 1971. I have it and the featured single was called "Number Wonderful".

  • I have a 45 by this group on WHEEL records. "You Shouldn't Have Set My Soul On Fire." Great song!

  • OMG I HAD ONE OF THESE!!!! thanks!

  • he used to do the american hit list top 40.

  • ummm- I'm 37, and don't remember anyone actually dressing like those two girls did!

  • Rosemary looks like Angela Davis, only minus her toy machine gun and hand grenade.

  • so cool

  • if girls these days wore skirts that short the would be considered sluts. o how i miss the 70's :(

  • *LOL* I remember this commercial. Looks like they were trying to buy into the fading hippy trend of the 60's.

  • These dolls, along with the Dawn & Barbie ones, were more fun than baby dolls. They were definitely better than the Bratz dolls of today.

  • :O i have a Dawn doll! :D

  • I had the Heather doll too! Wow. I had forgotten.
