i feel like Ash got weaker after the advanced generation arc. i mean his pokemon evolve pretty quick he mae it to the top 8 in the hoeen league using reserves. he basically got 2nd place in the hoenn leauge since he barely lost to the winner. then in DP he uses stupid shit like "spin dodge" and "counter shield"

Volttackle is a move that seriously hurts when it hits a Pokémon but it also takes recoils. Protect is kinda useless in the game so they make it more powerful looking in the anime I think.
