man the version off "Jimi Hendrix Concerts" is out of this world or not from this world i should say! Jimi draw from the astral and presented it to the earthly so we may remember where we really come from.. he was/is a messenger send from beyond... i wonder where he is now!!! Play on Jimi...
@tokaicarl yeah man especially when he kicks in with teh wah pedal and wammy bar dives and gets that cool feedback and somehow incorporates it in the melody... only Jimi!
@chunksteak yeah spot on mate...i though machine gun wa sthe bollox(solo) until i heard that are solo were talkin about..its the melodic feedback that gets me in it....thank fuck they recorded that version properly..actually cant find it on here now thinkin about it \! peace
Hello there music appreciator. I know this looks like spam But PLEASE HEAR ME OUT
-Do bluesy bands likes Zeppelin, Floyd, Joplin, Doors, Hendrix, and The Who give you chills? Are you physically attracted to seeking truth in music? Well I am formally inviting you to take a listen to my channel, Using your open mind take the time to hear my tunes.. your subscribtion to my channel will help me show the world my music. Much Love.
Jimi was a spiritual -type player. The music came from within. Something that rarely happens too much now, because people don't consider it commercial. But what comes from the heart, touches the heart. always. Never forget that.
I really love 1970 era Hendrix for all the new directions and overall brilliance of the shows. But the shows in the late summer/fall of 1968 were so magical...especially this song. The version on "The Jimi Hendrix Concerts" from Winterland is so GIANT AND COSMIC it's staggering. That CD is out of print, but the Estate is coming out with a Winterland collection soon. I hope they don't diminish the sound. It was phenomenal on the original release. Check my channel for some good raw blues btw
Your right!! I have that Cocert cd. I have just brought the winterland box set. The feedback at the start of Are you experienced is HUGE!!! and when he starts the chug chug of the first bar is monumental!!!!! Its one of the most powefull moments on mussic I have ever heard. AWESOME!!!!!!111
@KAMON1973 Thanks for responding. Since I wrote that last comment, I went and got the Winterland box set too - they have the version we're talking about, and also another one that I came to love very much as well. And the sound is really good (thanks Eddie Kramer), so they didn't screw anything up like I was worried about. Have a great day bro - it's good to know there's people out there who have the same ecstatic reaction to I have to these things...
WOW....I LOVE THIS.....THIS IS ONE OF HIS BEST SOLO...LIKE HE IS REACHING FOR THE PERFECT NOTE. CHECK OUT MY VOODOO CHILE THAT I DID OF HIM. THE BEST THING ABOUT HENDRIX IS REACHING FOR THE SUSTAINED NOTES THAT STAY IN YOUR MIND AND TAKE PEOPLE TO NEW PLACES.
i have noticed that Justin Bieber is , the; sort of "Lamb Sacrifice" of you tube. 7 dislikes is. Seven unexplainable perspectives (w/closed minds)!!!!!!!
Phoenix was one of the best live shows Jimi ever did. Amazing setlist. We're lucky any audio survives at all. SOMEDAY computers will be able to process this crappy audio and make it sound better than we can even imagine. And they'll match it up with holographic movie images of the Man.
Back in the day, I used to cover this song, with no clue how Jimi would have done it live, (I never knew he had done it live). We just took a guess and went for it. Hearing this, I can see we were not very close. :) But then, who would be?
@mistrynp Yeah - that version on The Jimi Hendrix Concerts release is HUGE. One my all time favorite pieces of music. Out of print, of course...and there are so many of Jimi's masterpieces - recordings and video - STILL hidden by legal wrangling or whatever other petty reasons. Anyway this is another beautiful version - he was always majestic, but somehow he sounded especially cosmic and enormous when he played this live.
"And the Lord said, let there be Jimi Hendrix; and then there was light. Jim was not that light but came into the world to share the knowledge of the light light. The world rejected that light and so it's backward today."
Why God? Why pick on all of us and not just the backward folk. How much can a Koala bear?
Nothing new under the sun since Jimi went to heaven.
Cheers for posting this! I've been looking for it for a while - used to have it on cassette and can't find a record of it on the discographies I've looked at so far. The song I'm really after is Voodoo Chile SR - I seem to remember it being the funkiest version I'd ever heard!
Jimi's set-up was basically two stacks of Marshalls (cranked all the way up) with a Strat that had single coil pick-ups. It's amazing that he could actually control his guitar! With that much volume through single coil PU's, the hiss and feedback is like trying to control a raging beast !!!!
He was Very Gentle when gettin Feedback fr his guitar, although it doesn't sound like like it.Those amps being Cranked Up,all you had 2 do was lightly " tap " it at times, and adjust the whammy,to keep it in Key.
yeah i noodle with my guitar with my amp turned all the way up and just barely touch the strings. sometimes just tap the back of the head stock or neck. if ur not finesse with it then all u end up doin is makin uncontrolable noise. its easy to get out of control.
Do ya have " a maple " neck ? The Rosewood & Ebony ones almost acts as a type of ground, although Maple gives a broader range.Noticed Jimi played wt Maple " live " fr 69' through the end.
@cydonianman "the neck is maple but the fret board is rosewood... i think my guitar is a Telecaster btw."
duh..mine IS a telecaster. it was my grandfather's till he died. i didn't know much about guitars till after my gramp's death a year ago. just found out recently from my great uncle that he built it himself. its got a humbucker bridge pickup. i still like noodling with it while my shoebox size amp at level 11
after hearing jimi's music i dont need LSD. and this dude played LOUD...i mean LOUUUUD. those who were around to see him live say that it went through ur bones. u become a changed man after leavin jimi's concert.
I doubt he considered himself " a master ",cause his playing was so " personal " .He was often Frustrated live, because of tuning problems and audience Demands. He was more of A Seeker, who through Desire often found Delight
Listen KeepPlayTheRecord! Since you obviously have the complete audience tape of from this concert, why don't you post Come on Pt. 1 which follows this tune? It's a sizzling rendition and is worthy of posting. Please do it!!!!!!!!!
Novum07, WTF, Is your problem??, this song may not be his best but he is still a fucking icon i mean listen to: Purple Haze or fire and you will see why english is better than spanish (at least for Music)
exactly. people here throw around the notion of LSD like its cigarettes... they really don't know. LSD is just years of meditation in a blotter. temporary enlightenment, and even longer if you're wise
anyhow , I think its better to grow and to developp if its possibel.than tu use the drugs .but if u take then u have to learn from it!! ( the experience)and not only become a user!!
Then he follows this with Come on Pt. 1. How rare is that? I have seen a number of acts at this venue and I think of this show every time I am there. The sound of LSD? I guess. Then again, there is nothing can be ingested that could make someone think of this ,then play it with their eyes closed. :o)
I dont see why people are flaming him, what he is saying is true, but its a positive thing, basically saying how jimi hendrix was able to create something others would only be able to feel.
Nobody did it like Hendrix..I'm sorry I missed the excitedment in the 60s. I was too young and didn't understand what it was about..Didn't become a fan til much later. He was a genius. Long-live his music!
9/04/68: Phoenix Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona. Are You Experienced? Come On (Pt 1) Little Wing, Voodoo Chile, Fire, Spanish Castle Magic, Foxy Lady, Like A Rolling Stone, Sunshine of Your Love, Hey Joe, Star Spangled Banner, Purple Haze.
