Ledger's a genius! He actually IS the Joker! He knows that if the Joker were a true psycho, he would try and confuse as much people as he can! He does this via the clapping, he has no reason to clap -- yet he does clap!

Not even in the script is marvelous! This is why the people looked shocked! Possibly not at disbelief of the Joker clapping -- but at the shock that Heath is clapping whilst not being instructed to!

Heath was a hell of an actor! Just incredibly mind-blowing!

The only knock I have with this film and any other great film we see nowadays is the damn high tech cameras they use. Whatever happened to the good old days where things were kept simple and use of CG crap was abandoned. Case in point, the original batman didn't use any complex camera work or any of that crap. Don't misunderstand me I LOVE the Dark Knight movie as much as the original batman, but it could have been made that much more enjoyable just keeping simple camera shots.

Dude what are talking about?? The Dark Knight uses mostly practicle sets. Besides the purpose of CG is allow for much more complex shots that could not be done practically. I am really annoyed by all these people who talk about CG as if its the death of movie making. I think out of the brilliant things in this scene the one that always stood out for me is how there is nothing on Joker.
