@necrofagg0t Mentioned Korn is understandable since they did come before and had a huge impact on metal. Gojira probably are influenced by them even if they don't realize or admit it. Anyway, your name sucks.
@MattyCakezZ what? it's fucking true.. folk metal, power, epic, are all fucking cheesy as fuck genres.. we grew up with them (into metal i mean). but that's just it.. nothing more.. when there 're bands like gojira, opeth or tool (and these are mere examples.. i could go on forever) why would you bother with bands like winter sun, felshgod bullshitcalypse, or ensiferum (which i actually delightfully listened to ..4 years ago when i was a kid ffs)..
@steliospitsillides Well if you actually look at it, fleshgod and wintersun are both progressive agressive classical. I don't see how you could compare them to ensiferum (which is cheesy). @steliospitsillides oh big shot, lets all brag about our life accomplishments so we can see whos more important and not respect personal opinions or personal creations. I dislike laiho, found him as a lost cause who lost is will to write good music after his first album. And cannot stand malmsteen. Roland Dyens is alright, I am not in the least impressed with a night in tunisia. If they're so overused, they wouldn't be signed by record companies or listened to by millions.
@MattyCakezZ are you fucking kidding me with the "signed by record companies" argument ? 90% of the music industry is subculture.. and if you want a metal specific list of shit releases its probably one much longer than other genres as well. Your argument is invalid.
Anyway, i want continue this cause people 're gonna get annoyed and irritated if they haven't already.
@steliospitsillides 100% of record company signed bands are mainstream. My argument is not invalid as i've not brought up a single argument. I've only stated my own personal opinions and thoughts. So, sir, YOUR argument is invalid.
@MattyCakezZ How old are you 5??? my word.. ever heard of independent labels and small record COMPANY'S... These put out ton's of albums etc that arent mainstream... thus your 100% or record company signed bands are mainstream is bollox.. Now if you had have said the big record company's maybe your statement wouldn't be crap.
Sounds like someone ate up the kashmir song, the korn groove, and avenged 7x high pitch screams and threw it up in the beginning^^ I want a new album now!
Sounds like In Flames - Bullet Ride... But then again bullet ride sounds like Led Zeppelins Kashmir. As does Immortal - Tyrants. Weird... O_o Anywho; great song!
@LunatikProductions12 ME, Problem bro? (reason why I disliked is because amazing content like this shouldnt be floating around the internet for free, we should be buying albums and supporting amazing metal bands like Gojira so that we can have our minds blown for the years to come)
@Direksone Hardly, they take more money than they give. Not to mention the more mainstream labels such as Roadrunner and Nuclear Blast will attempt to make a band play a certain style, whilst reaping the money that they've made via the sales and marketing. Major labels are nothing more than manipulative dicks in my books. They say that they'll market and support a band while in return they want to change their style and rake in the profits that the band made...
@HeadsOfTriglav You sir, obviously have no clue how the business works;). 1: a label needs to make money to survive, so it is not weird for them to do so. Without them and Music Publishers we would have very few artists, however a change is coming with the DIY artists. It is not the label that changes the style, it is the band, people seem to forget that. Some labels might push in a certain way, but then the band does not have the spine to stand up for themselves.
@Direksone Haha, you ever hear of Nuclear Blast? You must have. You are aware that they MAKE melodeath bands play a certain (and shitty) brand of the music in order to be signed (look at Sonic Syndicate, In Flames, Soilwork (why do you think these last two bands in particular changed their style)) right? Many artists/bands who sign to these types of labels will do it for the exposure (these are what we call SELLOUT BANDS) nd could care less about a change in style, and labels get profit from it.
@HeadsOfTriglav 1: Where is your proof? 2: if this were the case there would be proof. 3: people change, bands change. Every band would and should sign to a label as big as Nuclear Blast and Roadrunner EXACTLY for the exposure, if handled well they can get very big, which is what every band. You really have no clue what you are talking about. Labels are suffering major losses, this year also I've heard nummers of 40million or billion losses amongst the 4, or should I say 3, major labels.
@Direksone I have no proof as I don't listen to anything off of these labels, I stick to independent/underground and this isn't a facade, I've been listening to metal for 15 years and labels are not the same as they work back then. I just think it's a little more than coincidental that many of these bands on these mainstream labels all have the exact same sound, that same watered down one loaded with catchy riffs and hooks and lyrics that pretain to the mainstream crowd.
@HeadsOfTriglav I know enough. "I have no proof as I don't listen to anything off of these labels, I stick to independent/underground and this isn't a facade, I've been listening to metal for 15 years". You only listen and have no experience or knowledge in or about the music business industry. It is a bit coincidental indeed, you're thinking about it too much cause for instance at Roadrunner no band is the same. Labels do not work the same way no, as the business has changed.
@Direksone I quit paying attention around 02-03 and moved on to underground/independent labels/bands because decent music on these major labels began to become few and far between. So, yes I'm behind on the "tactics" labels use today. But fuck, is that what metal has turned into on these major labels today? It's just about money? What the fuck happened to the passion and doing it for YOUR fanbase?
@HeadsOfTriglav Well sadly there are few labels out there that do that. I haven't noticed much of it in the metal, but in the general music busines. Well simply put: labels don't make much money anymore so they don't do much as it costs a lot of money. The labels within metal are not even major within the record industry, though some, like Roadrunner, are part of them (Warner). The business is changing whether that be for good or bad.
@Direksone In my opinion, I think it would be for the good. I'll go ahead and put 2 and 2 together here and assume that because labels are losing money, bands that are signed to the label have to pump out new work within shorter time spans in order to keep the label afloat. With such a short time span to write these albums, they become more half-assed. While independent a band can take the time it needs to write a good album and not have to rush it.
@HeadsOfTriglav Yes, however I don't think that is as much the case in the metal genre as it is in commercial music. It all comes down to the deal that you make.
@HeadsOfTriglav The market has drastically changed thanks to MP3s and labels needed to make money on other terrains as they were loosing money bigtime on recordsales and still are. That is why they are more hesitant to sign and artist and when they do the deals are not the best for an artist, no, however it's a choice you have to make as an artist and can be well worth it. You can never do what for instance Roadrunner can do for you independantly. You'd be a fool not to sign to them.
@Direksone And very few artists? Their are thousands of metal bands that are unsigned or on independent labels that are doing very well for themselves without the mainstream exposure. Look at the likes of Persuader, Nokturnal Mortum, The Chasm, etc. all on underground labels, all play their own individual styles, all market their own music. They may not draw a large amount of crowds within the mainstream community but are well known and marketed within the metal community.
@HeadsOfTriglav And they are doing well? I doubt it. Plenty of bands even signed at the major labels have a hard time, Chimaira is an example of that, they went from Roadrunner to Ferret (Nuclear Blast) and have switched to Koch recently, they changed once or twice more in that period. Very few artists, almost none in the metal community, can get rich nowadays. Those bands you are mentioning are just surviving, which ofcourse is of no matter as they can play music, I'd love to be in their shoes.
@HeadsOfTriglav Yet however you have no valid points proven yet. You have no clue as to what you are talking about regarding the labels and other music business related subjects so you can cut the facade and just admit your fallacy.
@SackBoy105 Look up Strapping Young Lad, if you're really into Gojira, you'll probably enjoy them. He's got a lot of solo stuff, but it's not nearly as aggressive.
@SackBoy105 You should check out a song called Sumeria, it's Devin Townsend featuring Joe DuPlantier on guest vocals. The whole album that it's on is fantastic.

@HeadsOfTriglav Oh btw, you can stop now as you'll loose this discussion <3

@Fu7ureBREED That would be the voice of Devin Townsend, the magical Canadian musical goblin wizard.

@SackBoy105 Look up Strapping Young Lad, if you're really into Gojira, you'll probably enjoy them. He's got a lot of solo stuff, but it's not nearly as aggressive.
versusterminus19 8 months ago
@SackBoy105 You should check out a song called Sumeria, it's Devin Townsend featuring Joe DuPlantier on guest vocals. The whole album that it's on is fantastic.

@gp1234567ful saying something "rapes" to compliment it is about as intelligent as writing "first!" in the comments. get a fucking new term.
