There is something about this synth that is just magic. Every sound that comes out of it sounds good. You can't make a bad sound on an Arp Axxe. The same can be said for the Odyssey, although the Odyssey is a bit more difficult to program. The Axxe is great because it's so simple yet great.
Don't worry, i was ;) I actually just got an Arp Axxe 2 days ago. It is waay better than my microKorg, but that is still good too. But this has such a fat, thick sound. Mine is in the same condition as yours, with all of the slider caps and everything, but my octave transpose is a little off. When I move it up, It goes about 2 notes higher, when I move it down, it goes about 1 note lower. How can this be fixed, it's really annoying, especially if performance will take place every now and then.
Sounds like it needs to be calibrated. There is a trim pot used to calibrate the octave switch. Sounds like that needs an adjustment. Any tech with a service manual and tools/scope can do this. Good luck!

However, I wanted to let you know that you should be able to make this calibration fairly accurately (a lot better than it currently is) by using just your ears (unless you are pitch deaf!). But it's best to use a frequency counter or tuner. There should be instructions on how to do this in the service manual. Several websites offer .pdf files of the Axxe Service Manual and User's Manual as free downloads. Do a google search for "ARP Axxe Service Manual".
Another great demo. My favorite sounds on the Axxe are pulse width modulated with a little bit of filter turned down. Rugged!
