  • Rob ford needs to be ousted by a civil war constructed by the people of his city

  • If Ford wants a subway why can't he just build a subway all the way to Nielson Rd?? and how about a Finch West subway to satisfy etobicoke all the way to Humber college... and while your at it how about a subway to the airport too??? if he wants to end gridlock jsut build the subways everywhere not constraining them to a short distance aka upto scarborough town centre... either do that or bring back Transit city..

  • I'm so glad that Ford scrapped out this piece of shit plan, Toronto's road is already too congested, there's no room for surface LRT's or Streetcars.

  • @bassplayer923 Logical error: Most of the people currently on those roads would be on the LRTs. an LRT takes an incredibly smaller mouth of space for the same number of transported people. Sustainability.

  • @seidoger Logical error: Most of the people currently driving on those roads won't give up driving their own cars.

  • @bassplayer923 On the spot no, I agree. But I believe it's a mentality push that must be made. This city has transportation issues, and a mindset change is needed, even if it takes years. Make people think for a second. "What if... What If i tried public transportation?"

  • @seidoger The problem lies within TTC as well. There's a saying TTC stands for Take The Car, because of the poor maintenance, rude employees, frequent delays, disgusting environment, funding issue.. which led up the fare to $3 and even rising with a 10% service cut. It's more like "What if the politicians take the public transportation? So that they realize what needs to be done." If the government realizes the importance of public transportation, drivers would consider taking the TTC.

  • @bassplayer923 For that I sadly all agree with you.. If most people knew how much TTC employees are paid, they'd jump.

  • @seidoger That's why VIVA/YRT drivers are on strike. The 905 drivers make $23/hr while TTC drivers make $29/hr.

At least TTC is now an essential service, no more 'legal' strikes.

  • I for one am glad that Transit City is cancelled. Those roads don't need any more streetcars / LRTs, which would just mess up the roads if you put rail lines on those roads. LRT = Largely Redundant Transit!!!

  • wouldn't an underground LRT just be a subway -_-

  • My grandma walks faster than those light rail!

I can pay one extra quarter if they can turn every light rail into subway

  • annnnnnnnnnnnd then ford shat all over this.

  • Toronto is much better than most Canadian cities excepting Vancouver. Here in Winnipeg we get shafted every day, all we have is noisy, smelly, bumpy buses, that's right, unless you drive a polluting car, all we get is a bus! I am tired of it, and know we need an electric LRT system to go ahead and be a better city

  • Rob Ford Already Scrap the transit city plan just for a small sheppard Subway Expansion.

    Rob Ford is a fool

  • ROB FORD IS A idiot

  • LMAO. wotta joke.

  • Look in the mirror and you will see a moron staring right at you. If you want to freeze in the winter while waiting for a LRT then go right ahead but don't force that nonsense on us.

  • The lady speaking in the video sounds like the lady from Mighty Ships on the Discovery Channel.

    Anyways, I think it's about time to build these lines. For example;

People living in Scarborough only needs around 15-20 minutes to get to downtown by highway, but take approximately ONE HOUR to get there.

Toronto's Transit system needs to improve, NOW.

  • I believe that LRT would just make another incompatible system like the SRT (which should get it's compatability isues fixed and join BD), I'd rather see the entire plan done in pure subway form like YUS, BD, and Shep rather than interfere with motorists on the surface, even if it takes longer to have the entire thing come together underground, even if it starts small, and even if it costs more, it would be a lot better than having a streetcar in someones way, and no red lights to slow it down

  • Who in the right mind would advocate for a sheppard subway extension to Scarborough? The sheppard line has a lower PPDPH count than the Harbourfront streetcar! The whole thing should be shut down, rebuilt, and interlined with the SELRT, making the resulting Sheppard LRT underground from Consumers to Yonge. The suspended service will not be a huge loss as nobody uses it anyway!

  • Cont'd: The rest could go as LRTs though. But given that Rob Ford is killing this project, then, might as well divert everything to Hamilton (planning 2 LRT lines: Downtown-Airport and McMaster-Eastgate), Kitchener-Waterloo (planning 1 LRT line), and Mississauga (planning 3 LRT lines: Hurontario, Dundas, and Lakeshore).

  • Brampton planned their Steeles BRT to connect to Finch LRT, and their Queen BRT to University-Spadina Line. Mississauga planned their transitway to connect to the then-proposed Eglinton subway line to relieve congestion at Bloor. York Region planned their BRT to connect to YUS and Sheppard lines. Durham Region is currently planning for their BRT to connect to the SRT. Personally, the most needed are DRL, Eglinton subway, SRT conversion, and Sheppard extension. I'm willing to pay more for these 4

  • We need Subways, period. LRT is simply not ideal in the winter or the multiple stop lights. Please kill this plan NOW!

  • @dragonstout you're a moron. Edmonton has an LRT system. They have colder winters and more snow.

  • How fast is that thing going at 2:40?? Looks like it's going at 120 km/h - yeah right. It still has to stop for lights at cross streets.

  • Well if Ford has his way; this is done and it will be a subway for Sheppard. While I agree with that point (since it's an existing line) and the area would really be densified; the way he's going about this - it's going to cost Toronto huge $.

  • scrap transit city the roads are bad enough, keep it all undergound from scarborough to pearson airport.

  • @teebrron Have you any clue how expensive that would be?

  • If you people want subways then you better to pay for it one way or the other or ask the B of C to print more money and give it to us for subway construction (since there's not enough money to go around)

  • This is stupid, what they really need to do is put it on tracks elevated above the road so that it won`t have to stop for anything just stops only, or underground at least.

Without any of these options it`s little more than a streetcar...

  • I can't wait for Transit City GOnna be sweett!!

  • AUGH! They cut the Pearson Airport section!

  • Fuck LRT's and new subway trains , BUILD SOME NEW SUBWAY LINES

  • Building and operating subways are extremely expensive especially if the capacity is very low like the Sheppard Line. Unless you people are willing to pay higher taxes, fares or printing more money from the B of C, then dont think about having a subway near your place.

  • TTC... Successful history... can't be...

  • isnt the city conjested enough? and these idots are gonna put faster street cars right in the middle..and make some of it underground. why not just make subway lines..ill be more easier..and maybe just a little bit more expensive..but its the best alternative. FUCK YOU MAYOR MILLER AND FUCK YOU TRANSIT CITY (ps. this is a good idea..but its stupid)

  • Is your remove comment button broken or can't you find it?

The idea of new subway lines is LAUGHABLE at. This is the best alternative because 1) It isn't as crowded as a bus nor as expensive as a subway, 2) Where will the subway be, haven't we learned from Sheppard subway line's failure, we need to make lots of holes and order a lot trains and who will guarantee it would be a waste of money or not, 3) the LRT and the entire plan will improve Toronto's look & 4) (cont.)

  • (cont. from last comment) LRTs are planned for the predicted future statistics where more people will use Public Transit but to add to that, LRTs will encourage people to use public transit by taking up roads, forcing people of their cars, and by looking like a cool way to travel. :-)

  • Project of this size require Federal funding. No Fed no go. No city could absorb the cost. In Japan the train routes or not payed by the cities but the federal government.

The Shepard line took as long to build as the chunnel between UK and France.

Don't hold your breath on this project. Won't happen.

  • It already began. It being paid by the MoveOntario2020 wich will improve GO Transit, TTC, Missisauga Transit, VIVA Bus Rapid Transit, and others. Just look up "MoveOntario2020 project on wikipedia or google.

  • i visit Toronto and few of my friends live on DOnMills/Eglinton He told me actually on DOnMills/Gate way on the back there is a GO train passage which paseses on the back of that area. If they can make ONE GO-STOP plateform there, that will also be so help full for the people . and passage can be done from the Park area, Don Mills or GATEWAY STOP for the GO train will be really a very practical WORK of GO trasit , which will also help TTC commuters.

  • what a waste of money of money.......LRT is good but not for eglinton...............the line is way too too long. I hope Metrolinx uses Sky Train technology for this line

  • That would be nice but the LRT is already being constructed. I live at the crossroads of Eglington and Jane.

  • I think this is such a waste of money. People will still drive because this new LRT is the same thing as a bus. it will still be controlled by the traffic lights. That is why subways have such a huge advantage.

  • @0123kid

It controls traffic lights to it's advantage. Plus you can't ignore these neighborhoods who really need this. This is the best choice and it is stupid to build a subway since this can get to your destination as fast as a subway. With the exception that a subway is for a very high ridership. If you didn't know, half of the Eglington Crosstown will be underground.

  • @0123kid it's not controlled my traffic lights.... the LRT lines will be in the middle of the street in quiet areas, in busy areas there will be an underground LRT....

  • I hope the LRT cars look fancy and have the G-E-C chime when the doors close. They really need to make the LRT in Pearson Intl. Airport ASAP. And there should be a night line that goes all night IMO.

  • There will be 2 LRT to Pearson at terminal 1 & 3. GO already planned and aproved a new line rail line to terminal 2.

  • @cutegirl1223334444 THEY CUT THE AIRPORT LRT STATIONS! WHYYYYYY!

  • nigga wuzup

  • these things (new subway, extensions, etc.) should have been implemented long time ago.....it's too late to start thinking about it now......

  • damn, I hate Streetcar or LRT or ground outside during Winter Time, I been stand and waiting for Streetcar or LRT, I feel so freeze to death!!!!!!

STUPID GOVERNMENT, STUPID MAYOR, STUPID TTC

    Underground is BETTTTTTTTTTTTTER!!!!! Mofo!!!!

  • @dlop024

The Egington Crosstown will be half underground.

  • Honestly, thy should extend Sheppard subway to Dowsview and extend YUS line to York U. That way, ppl from York U have a better way of going to Scarbgorough or elsewhere in the West. Less crowd on the Rocket to York U, the better.

  • @VprPlyr14 what about us in scarborough? we need a better transit system here :P LRT prefereably, Subways never get built in Toronto nowadays, Ford is a fool, he won't even have more than one term, and after he goes the next guy is going to cancel and put back transit city, which is good, but we would have wasted a lot of time.

  • @waterlizardz123 : I do agree. The Sheppard subway isn't the best awnser. He can't even provide all the funding just for his project. At least we could go farther with LRT's.

  • @VprPlyr14 They are extending the YUS line to York U

  • Toronto doesn't need more subways, it's too expensive to build and the operating cost is too high. This is what the entire sheppard line should have been in the first place. Subway works for dense city core while LRT serve better in suburbs.

A large intricate subway network only works for large metropolitan areas that have a high population density over a large area (e.g. new york, beijing, london). This similar system is being used successfully in other city, such as Boston.

  • you are stupid, the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) is bigger than london, so its a good thing to put this LRT

  • Idiot, did even bother to read what I've typed? I didn't say we don't need LRT, I just said we don't need more damn subways for the same reason you've mentioned, it's a big city. LRT makes more sense for outside of downtown core area.

  • No no no. The best thing that they should have done is build the subway on Eglinton like planned, and build LRT on the same route as the Sheppard subway possibly extending it from Yonge to Downsview in the West and to wherever in Scarborough in the East.

  • The Eglinton line should also be built.

  • Toronto could use one more subway route. 1 that will go down Bay street, Dupont, And up Bathhurst to Steels.

  • Well that would be a nice idea, but it only solve the problem of congestion along north south corridor. Toronto is a curved shaped city, since downtown core is along the lake shore. So, if cost is not an issue, then another subway like that forms a larger U shape should be the way. Look up Downtown Relief Line on Wikipedia for how it looks like.

But this is too pricy, which is why i support the LRT more than another subway line

  • Toronto needs both, LRT lines, and 2 new subway lines. It also needs to bring back Trolley bus routes.

  • one we dont have the money for subways and two we do not have the population.

  • -population we have it for sure.

  • Oh we have the population: Toronto has around 2.7 million in the city limits, 6 million with the GTA suburbs and 8 million with the Golden Horseshoe, but we have 4 subway lines. Barcelona is 1.6 million by itself and over 4 million in the area, yet it has 10 lines for a subway. They keep increasing the fare for subways in Toronto so they better save up the type of money for even more lines in the near future anyways.

  • @sega31098

There are many, many differences between the two.

You haven't even scratched the surface! You've done nothing but spread ignorance!

  • @Scoinsoffaterocks

Then again, Barcelona has such a high density and Toronto\s is lower.

  • @sega31098

    Yes, along with other factors.

  • I checked all MoveOntario project on wikipedia and their official sites and I won't count on it. The relief line has as much chance of being a reality within the next 50 years than GO transit placing rail lines around Ottowa within the next 100 years.

  • thats just what we need, more fucking streetcars. (sarcasm)

the ttc needs to stop with the more buses and expand the subway so that it doesnt increases the traffic that having two less lanes will cause.

it also needs to do away with tokens and crap and go metro card.
