  • Häll upp för jävulen! Nu vill jag ha midsommar!

  • men vart är spriten?!

  • I love Sweden because it gave the world Notch and Tejbs :]

  • wooooooooooooooow!!

    amaizing, nice tradition......

  • Sure puta a nic smile on my face. Lennart in Connecticut

  • We have little Scandinavian festivals in the US but of course they are far from any thing authentic most of the time. But we have a lot of fun going to them and spending some time away from our normal lives. It also gives us another excuse to drink beer :)

  • @pixelsoul Since when did you need a excuse for drinking beer hehe :)

  • @Knasterreal1 Very good point you have there :)

It is similar as folklor in the Moravia I like it !

  • This looks like a lot of fun! In the US we don't really have anything like this as far as traditions go. Any dances that we have are typically social rather in celebration of anything.

  • Yeah, so did i. Always skipped those classes though. I can dance foxtrot that is all i need to know lol

  • We actually had to learn a few of these dances in school when I was like, 11.

  • leta efter: NO DETENGAS TU PROGRESO

  • Glad Midsommar!!

    Ulf

  • This is lovely. I'm just worried about the survival of these traditions.

So few of the new generations wish to learn these dances. Thats why so many old people are seen performing them.

  • Happy Mid Summer, Glad Misdsommar!

  • Remember me the tarantella of Puglia, South of Italy

  • There is not place for this tradistion among Swedes now. specially the young ones!

  • @InWay2oCCNA

Why arent there? Im 17 and love midsummer, my friends also do. Swedish kids and teens are grown up with these traditions and has a special meaning for many young people, as a confirmation of the summer, fellowship with family and friends, eat good food and have a good time. What we should be worried about is the great immigration to Sweden that will affect tomorrow's traditions and will change whatever Sweden once was to a more "answedish" and boring place to be..

  • @InWay2oCCNA Speak for yourself you ignorant bastard.

  • @InWay2oCCNA that's too bad. they must not think much of their culture or traditions

  • man måste älska oxdansen i slutet

  • Instead of wearing medieval peasant costumes, I think it would be much more fun if everyone dressed as vikings.

  • @narutodayo vikings was medieval peasents lol

  • @ThatGuyWithThePenis vikings were Iron age farmers. you twat...

  • Kul med folkdans.

Vissa saker ser jätteskumma ut haha

  • It's important to preserve our Scandinavian traditions and to pass them on to our young people, even though they may think less of them.

  • @ballebanan Helt korrekt!

  • @ballebanan Haha yeah right, på med hårdrock och fram med 75:an...

  • @ZombieHorror666 HeHe :)

  • @ballebanan SMÅÅÅÅÅ GROOODORNAA, SMÅÅÅÅÅ GROOODORNAA ÄR LUSTIGAAA ATT SEEE!!

  • Tacka Svealand för det. :D

  • nice although this phenomenom isnt particuarlly swedish in nature. but rather germanic.

  • hahahah....very funny ^^... !!

  • No no no this is not midsommar in Sweden. They are standing up everyone

  • So nice! Don´t forget my song..."Midsommarafton"!

    Ulf Sawert

  • Thank you for a wonderful dance and music.

  • I am an American of Norwegian and Swedish descent. I belonged to a folk dance group and truly appreciate how nice these performers have brought Scandinavian culture to all of us! John Johansen

  • Actually my relatives name was Johansen. They emigrated from Norway and lived/lives in Minnesota^^

  • You never know, we could be related from somewhere back in Scandinavia. My family was from Oslo, Lillehammer, Vestfold, and Hadeland Norway. (also Gillberga, Varmland, Sweden) John

  • People in america with a lastname ending on "son" have roots in sweden while "sen" is in norway

  • ja , jag vet^^.

  • when you watch this you start to think about what actually happened with these celebrations. I mean, sure families with young children probably does it like this, but the teenagers and people without children they just take their boat to the archipelago(I just looked it up so it may be wrong) and get drunk, right? I used to dance around the...stick with flowers on it until i became 12, since then I've just done it like everybody else. Ok, I didn't drink when I was 12 but i didn't take long...

  • You are wrong, you consider it "hijacking" because they celebrate it, you idiot. The problem lies in you, not in people celebrating it, please. And they don't use it as an argument for anything since they're for assimilation before repatriation.

  • I don't know, you better ask THEM. Why are you having an aggressive and violence-romantic avatar of your own? :)

  • if it is anyone infiltrating anything. then its you "loxdenstore" who spread your anarchist message where it doesn't belong.

this is about midsummer celebration, not politics

  • violence, vandalism and death threats are usually how the demonstrations of the far left can be characterized

  • Has this evolved from a pagan tradition?

  • Yes indeed, but its not particularly Nordic. People from all cultures around the world have celebrated the astronomical fact where the sun reaches its orbital peak, both in summer and winter. In Cuzco (Peru) for instance, the Incas celebrated (and still celebrate) this date as far as one thousand years ago. Its therefore a global, pagan tradition, but everybody have their own way of celebrating it.

  • this way of celebrating is entirely specific to their culture.

there is no 'global tradition' amongst peoples who had no idea about other another.

    silly revisionist.

  • Eidelmania,

That depends on what you mean with the word "this". Is it the celebration of midsummer in general or this type of dancing in particular?

  • This is a really nice tradition! Love Sweden :D

  • who know what's the name of this dance??

  • Cool! The stylized fight at the end was well done and quite funny. ^_^

  • My dad's parents came to the USA from Varmland,Sweden in the mid 1900's. Before coming to this country my grandfather was a Palace Guard for the King. It's really interesting for me to see this. Someday I hope to make a trip to Sweden and see where my grandparents came from!

  • Oh! Värmland is were I'm from...

That was so fun to find out, when we were in the US last December, that there are som many pepole from for ex. Chicago and Minneapolis that relly wantet to meet us. And when some of them hered that I was from Värmland, they simled and became all exited becaus there relatives came from Värmland....

  • It´s us and George W Bush that comes from Värmland..

  • It all sounds very civilised.

  • Sweden FTW!

  • LOL, vad är det här?, what?!?! :>

  • GALENGODIS ,

  • I would love to do this! Seriously, it looks fun and the costumes and music. Also the one on one with the two men and theyre sort of play acting has a classic sense about it but at the same time is entertaining. Thank you, domramalaja!

  • drinksleepeatfilms,

As in many other countries, we have quite a few dances where men compete. They are supposed to show how skilled they are; have good balance, ability to make high jumps, to show strength and how lithesome they are.

Unfortunately, nowadays there are men who are afraid of being called 'gay' if they take dance lessons. I really loathe people who judge fellow human beings' sexuality.

  • fan vilka stollar alltså...

  • Stolligt, javisst!

^^ lol ^^

    HAHAH glad midsimmar Lol! ^^

  • It is really funny!!! =)

  • audreyhepburn256,

Yes, and very funny to dance too.

When I was working on my university diploma, I did a special study on the dance in the middle which is originally choreographed for the Opera ballet in the 1840s (for one couple). My aim was to re-construct it as it might have been danced. I took three sources, compared them, made a choreography based on my interpretation and received advice on the ballet expressions from one of the professors. That was a very interesting exercise.

  • Really??

Oh, I'm the worst dancer on the WORLD!!! But I like very much to see other people dancing.

In Madrid, people dance "Chotis" jajaja

    XXX

  • What a heathenish dance! xD

  • Hi there friends...have you listen to my song: "Midsommarafton"?

    Friendly

    Ulf Sawert. Sundsvall

  • Det är dansken som leker svenskar! :D

  • we dont usally dans like THIS here in sweden.. we just dance around the.. eum.. midsommarstång... not like THIS..

  • well we actually do, its a traditional swedish dance. maybe you didnt know.

  • Yes, we do! I have spent at least 15 midsummers with this type of dancing - and dressed in traditional costume.

  • Jeg tenker: "Ikea-Midsommar in Schweden - Directors Cut"...er bedre...myre typisk Svensk! Du ma se det her pa You Tube!!

  • rmcnnlly,

  • Looks like a grand time :)

  • hahahah! FAN VA DE!?! Något jävla Stalinskit där i mitten...hahahahah

  • mycket bra -

    det vill jag kalla kultur

    i den svala svenska sommaren

  • Wtf, what was that Slavic part in the middle? I've never seen it before, and I'm 100% Swede. :S

  • HAHAHA i saw 2 guys dancing

  • in Sweden we are not shy..

me might me the most homophobic country in the world...

    (i am straight)

  • Haha. Lär dig engelska. "me might me the most homophobic country in the world..."

  • Yeay!

  • Is this video from Häverö hembygdsgård?

  • coool^.^
