  • i didn't know that he died so "recently"!

i thought he died in the 70's

  • Samurai says guns are for pussies.

  • nice video thanks

  • yeah...it is just Yojimbo. didn't realy capture the scope of his works there did you. unless thats the one aspect of his films you did enjoy.

  • I love that scene from Yojimbo where he slices the two guys and cuts the other guys arm off, sheathes his sword and casually walks off,too badass for words.

  • Comment removed

  • so the last scene when he said "copper , two coffin , maybe three" thats the same idea as clint eastwood scene

  • @strbt

A fist full of dollars is a remake of yojimbo. that's why.

  • So they didn't use blood back in those days?

  • my dream is to become a movie director and kurosawa inspires me a lot

    best director ever!!!

  • el mejor director de cine de toddos los tiempos!

  • Bad man!!

  • One of my artistic hero...

  • Isn't their a line like that in the one of the Spaghetti Westerns "two coffins, no, mabey three." So good.

  • yes fist full of dollars w/ eastwood was an american remake of yojimbo

  • Just my own opinion, of course, but I'd say Kurosawa could easily be called the greatest film maker of all time.

    Definitely my fav.

  • @emfalcone ... and what about Bergman, Kubrick, Renoir, Houston, Fellini, Pasoline, Kaurismäki, Lean, Hitchcock,

Godard and Bunuel. Think about. YouTube is there for you.

  • @carsanookdotcom I like Boasty McNamedrops.

  • @carsanookdotcom

I could say Bergman and Fellini are in the same "rank" as Kurosawa.

    Kubrick and Hitchcock are overrated.

  • I hope we all realize that "ranking" filmmakers is amazingly arbitrary and meaningless. I mean, I love me some foreign films. Giving them ranks seems awfully pretentious.

  • @emfalcone My opinion as well.

  • Akira Kurosawa and Toshio Mifune were an awesome pair, i have the biography somewhere 'The Emperor and the Wolf'.

I really should watch they stuff more

  • the seven*

  • Ragnsrok6664:

    Yes, 7...

5 samurais had died even before the movie started. ^_^

  • ah, Yojimbo the bodyguard is my favorite among the three films, the twelve samuraj is very good as well..or honestly they're all very well made I cant just pick one or two :))

  • the greatest director of all time

  • nome da musica ??

  • You can run through this excellently done clip and name the scenes later cited or better, used by other filmmakers: The boy he spared - Tarantino, the cut off arm - Lucas, the show-down - Leone ...

  • You should rather have called it "Yojimbo tribute"

  • @MrRoekkum Its more than just Yojimbo

  • What's the name of the song? It's very good.

  • WOW, this is GREAT...thank you!

Kurosawa & Mifune would be proud....

anyone know anything about a new movie called "tokyo"? i'm curious, but don't know enough details.....

  • Toshiro Mifune!

  • "Hidden Fortress" kick ass!

    Makabe Rokurouta/Mifune - Han Solo

    Princess Yuki - Princess Leia

    Tahei - R2-D2

    Matashichi - C-3PO

youll love it and if you do, you will want to watch it again and again and again.......

  • Rukorota - Obi Wan?

  • hmm, i dont think Obi-wans character matches with Rokurota, --his boldness, mascurinity and rather arrogant character doesnt apply to Obi-wans more discreet ones. well, you might be right both men share the skill with sword and unweavering royality, but Obi-wan is Lucas s creation, i guess?

  • Ah, mascurinity.

  • well yeah, Obi Wan is Lucas' creation, but he was obviously influenced by these films, as he said so himself. Jedi themselves are based on Samurai, so I bet there are a lot of similarities.

  • @shieldforumJim Not just that, Lucas admitted to copying a lot from Kurosawa.

Try watching the bonus features on the DVD of Kagemusha, you get an actual interview of Lucas saying that the two characters:R2 and C3PO were directly related to the two peasant characters in the Hidden Fortress

  • @Trenidor I remember reading that somewhere. And it really shows when you watch SW again. The entire story is seen through the eyes of the 2 weakest characters in the story, just like in the Hidden Fortress.

  • this video has nothing to do with Hidden Fortress.

These are all clips from Yojimbo.

  • @osakagal08x Finally, someone who realizes that Rokurouta isn't obi-wan but is Han Solo

  • @Trenidor actually, obi-wan is based on Makabe. Lucas was actually thinking about casting Mifune as Obi-wan.

  • Really a great tribute!

    Thank you!

  • kurosawa is GOD

  • YOJIMBO!!

  • WOW Great tribute!!!

  • Remembering Akira Kurosawa 10 years after his death.

  • Yes! Oh my god- it has been 10 years - WOW

  • What's the song?

  • I love it when he stops to think for a moment. :)

  • Kurosawa is the GOD of movie!

  • Love the music!

  • SI!!!! sei un grande!!

Thanks! Kurosawa is the man! BAD ASS CINEMA!

  • great video for one of the greatest filmmaker of cinema history.tHANKS A LOT;

ps/ WHAT IS THE TITLE OF THE MUSIC

  • anyone know the song to this clip?

  • Anyone who make a tribute to Akira Kurosawa is alright in my book. My personal favorites:

    Yojimbo

    Red Beard

    7 Samurai

Roshomon (is a masterpiece that should be seen by everyone.)

    Dreams

    Kagemusha

    Dersu Uzala...

Tatsuya Nakadai (gun-toting villian in Yojimbo, King in Ran) is still alive and you can see many of his interviews on walking out of the burning Castle in Ran etc. by seeing Kurosawa's films out of the Criterion Collection.

  • Yoyu should view THRONE OF BLOOD. That is another superb Kurosawa Akira film!

  • Certainly is and I own it!

  • I'm becoming convinced though that if you like that kind of movie which makes you think (as most of Kurosawa's do) Rashomon tops them all.

It may or may not be Kurosawa's best film, but it is definately a film worth recognizing.

If I come up with the money to buy it I'll make a mash-up of it for you guys. If you haven't seen it, I would definately recommend getting on the waiting list at your local video store (where I live there were like 10 people in line in front of me for it)

  • No the film he made that makes you think the most is Ikiru, that film is the very definative of the words perfection in character film making.

  • anyone ever seen the fiom noir Kurosawa did??? Pretty good...

  • Most of Kurosawa's work could be considered Film Noir based on the criteria they use to describe the genere.

If you're refering to "Stray Dog" however (the one most people think of when you combine noir and kurosawa)...Yes, it is a good film. Also, "The Bad Sleep Well" is good as far as noir.

  • this is not a tribute. but the vids compilation is fine

  • How do you classify a tribute and maybe my next piece of work will suit your expectations...

For me, a tribute is something people come back to and realize, in awe, how great a person was or is. In this case, I feel I have done a good job: people watch this video and comment on Mifune and Kurosawa's skill. There is a realization of greatness in watching these.

  • yeah man... do u have all kurosawa's film on dvd? damn they are expensive. mine i bought if from chinese store (i think u know what i mean)

  • The Man which Toshiro Mifune threw a dagger in the arm was Tetsuya Nakadai who would later team up with Kurosawa on "Kagemusha" and "Ran" portraying equally great and diverse roles. "Ran" one of Kurosawa's ultimate best (besides Seven Samurai of course.)

  • Great tribute , although I like seven samurais a bit more than yojimbo.

    What's the song called?

  • What a great producer!!!!

  • uh..director.

  • "Yojimbo", what a great movie!! (I posted some shots of its sequel "Sanjuro").

Kurosawa and Mifune made the best japanese cinema together. Nowadays, artists like Kitano and Yamada keep on that artistic way.

  • Yes Kitano has Got a beutifull way of filmaking which is unique to the degree that he uses facial expressions and human emotions more the tongue

  • SoujiroOkita : I like Kitano's humor and of course it's really prevalent in the film Kikujiro. He's also a huge comedic TV actor in Japan. Surprising contrast to his usual roles as a gangster.

  • Cool contemporary mashup..

  • Advice to would-be hero samurai: when outnumbered, don't just slash: run, weave and slash. Thanks for the compilation!

  • thanx

  • yojimbo rocks, but check out the sequal, sanjuro. or obviously seven samurai or his version of Macbeth, Throne of blood, i could go on...

  • tsubaki sanjyurou?

  • Never bring a gun to a sword fight, if you havent seen it see Red Sun, it's not Kurosawa but Mifune is as always up to par in his performance.

  • thanks for sharing this. its beyond any comments.

  • that's the first time I've seen Mifune as somebody who isn't a desheveled drunkard. I really need to see more kurosawa films.

  • You should see Kurosawas Yojimbo.

With out a doubt, the best film I've ever seen.

  • Thanks for the Yojimbo compilation

  • MIFUNE IS VERY COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks a lot for your uoloading.
