This isn't to say that Reagan was out of his mind with Dementia, however there is compelling evidence that the early symptoms of Alzheimer's were beginning to take place.

Reagan was very effective no doubt. He maximized white support by appealing the fears and anxiety white Southerners felt about integration and civil rights. He maximized support among white ethnic voters in the rust belt region and suburbs of the big cities and pitted them against minorities. immigrants, and secular minded people. It was a good strategy all in the name of small government and so called freedom. I see aspects of Reaganism in the Tea Party today.
