I hate the part at 0:22 where Kenobi doesn't even flinch or react to Grievous's flourish as if nothing happened. It's such a horrible error of CGI because you can tell Ewen doesn't know what the fuck he's looking at.
People will never learn that arrogance is a weakness. Grievous could have just had his men shoot obiwan and it would have been all over for the galaxy.

Goddamn it George Lucas, he had 4 goddamn Lightsabers. Couldn't you have made the duel at least a little more dramatically badass?
@Killzoneguy117 "Greivous had the potential to be such a a badass."
Yeah. When I saw the pics before the movie I thought he was going to be Darth Maul squared or something, but he's practically comic relief for all his boasting.
Count Dooku might've done better training C-3PO in the Jedi Arts.
Another badly shot mess, flailing sabers everywhere and absolutely no reason to care about what is going on. The big bad villain gets effortlessly schooled, Obi-Wan looks like a cocky idiot, Grievous looks like a moron, the dialogue is Thudercats-level bad, and the whole thing looks as cartoony and fake as it actually is. No tension, no suspense, just flashing lights and noise.
@sucker1999 Grievous was a powerful Kaleesh, Dooku blew up his ship and then had him transformed into a cyborg. after Grievous was killed someone used his body for another droid.

@shoryuken202 I thought even Yoda said that Count Dooku was his best student. Hum. I don't recall, but I'm pretty sure Dooku is indeed the best duelist.
the only reason why grievous lost the way he did was becouse in the first clone wars series mace windu crushed his chest. now type in the battle of hypori and tell me if obi wan could have won there..............................
After how hard I keep on hearing people say Grevious is in the video games, I expected there to be a more a fight here. Oh well, I suppose some of that is due Obi-Wan's style of fighting defensively rather then going in head on was a big contributed. Anakin would have had more trouble since he goes in head on, not something one wants to do when an enemy has 4 lightsabers.
1:18 notice how through the film they use the main characters saber designs with other characters? you can see Anakin's saber here and Obi wan's during this scene aswell, sidious also uses Anakin's design when he faces windu
@gamestar92 Actually Sith lightsabers are manufactured en masse, that's the reason for the red color, it's the only color they can get with synthetic crystals.
actually, the only reason that obi wan won was because he uses a style that focuses only on defence. obi wan guarded himself very well, and left to open spaces where greivous could attack.
The Jedi Council had a long meeting about who they should send to take on Grievous, since he'd proven to be such a problem for them. It seemed like they got real bored in this movie; "oh forget it, they're brain dead anyway, let us just half ass the movie and fight scenes" Just had to express that.
If I recall correctly, Speilberg actually helped out in storyboarding this fight sequence and it was actually an entire duel, not Grievous twirling his lightsabers like a cheer leader then getting maimed and finally scorched to death. It was supposed to me more epic but Lucas, great move, decided he didn't want it to be as epic and decided he wanted to leave all the major fight for the end duel between Obiwan and Anakin. Stupid move indeed.
True, but Grievous is certainly no pushover in a battle....fighting Kenobi "physically" was abit tough for Kenobi (well considerin' the Kaleesh General's a cyborg) oh well-hats off to Kenobi....Alas Poor Grievous
Not to mention that Grievous only had 3 years at most of training. He doesn't have the lifelong saber experience that Jedi's have. That's why he needed four sabers, to try to counter quality with quantity.
Why did GG have to be trained like a Jedi? With that mechanical body he can spin sabers faster than any normal person and can do obscenely unfair moves with four swords at once. He doesn't need training in styles.
you underestimate the Jedi skills. without proper trainging, GG wouldn't be able to use the lightsabers as efficiency as he did now, and the trainging helped him see the weakness in the different styles that the jedi use.
grievous' overall fighting ability was utterly halved when his chest was crushed by Mace in the clone war series. If not for that, grievous probably woulda pwned obi-wan here.
I disagree. After watching this fight numerous times, I noticed that Grevous' lightsabers got in the way of eachother. His immediate circle was too crowded to mount an efficient attack, whereas Obiwan could launch pointed strikes with his single saber. Notice how Grievous became more challenging as he lost lightsabers?
Plus in the Clone Wars, the crushed chest only affected his breathing, not his fighting prowess.
No. Grievous couldn't use that style of flipping and acrobatics he used in Clone Wars after the lung crushing. Also, if Obi-Wan IS stronger than the Grievous in the Clone Wars, then he'd win a fight against Shaak Ti, Ki-Adi Mundi, Aayla Secura, and 2 Padawans easily.
There's no proof to suggest that Grievous couldn't fight at the same level. He had no difficulty moving at any point during the movie or when fighting Obi-Wan. The only thing the lung crushing demonstrated it did was make him cough from time to time.
And this isn't Dragonball Z. Obi Wan didn't need to be "stronger" than anyone. It's all about technique, style, and experience. Mace Windu was weaker in the force than Yoda, but beat Sidious.
False. George Lucas himself settled this. Mace Windu won that fight. During Vaapad, the Dark Side becomes useless against the user. Mace Windu was using a saber style Sidious had never encountered, and thus had the advantage.
The only part that Sidious was faking was the "weakness" part. He was lying when he said he was too weak to fire any more lightning. But he did not throw the light saber fight. That's Sidious fanboys run amok. Sidious did not plan to get kicked in the face.
Also note, that multiple lightsaber users taking on the same opponent doesn't give you the advantage you'd think. As in any fight, too many people tend to get in each other's way, and you try to make sure you don't accidently hurt your "party member".
When it's just one on one, you can fight freely and without any kind of constraint. Obi-Wan had that benefit. Ki-Adi Mundi and co did not. And I know personally it is MUCH easier to fight by yourself than with several people's help.
And let's not forget that Anakin cleared the entire Jedi temple, including Cin Drallig. And Obi-Wan won against Anakin.
It's not always so clear cut as to who beat who. The individual circumstances also influence the outcome. Like I said, this is Star Wars, not DBZ. There is no "stronger" than so and so. Padawan Obi-Wan was "weaker" than Qui Gon, who was at master level, and yet Qui Gon lost against Maul.
Grievous, born as Qymaen jai Sheelal, was the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems for most of the Clone Wars. Born a Kaleesh, Grievous was a warlord on his homeworld, Kalee, in his people's war against the Huk. He was later transformed into a cyborg after a shuttle crash, becoming a fusion of a Krath war droid's robotic structure and his own organic brain. Later he became Dooku´s apprentice.
What never really sold me on Grievous was that he had no knowlege of the force. I allways saw Jedi's and Sith's as such formidable duelists because of their force enhanced intuition almost allowing them to pre-empt their opposition moves and they themselves do limmited concious thinking within the fight, letting the force do much of it. So yeah, just my two cents as to why this battle never really compared to other ones for me.
Obi wan is at the peak of his powers here in ROTS - in Matt Stovers novel of the film the other jedi masters decide to send obi wan against grievous as his sabre style is the best out of the lot to go up against grevious's multi pronged attack - apparently all jedi learn a style called Soresu which is a basic defense style to use against swarms of blaster fire and projectile weapons - in the book Obi wan is acknowledged by windu and yoda as 'The' master of this style and is thus perfect.
I totally agree. This was a very unrealistic battle. 4 lightsabers against 1?? All Grievous did was swing the other lightsabers around while attacking with maybe 1 or 2? Grievous would have slaughtered Kenobi.
A gun beats a sword any day too, but jedi's can take 20 droids at once just as easy as beating a four armed mechanic lizard.. Grievous has no affiliation with the force even though he's trained by Dooku.. Federer can teach me to play tennis as long as he wants, I wouldn't win wimbledon.. Ever..
Yeah, a gun beats a sword. If my memory serves me correctly, though, there was no gun in the beginning when Obi Wan, with his single lightsaber, was taking on Grievous and his 4 lightsabers, now was there?? So that invalidates your point. Oh, snap!
Grievous has great training, Obi-Wan just has the best style suited to facing a multi armed opponent. All the other Jedi that got killed or injured by Grievous were attacking him, Kenobi is only attacking when he cuts his hands off. All the other time he is defending and thus leaves no opening to be cut by any of his lightsabers. Kenobi, Windu,Yoda, maybe Anakin, are probably the only jedi's in the order at this time that could beat Grevious. Maybe Cin Darllig, but that's not movie stuff.
Actually, Kenobi is only disarming him, since cutting off your opponents weapon hand is considered disarming to Jedi. So, aside from the force push, Kenobi doesn't attack grievous the whole battle till he shoots him at the end.
It wasn't that Grievous was weak; Obi-Wan just knew what he was doing, unlike the other Jedi before him.
1. Obi-Wan knew (unlike the Jedi from the TV series) that simply charging in waving his lightsaber over his head would've gotten him killed. Notice how Kenobi mainly sticks to a defensive style? He lets Grievous do most of the attacking.
2. Obi-Wan's fighting style was best for fighting off multiple attacks at once (perfect for fighting Grevious).
3. Grievous' four-lightsaber style seems to be more of a visual intimidation than anything else; meant to make the opponent feel as if he's fucked. But Obi-Wan, being smart, knew that Grievous couldn't attack with all four lightsabers at once, because then Grievous might accidentally hit himself, or the other lightsabers would get in the way.
You can't really say this fight sucks simply because Obi-Wan decides to use his brain.
Grevious was a beast before his injury from Windu

When I saw that he had 4 arms and 4 lightsabers, I was like "Oh, Shit!"
sspdirect02 3 years ago 6
Why did GG have to be trained like a Jedi? With that mechanical body he can spin sabers faster than any normal person and can do obscenely unfair moves with four swords at once. He doesn't need training in styles.
AtenRa 3 years ago
you underestimate the Jedi skills. without proper trainging, GG wouldn't be able to use the lightsabers as efficiency as he did now, and the trainging helped him see the weakness in the different styles that the jedi use.
voldemortlover66 2 years ago
grievous' overall fighting ability was utterly halved when his chest was crushed by Mace in the clone war series. If not for that, grievous probably woulda pwned obi-wan here.
TheRedFlash67 3 years ago
Plus in the Clone Wars, the crushed chest only affected his breathing, not his fighting prowess.
zatenks 3 years ago 2
AxelReviews 3 years ago
There's no proof to suggest that Grievous couldn't fight at the same level. He had no difficulty moving at any point during the movie or when fighting Obi-Wan. The only thing the lung crushing demonstrated it did was make him cough from time to time.
And this isn't Dragonball Z. Obi Wan didn't need to be "stronger" than anyone. It's all about technique, style, and experience. Mace Windu was weaker in the force than Yoda, but beat Sidious.
zatenks 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
he actually didnt beat sidius, sidius could have killed mace on the spot.if u have questions, ask me.
lineridermatt12 3 years ago
Sidious did not plan to get kicked in the face.

george lucas also said that nobody but anakin could defeat palaptine u cant believe what he says he contradicts himself all the time
puddingzombie 2 years ago
@zatenks About the crystals, yes that is true because different crystals have
different effects on their lightsabers. They also mean different things I think.
tyty4da 1 year ago
again palpatine feigned defeat yoda was a better duelist then windu and he couldnt defeat palpatine
puddingzombie 2 years ago
Also note, that multiple lightsaber users taking on the same opponent doesn't give you the advantage you'd think. As in any fight, too many people tend to get in each other's way, and you try to make sure you don't accidently hurt your "party member".
When it's just one on one, you can fight freely and without any kind of constraint. Obi-Wan had that benefit. Ki-Adi Mundi and co did not. And I know personally it is MUCH easier to fight by yourself than with several people's help.
zatenks 3 years ago
And let's not forget that Anakin cleared the entire Jedi temple, including Cin Drallig. And Obi-Wan won against Anakin.
It's not always so clear cut as to who beat who. The individual circumstances also influence the outcome. Like I said, this is Star Wars, not DBZ. There is no "stronger" than so and so. Padawan Obi-Wan was "weaker" than Qui Gon, who was at master level, and yet Qui Gon lost against Maul.
You've got to take everything into account.

no he was a some sort of life form that "chose" to be rebuilt as a droid or robot whatever you call it

No. He still has his own eyes, organs, and brain so he is more of a cyborg.

can someone please tell me the back story behind grevious like how he got all like a robot and stuff
jgrosse5554 3 years ago
Grievous, born as Qymaen jai Sheelal, was the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems for most of the Clone Wars. Born a Kaleesh, Grievous was a warlord on his homeworld, Kalee, in his people's war against the Huk. He was later transformed into a cyborg after a shuttle crash, becoming a fusion of a Krath war droid's robotic structure and his own organic brain. Later he became Dooku´s apprentice.
urukaj 3 years ago 2
What never really sold me on Grievous was that he had no knowlege of the force. I allways saw Jedi's and Sith's as such formidable duelists because of their force enhanced intuition almost allowing them to pre-empt their opposition moves and they themselves do limmited concious thinking within the fight, letting the force do much of it. So yeah, just my two cents as to why this battle never really compared to other ones for me.

Grievous had 2 die so easly. The Battle could have been longer

Obi wan is at the peak of his powers here in ROTS - in Matt Stovers novel of the film the other jedi masters decide to send obi wan against grievous as his sabre style is the best out of the lot to go up against grevious's multi pronged attack - apparently all jedi learn a style called Soresu which is a basic defense style to use against swarms of blaster fire and projectile weapons - in the book Obi wan is acknowledged by windu and yoda as 'The' master of this style and is thus perfect.

funny how Kenobi could pwn Grievous but not Dooku who taught Grievous, its like boxing style make fights

dang i would've been sliced the first few seconds of that fight

there is now way obi won won in this duel
i mean cmon 4 lightsabers???? at once vs 1.
jesus is it me or grevious needs more training
rofl. well i did hear lucas said that he didnt want grevious to be powerful he wanted someone that has that cowardness.
SoulsSave 3 years ago
I totally agree. This was a very unrealistic battle. 4 lightsabers against 1?? All Grievous did was swing the other lightsabers around while attacking with maybe 1 or 2? Grievous would have slaughtered Kenobi.
MystikWizard 3 years ago
A gun beats a sword any day too, but jedi's can take 20 droids at once just as easy as beating a four armed mechanic lizard.. Grievous has no affiliation with the force even though he's trained by Dooku.. Federer can teach me to play tennis as long as he wants, I wouldn't win wimbledon.. Ever..
LennoxLewis86 3 years ago
Yeah, a gun beats a sword. If my memory serves me correctly, though, there was no gun in the beginning when Obi Wan, with his single lightsaber, was taking on Grievous and his 4 lightsabers, now was there?? So that invalidates your point. Oh, snap!
MystikWizard 3 years ago
lol. mystik's an idiot. I see what you're saying Lennox.
The movie has different rules than reality.
Get over it .
ricksexyy 3 years ago
Grievous has great training, Obi-Wan just has the best style suited to facing a multi armed opponent. All the other Jedi that got killed or injured by Grievous were attacking him, Kenobi is only attacking when he cuts his hands off. All the other time he is defending and thus leaves no opening to be cut by any of his lightsabers. Kenobi, Windu,Yoda, maybe Anakin, are probably the only jedi's in the order at this time that could beat Grevious. Maybe Cin Darllig, but that's not movie stuff.
Nacthem 3 years ago 3
obi wan uses a defensive style, and that left no openings for grievous to attack,
voldemortlover66 2 years ago
Actually, Kenobi is only disarming him, since cutting off your opponents weapon hand is considered disarming to Jedi. So, aside from the force push, Kenobi doesn't attack grievous the whole battle till he shoots him at the end.
Nacthem 3 years ago
YOuk now what? I have to give Lucas the credit on this one. Ewan does have some charm, it gives obi-wan some attractiveness.

grevous looks weak in this movie, but godly in the cartoon series
darkroguetribune97 3 years ago 2
Truth.
athanasiadis24 3 years ago
@darkroguetribune97
2. Obi-Wan's fighting style was best for fighting off multiple attacks at once (perfect for fighting Grevious).
pinheadman665 6 months ago
@darkroguetribune97
You can't really say this fight sucks simply because Obi-Wan decides to use his brain.
pinheadman665 6 months ago
If Grievous wasn't weakened by Windu, Grievous probably might've won.
ryumancer 3 years ago
When did Grievous get weakened by Windu?
JDRhoads07 3 years ago
In the animated Clone Wars series. Windu used Force Crush on Grievous's chest, weakening him greatly.
