The song was done as the film was being finished. They made a mad dash attempt to animate it to see if it could be fit into the film but the result was considered substandard and wasn't used. A producer who was pushed aside when the film was being made, gained control of the film- a few years back-when it was reissued on DVD. He reinvented the film -splicing in the sequence and changing the film's ending.

Reactionary right in America decided what was subversive and what was acceptable and censored accordingly. And despite public support over there the Beatles(Lennon particularly) were often censured. The original print of Yellow submarine didn't have this animation as part of the movie. My girlfriend has the DVD and this is an added scene, I had it on VHS and it wasn't the special edition and lacked this vid. Great Song, solid album.

The new box version of Yellow submarine does have it (it's blue background is how you can identify it) but that sequence before the song really blew my mind knowing the original US clipped version like the back of my hand. It's Removed Baby you're a rich man in place of nine extra minutes.

This song was in the film when it was originally released in Britain. The american version had it cut out. I don't know if the entire version has been released on DVD or not. I've seen the film twice, once at a midnight showing at a theater and once on VHS years ago.

Interesting. The 'Hey Bulldog' sequence is cut out of the version of the film I have so it's nice to finally be able to see it. I only have a [very old] copy of it on VHS so hopefully this is on the DVD version of Yellow Submarine.

It's nice to see the bulldog creature get its own musical sequence because you only ever get to see it breifly in the movie otherwise. Very cute, thank you for posting it.
