Used your video to replace to tear apart my wii. Then instead of just replacing the whole DVD drive, I looked at another video to replace the laser head. It was super easy, worked like a charm and saved me $60 bucks. It is criminal what Nintendo wants to charge for that. Next time I' ll buy my parts from Console Zombie. Thanks guys.

Words of wisdom: Never use magnetic screwdrivers when working with computers or consoles. Sure, the danger really only applies to magnetic disks, but you can never be too careful.

My Wii had problems playing SSBB and the SD card slot was broken. So I gave it to my dad to get it fixed, but he didn't send it to Nintendo. When I got it back ALL OF MY MEMORY WAS GONE! The memory data, the channels, even my Wii Shop Channel account was deleted! I've looked on the internet about these problems and I haven't heard a thing about losing memory when getting the Wii fixed for these problems. Does anyone know about this, like if I can get it back or if it's the fault of the company?

I noticed that you removed the battery from the Wii. Does that mean that all my saved games will go away? Or is it just the clock that resets?

@9a3eedi clock resets. data is fine. you need to remove that to get the screw underneath so if it did cause problems it'd seriously screw you over.

Is there some reason there's no mention of the various DVD models or their compatibility with the various Wii console models? The "universal" replacement in your store was added to the catalog in 2008 and still no reviews. Why pay as much as $80 more for the tools, part(s), shipping & time with no guarantee of a fix instead of just buying brand new Wii? Do not use on D2C2, D2E or basically any Wii manufactured May, 2008 or later. Search "Wii Drivechip Issues," see for yourself.

NEVER EVER MOD YOUR WII OK! 1 month ago i moded my wii by software,the the modification made my wii fan to stop cooling the wii.My wii turn off itself 5 or 6 for overheating,then the overheating make the dvd drive to die.Then I called nintendo without warranty and send them the 85$(i formatted the system memory to leave no trace of homebrew)they scanned my wii and the found hb.The wii came back with no repair and 65$!!THAT WAS THE WORST DAY Of MY LIFE! but i will buy a new dvd drive and do this.

when i insert a disc like donkey kong country returns it works fine for like 6 minutes and says an error has ocurred please eject the disc and turn the power off. do i have to then replace the laser or get a new disc drive send it to nintendo or buy a new wii

My Wii's disc drive recently died and i was undecided whether i'd install USBloader, or replace the drive. I just found out that with v4.3E I won't be able to mod the wii unless i go through a really specific and annoying process so im going to just replace the drive.

I just bought the screwdriver i'm missing off the site mentioned in the description and notice they seem to no longer have DVD drives for sale. Are they just temporarily out of stock, or will i need to look elsewhere?

well, question my drive the sensor that picks up when a disk is put in still work but it wont grab the disk and the motor doesnt spin what could bu the problem?

just hack it and you wont need a dvd drive at all i play all my games from the usb and watch movies from a hard drive also

@ ConsoleZombie My wii the drive works with WII disks, but when I put in a Gamecube disk it does not set " if I pick put the Wii and shake it I can hear the disk sliding from side to side. How can I fix?

@bunnybrat2 Nintendo's fault for using a shitty disk drive in the first place, they even acknowledged that older launch models may have trouble reading duel layer disks ( like mine) then have the nerve to charge you £100 to fix it.

@ConsoleZombie true. Linda once stuck a cookie inside the disk drive and i had to take apart the disk drive and take out the cookie.

@wingzerox5 Tap the top of the drive, near the mouth. Mine does that too, it means to motor is going out. If you tap it and it doesnt go in, then yea, theres prolly something in there, lol

Sounds like the laser is on the way out.

A laser problem is more likely to show with crappy media you're probably using to burn your games. At least that's my educated guess.

hi this is the problem: When i put my wii disc in it shows on the channel what game it is but when i press on it it says cant be read and the only button that i can press on the wii is the eject button the others dont work at that time (i have to pull it out of the plug)but if i put a gamecube disc in it reads it and i can play it. Can you help me?

em...what if i turn on the wii without the white cover to see whats the problem with the disc drive?

in my wii just hear the initial crack-like sound when u put the disc but it doesnt hear the wii reading the disc. is that the same as the others or it is something else??

Wear an anti-static wrist band when you do that. Do you hear three clicks after the disc goes into the drive?
