She was so worried about covering the cake that she didn't see that the buttercream did not cover the cake 100 %. If I needee a decorated cake I would not buy one from her.
This is definitely a bad example of icing a cake . Very sloppy and if you teach sloppy you get sloppy results with your students because they were not taught proper technique or handling.
Wow thats a lot of icing which means a lot of sugar damn it this woman cant decorate she needs a bigger turn table and she is so sloppy and messy and rough
yeah that's funny, she doesn't have control of her cake..she keeps letting it slide around as she is working it..that's professional? Oh well as long as the customer is happy with the final outcome.
She may be a professional, but she's not showing it right now. She just needs to stop being so rough with the cake and stop being sloppy/messy. She's about to smash the spatula into the cake!!
i no this i only a draft copy of a cake shes showing but she still shud have forozen the cake first. looks realy soft to be putting thick icing on. still gud tho :-)
ok everyone stop....no one is at fault this woman does not know a thing when it comes to baking and sugar arts, what a damm mess....you should not have to press on your cake ....whats this icing made crisco, water and powder sugar YUCK....Nasty!
@31hunnybunch If you know a lot about it, can you please make a video of how to do it right? I'm trying to learn something about it because I'd love to try a Marine themed birthday cake for my dad. I had one professionally done for my mom, but I'd love to try one on my own this time.
Wow so many childish comments Lol.... Is that the only chance to make yourselves feel better by being bitchy about someone on the net.... Get a grip and if you don't like her than don't watch it.. Idiots!!
I can't believe how so many people can be rude and negative. Its a cake decorating example clip, no-one needs your negative comments about the womans weight or personal attributes. How dam rude! I think she explains things very well and quite informative. Thank you monkesee. Cheers - AC
I don't think you can beat the look of fondant/sugar paste to cover a cake. You can never really get butter cream perfect like you can with the rollable icings.
u don't have to say dumb ass to me i didnt say anything insulting to you so thats not cool,
anyway i got diabetes from my dad cuz of the genetic, its just telling if u eat this often its not good for your health a lot of kids and grown ups getting diabetes cuz of the sugar food and if u got diabtes i can tell its not so much fun so no hate just telling my opinion
@xXxd3liciousxXx You're correct in that too many sugary foods is bad. You can actually get type II diabetes from introducing too much cane sugar to your bloodstream too often. The insulin glands end up getting wacked out because they can't tell if the sugar is coming or going. My grandfather had it, and it tends to skip a generation, so I'm trying to watch it also. I don't eat sugary stuff every day, just on occasion. I prefer using a substitute. Most sugar is bleached also, which makes it worse
it would have been helpful if she put it in the freezer or refrigerator to firm it up before icing it.. that way the cake is less likely to "almost" break.
@babyschreuder, the first coating is the thin coat of icing to cover the crumbs. so for the second coating, she used thicker layer of icing. so yes, the second coating of the icing is the medium consistency. :)
I prefer to use a pastry bag and a quick icer to ice the base of the cake. With using this sometimes you don't have to crumb ice the cake because you're not applying the it with a spatula which is the easiest way to actually get crumbs to start crumbing up. The only time i use a spatula is SMOOTH the top of the cake, and to smooth the sides of the cake I use a flat cake decorating comb. It's a lot quicker and cleaner.
Best thing to do is to make your own if the kind you buy is too thin. Or you could try getting the icing that is too thin and adding powdered sugar to it and mixing it in. Just don't over beat it.
@tally4395 hi tally, to thicken your icing, use confectioner's sugar, start putting a little bit at a time, mix it and check the consistency of the icing, if the icing is still too thin, put more confectioner's sugar... If happens to be too hard, pour 1 teaspoon of water to thin it... Now, as information, the icing for the covering of cakes should be thin consistency, cause it will be too hard for you to distribute in on the cake.
i have a really easy sponge cake. 4 eggs 1/3 c. self raising flour 1/3 c. all purpose flour 1/3 c.cornstarch. 2/3 c. sugar 1. sift the flours ans corn starch 5x 2. Beat the eggs whole until triple in volume and add sugar.(just dump the sugar in the begging) 3. flod in the dry into the eggs 4. put in spring form pan and bake at 400 degrees (if u want a chocolate sponge just sift 1/4 cup of unsweetned cocoa powder to the dry ingredients
Yeah! I'm sure she realized it even before applying it to the cake, but her icing was too stiff and dry for someone else with less experience to attempt to frost a cake. The cake came out great though- even when doing a live demo.
She is a GREAT teacher and Baker. She even said herself she should of had a larger turn table. She is so good that shocked me also. But she knows what she is doing! Don't look at this one video and think otherwise
yeah i agree , the cake is like a sponge , is she a teacher? a bad one if so. her frosting is to hard aswell, this is not bad but it isnt good at all. dont freak on me i just say what i think.
I love your voice and you explain as you go real nice I think your icing is to stiff for what your video watches will ever find or make, if this for beginers then they need to see what "real" room temp. sloppy icing is gonna be like!
