@Dougolai have irland ever won the world cup, are they ever going to win anything, the same goes for scotland, wales, celtic nations on the edge of britain, irelevant people,,,,ENGLAND won the world cup 2003,,, you celts will never win anything. understand you thick irish twat.......
What an absolute load of shite. Stephen Jones is one of the best defensive 10s in the world. Only Carter is a better defender than him.
All the 'man up' comments are fucking pathetic. He got his head the wrong side in the tackle. It wasn't great technique, he was just trying to smash Foden in the opening minutes, and expected Foden to attack him on the outside, so he led with his right shoulder. He gets it wrong, and leads with his head.
Wilkinson is a much better defender than Jones, if we're talking 10s. I'm not saying that because I'm in the English "I love Johnny" brigade. But he is a better defender than Jones. He'd have flattened Foden there.
@nick260682 Absolutely, I'd agree actually. Not sure why I forgot about Wilkinson, perhaps because he wasn't starting. He is a very good defender, better than SJ, but even then, if you get a tackle wrong, no matter big a hit you can give, if you get your body position wrong like that, it often ends badly.
Nine times out of ten, SJ wraps him up there and puts him on the floor. He was never going to smash him, because Foden was going much faster, but still...no 'manning up' needed for Steve.
@somerandomer Look at the stats mate. England played Arg, Scot, Georg, Rom and France. Ended with a points difference of 96. Wales played Nam, Fiji, Sam, SA, Ireland, France and Aus. Ended with a points difference of 154. But you dou dont need those stats to see that Wales were by far the better team. Just face it, England crumbled.
@JustinRSoles I agree that Wales were the better team (though not by nearly as much as people are saying), but my point was that England DID NOT crumble under pressure SEVERAL TIMES (as you said) - they only lost one game ffs.
If we're talking about crumbling under pressure, what about Wales' missed kicks vs France?
I don't want to have a go at Wales at all - it's just that your comment was obviously factually wrong.
@somerandomer England consistantly underperformed. They never looked like a team that could challenge the best in the world. Look at the teams they played in their pool, they should have put them all away comfortably. Then they get knocked out by a French side that didnt really even arrive in the tournament until the final. Ok, the pressure might have got to the welsh kickers but they were still better than Jonny. And besides, Im talking about the teams as a whole. England crumbled. Fact.
@somerandomer Underperforming when the stakes are high.. i.e in a WC.. Call it crumbling, choking, whatever you want. The point is they didnt stand up and be counted when their country needed them to.
@JustinRSoles and wales did? they couldnt finish off a dreadful french side. france were even worse than when england played them. the game should have been won despite warburton being sent off
@eddyd63 Neither side got a result against the french. The difference is Wales were the better team, even with 14 men. And were a bit unlucky (narrowly missed kicks and a debatable red card). England however, got outplayed by that same poor french side and never looked like a team capable of challenging for the trophy. Be honest, you know Im right.
@JustinRSoles im not denying that wales came out of it looking better but a loss is a loss, and france were far more attack minded against england than against wales. they were just sending bombs up against wales to keep their lead. i think that right now wales are a better side than england, no doubt, however pressure is pressure and at the end of the day, wales crumbled as much as england did when it really mattered. wales were the better team and should have won
@eddyd63 You can say France were more attack minded against England, but I would argue that Wales' defence was simply better than Englands, even with 14 men and France were aware of that. England repeatedly underperformed, Wales consistently played good rugby. They fought hard and battled to the end in that semi even when the odds were stacked against them. Yes, they came up just short. But you cant seriously believe that classes as 'crumbling'.
@JustinRSoles i agree that wales played more attack minded and positive rugby, however i find it pretty crazy that you can say that while one was crumbling and cracking under the pressure, the other was losing playing well. wales didnt play well in that match against france as they should have won the game. the reason why englands is classed as 'crumbling' is because it was in the knock out stages of a world cup. if it hadnt been then it would be attributed to good play from france
@eddyd63 Its not crazy. Wales played well with 14 men and pushed France all the way. I dont see how you can say they played badly, all they did wrong was miss a couple of crucial kicks, overall they were good. England played poorly. But what I originally said was about who crumbled in the World Cup as a whole, not just who played better against France. England were a mess from start to finish both on and off the pitch. Wales exceeded all expectations. I really dont see your point.
@JustinRSoles my point is about pressure. england crumbled under pressure fair play and played badly, wales played well, but the fact they couldnt finish off that france game showed that they were unable to deal with the pressure as well. you seem to be taking this as me writing off the wales team which is totally wrong, they look very impressive at the moment, however if you talk of england crumbling under pressure, you can include wales in that as well, just in a different way
@eddyd63 I think we will have to agree to disagree on this because personally I see a huge difference in both the performances and the nature of the two teams defeats to France. In my eyes, the only people in a welsh shirt who looked like they could have crumbled under the pressure of the situation, were the kickers. Whereas in the England side it was a different story. A brave effort, against the odds and coming up just short isn't crumbling. But under-performing when it really matters is.
@JustinRSoles wales may have got one stage further than england but its unfair to say they crumbled, wales were just lucky to play france a week later than england did! if england had wales' pool, they would have been in the semi final. and England have a much better record at the world cup than wales, England have won 1nce, and been runners up twice. also England have the second best record at the 6 nations winning it 4 times, wales have won twice. fact
@jonafromwales For a country that takes Rugby as seriously as NZers Wales are shite. So please, remove that chip on your shoulder and resume your position as England's bitch

@JustinRSoles are you kidding me? while it is true that England are still finding their feet after the reshuffle (and by the way every team has off the field issues; i seem to remember Wales had its fair share several years ago and the world didn't jump down their throats), they still have a wealth of talent to offer a Lions team: Courtney Lawes, Manu Tuilagi, Chris Ashton, Dan Cole, Dylan Hartley to name a few
@Alroight Yeah Wales have had off the field problems, the difference is that theirs didnt all happen mid way through a WC.
