use your left hand to push your right elbow away, towards his face. if you're not strong enough to do that, i'd say just hang up yourself, bring your trapped arm across the other side and defend it from there.
Very good counter to the telephone defence. But that's not the proper way to go for an arm-triangle choke, your suppose to get on your toes and use your chest for extra pressure.
This one of the variations we do in 10th Planet (sprinter stance/knee on belly). There is nothing wrong with this variation. There is NOT just one way to get a head and arm choke.
Look up the Chimp and the Impaler in Mastering the Twister book...other great options.
You are right. I know there's no perfect method for a technique, I just meant in my opinion using the chest for extra pressure will require less strenght in getting a tapout.
I learned this from a Catch guy. The hang up is from 10thP. As for self defense, I would say that 10th Planet is more sport/mma focused. It does however include many of the same things found in BJJ. That is why I study JJJ for self defense.
Your videos are really excellent but just a suggestion to make them easier to view. Don't have your partner wear a black shirt because his arm (or leg in the case of pants) gets lost in shadow or against your own black shirt and it sometimes gets difficult to see the exact positioning of your limbs. It would be better if he wore gray, a light color, or was bare-armed.
We usually do this or at least try to have a contrast. It was an oversight with my black shoulders and his black shirt. Thanks for keeping us honest ;-)
aagh, YES! This will signify the return of the beloved arm triangle into my arsenal. I look forward to trying it on some of the bendy people and seeing if it opens up anything else.
Any (additional) tips on using this counter-counter from guard?
ari, are you ranked in the 10th planet system and have you trained under eddie? just wondering since you've been doing alot of 10th planet stuff for awhile now.
Some old school Gene Lebell stuff here.

I like the driving pressure with the knee...adds more for me ;-). We make jiu jitsu our own after all....its all good!

Everyone's an expert, right?
Considering the number of people I've personally seen go to sleep being choked in this same manner, I'd say it's pretty "proper."

Is this technique part of the 10thPJJ system or ?
I'm a BJJ purple but interested in 10thPJJ. What self-defense applications are there in this system, if any?
