@NYNewsWATCH Really this is not that old. It's the only thing they can use. The countdown however is brand new. Originally, the countdown was in a different font type, they would swing left and snap back each change of the number (it was still 5 down to 1), and there was a kind of ring around the globe graphic, rotating clockwise around it. At 1 second, the ring was removed outward, and the globe would start to rotate. The camera pulled out and everything else happened as usual. Good video too!!
Yeah, it is extremly rare to see a countdown. I remember when this one aired. I also remember one on cbs during the late show back in 2003. At first I thought it was part of the program (it being letterman, of course) but it was breaking news about al quada. I notice it only occurs during national broadcast & not local or syndicated programming
Your not supposed to see the ABC Countdown, It's supposed to be for the Master Control Operator to switch back to network feed from commercial or other programming, I worked at an ABC Station and I saw this for myself.
It's a toss up between ABC and NBC intros...NBC's intro makes it seem very serious . ABC's makes it seem that it is highly informative and urgent. I like both! But I am more of a Brian Williams fan than Diane Sawyer...
I just saw the new ABC News Special Report with Diane Sawyer, I was watching James Oliver's Food Revolution when it broke in about the Health Reform being pass.
nbc has the best countdown, this countdown seems more friendly to the control room. and i am quite surprised that abc news and nbc news countdowns were aired on a O&O, a very rare sight for me.

Thanks for uploading this. NBC and CBS didn't even have a special report of this on. Just on the news.

Never seen the countdown for ABC. NBC definitely has the best graphics and music though. Horrible story however.
