  • Its Mordecai From Regular Show!!!!!

  • @furglpswebkinz - Yes, exactly! Oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  • @furglpswebkinz Its actually Iacedrom, and he absolutely abhors speeches!

  • Hey, great video and music!!!... l would like to know what kind of recorder you used.

  • @juanc6600 - Thank you very much! :) Do you mean what kind of camera I used to shoot the video? This was recorded on a Sony DCR-VX2000 miniDV camcorder perched on top of a Bescor MP-101 motorized panhead, edited in FInal Cut Pro 5 and the music was created in Soundtrack Pro.

  • today i hard a noise outside, i looked through the window down to the ground but i didnt see anything, i looked up and there was a blue jay on the fence, it was very pretty.

  • @HoverboardFan14 - Ah, very cool! They are beautiful birds - noisy, but beautiful!

  • @taburineagle yes they are, lol that was almost a month ago XD when it saw me it flew away :/

  • we have blue jays eating our sunflowers last i counted their were at least eight

  • @natural4lifemiss - Interesting, I wasn't aware that sunflowers (or sunflower seeds) attracted them, they do seem to like peanuts, but I'm not sure if that's as nutritious as sunflower seeds would be for them.

  • @taburineagle well i guess they like sunflower seeds they ate all of ours not sure of the nutrient value for a bluejay but they are good for humans lol btw we did plant them for our use not the bluejays lol i wish i had gotten it on camera it was really funny to watch them land on the flowers up side down and eat next year i hope they come back so i can record them in action

  • Who wrote and performed the music, it was wonderful!

  • @budgienation - Thank you for saying so! I actually composed the song, using samples from Soundtrack Pro. It's got quite a few orchestral recording snippets to choose from, I took about 30 of them and about 3 hours and just worked with it until I had a song that fit the video.

  • Awesome Shot! Music works great with it...

  • @PanGraphX - Thanks! I composed the music too :)

  • Wonderful video, watching birds build nests is fascinating

  • @driewe - Thanks! I think so too, I recorded a few shots of doves tending to a nest too, but sadly they weren't successful - they knocked the eggs out of the nest - :(

  • Such a great video. I love the close ups. You can see their beautiful faces. Thank you so much. You brighten up my night.

  • @LanaV6 - That's so nice of you to say so, I'm glad you liked it! :) Sorry for the late reply, I've gotten kind of behind on YouTube related things lately due to work...

  • @taburineagle Don't worry about getting back to me. I enjoy your vid's and just want you to know that. ;o)

  • @LanaV6 - Awesome, thank you very much! :)

  • awesome video

  • @Ferddie2009 - Thank you very much!

  • What music did you put to this?

  • @strawbiter86 - A song I created myself in Soundtrack Pro. Mainly differing orchestral samples and a few little tweaks here and there.

  • To me, the sound of the Blue Jay (especially in the morning) is so distinctive.

What's the best thing to feed them? I would like to see Blue Jays perch on my balcony at my cottage but I just get alot of crows. I don't think I've ever seen a Blue Jay perch on my balcony :/

It'd be awesome to have a Blue Jay feeder haha

  • @nddlj - It would, I love them too - :) They do like peanuts, but a lot of birds (and squirrels, chipmunks, etc.) also do - a good birdseed blend (the one with cherries, etc.) seems to attract them also, so it's more of a trial and error thing.

Crows, huh? I would *loooove* to have more crows here - I did have a "crow feeder" a few years back - :)

  • Thanks for the video, these birds are very beautiful and I like the music also, very relaxing. To the person what said the backyard was crappy, well you've got to be kidding, what a dumb comment to make you must be of low intelligence.

  • Great footage of the two birds. However, you've got a crappy looking back yard, but I suppose that it was good hunting for the birds, to find the nesting materials.

  • @Sharoyuken36 - Crappiness is relative - :) I don't think it's that bad, I definitely would rather have a "crappy" looking yard that animals frequent often than a well manicured yard that people would freak every time a squirrel started chewing on "the precious grass" or something along those lines... Thanks though! The birds definitely had enough materials to use!

  • @Sharoyuken36 STOP OFFEBDING HIM YOU CANT DO ANY BETTER! HE AWESOME!

  • @Sharoyuken36 top offendin him lets e you do better!...he rocks!

  • I watched one grab a hummingbird from the air the other day and it perched on the tree branch near my window and ate it.

  • @visualvirtue - Really?? Wow! That's pretty hard-core! I wouldn't put it past them to do something like that (they tend to be parasitic when they have to be), but I've never seen them attacking other birds...

  • I always enjoy watching blue jays; they have such remarkable and complex behaviors, and a wide range of vocalizations. Very nice camera shots.

  • @thawkeye24 - Thank you! They do, it's interesting to hear some of their "quieter" squawks - they kind of chirp here and there when they're foraging, especially when there's a pair of them around. You can actually hear a little bit of the ones in this video doing it. Birds are awesome - :)

  • Beautiful. Every year lately we seem to be getting more and more blue jays. They're some feisty birds...good thing they're so pretty.

  • @zamusicza - True - they can be annoying, but they're so pretty to look at (even when they *are* being annoying - :))

  • hehehehe birds

  • i love birds

  • Wow, my comment didn't show? Love the music with this!

  • Thanks, I made that myself too - :) Not sure about the comment, this is the first one I saw from you on this video - YouTube doesn't post comments sometimes, I don't know why that is.

  • Just breathtaking!!! Blue Jays are so lovely -- thanks for posting the video! Can't wait to look at your others!

  • You're welcome! Thank you for the nice comment, I'm glad you liked it!

  • Blue jays are the coolest birds. Thanks for the video.

  • You're welcome, I'm glad you liked it!

  • Thanks! now i can do some more research. I'm doing a school project so im looking for video info. so i found out what blue jays make their nests from.

  • You're welcome! I'm glad my video could help you out!

  • Another awesome video. I love your channel! Great for learning about the habits of my own backyard habitat critters.

  • Thank you so much for saying so! I'm glad you liked it - :) I have more coming soon, been busy lately, but I have a few slated to release soon.

  • This is a great reference, I'm drawing a blue jay named Fletch for a story, I'm writing. Even though this video helped a lot, it's official I cannot draw birds,

  • That's awesome! I'm glad my video could help! I suck at proportions when I draw - I can draw a gull's head, a penguin's head (I drew an entire series of penguin drawings for a project once) but I can't do body proportions for #@% - :)

  • there looking around saying, what am I going to grab next?

  • Pretty much, yep - :)

  • the blue jays that i seen wernt all blue at the top and i got no clue why

  • They might have been moulting - I've seen a few blue jays with really ratty looking heads, it depends on what time of year it is. I've noticed a male cardinal lately that looks like that too - all red, just not on the head.

  • Lovely video. What a wonderful bird. Thank you for sharing.

  • Thank you! I'm glad you liked it, and you're welcome! :)

  • So beautiful video

  • Thanks for saying so!

  • Omg!Awosme. Theres on in my mailbox!(Babies) I wanna see them fly!.

  • That's cool! I taped a Dove's nest last year, it was cool to see them (try) and hatch the egg - that nest failed though when they knocked the egg out of the nest... :(

  • When I was little I saw a blue jay actually *sing.* Well, not quite sing, but make a cheerful little whistle and not scream or squawk. I've trying to find sound clips of a blue jay's whistle and haven't found one sample yet.

  • I've heard that a few times actually! This video has a few examples of that in the background, it's kind of like a little warbling squawk that they do. Not *squaaaawk!*, but a little subdued chirp. Check my page for a video called "Interesting Bluejay Squawks!" - that might be what you're looking for.

  • I attached that video to this video as a video response - just click on the little icon underneath the main video to see it.

  • Hmmm, sorry for the duplicate comment folks; I thought YouTube had rejected my first one for its verbosity (or outright pedantry). Then they went ahead and posted both of them so I look like a twice-posting fool.

I'm not having that; I insist on being a thrice-posting fool.

  • Ah! Good on ya! Actually, I'm the "they" that you refer to - your comment didn't post in the first place because I need to approve it first - that way, I don't get a bunch of "I EAT BIRDZ" comments or the like... I kept both of them on because I thought they both had their good points - they're the same comment, but rewritten slightly... If you want me to get rid of one of them, just say the word... :)

  • project is brilliant!

  • Thanks for saying so!

  • These Blue Jays are very busy! We have scrub-jays and Steller's Jays in our yard. It's fun to watch them take turns at the platform bird feeder. Poor squirrels-- that's THEIR feeder! Another platform feeder, just a few yards away, is for the jays, doves, etc.

    Beautiful birds... beautiful video.

  • Thank you very much for saying so! I'm very lucky to have been able to capture something so intimate in a bluejay's life! I don't believe that we have any other kinds of Jays living in our area, but that would be awesome to see different species of them! That's extremely cool that you defend the squirrels and their feeder! Not a lot of people do, but I've never minded when the squirrels take a bite out of the birds' feeder!

  • Steller's jays these ain't. Blue jays (Cyanocitta cristata) aren't normally found west of the Rockies, while Steller's jays (Cyanocitta stelleri) are only found in the forests of the western US and Canada. Also you won't see white feathers anywhere on a stelleri; unlike cristata and its beautifully patterned tail. Stelleri has richly blue wings and back, a dark grey head and neck; the grey extending down its breast.

Stellers are famously brazen near humans: they will land on your picnic table!

  • Very cool! I wish I *was* living in the forest, but I'm more in the burbs - plus I don't live in the West... :) Brazen birds are cool - we have Ring-Billed Gulls around here that are so skiddish at the slightest perturbance, but I've heard of larger gulls in greater numbers that won't hesitate to attack if you have something they want!

Also, stelleri has no white feathers; unlike cristata and its beautifully patterned tail. A Steller's has a dark grey head and neck; the grey extending far down its breast.

Steller's are famously brazen near humans: They will land on your picnic table (and probably tie a red checkered napkin aronud their own necks)!

  • I love Blue Jays. They are beautiful birds. I throw handfulls of peanuts out three times a day for them and they gobble them up two at a time. Many people don't like them for their agressiveness but I have never had any trouble with them and my other birds. They are quite intelligent birds.

  • I've never had a problem with them either, but I've found them to be quite intelligent too - when you get a chance to observe them so close up, it's interesting to see all of the little vocalizations that bluejays have, you can hear a little of it during this piece, a kind of subdued squawk the couple voices back and forth to each other as they're gathering things for the nest. Most people don't know they do any other calls besides the long-reaching scream they usually do.

  • Wow!! Its an amazing song! Would you send me a copy? That would be fantastic!!

  • Sure! (Sorry for the delay, it's been a *long* week... :)) I need to find the file first, and I'll be sure to let you know when I do! Hopefully tonight!

  • I just sent you a message with the URL - hopefully it got through, YouTube's been excruciatingly slow this morning!

  • What is the song's name? I must know! Its fantastic!

  • Thank you! It's actually a song I sequenced myself specifically for this video - I could send you a copy of it if you'd like!

  • Cool! Was about to ask how you filmed this then checked your profile. Very cool.

I've put a couple videos of some blue jays hanging out on my porch eating cat food. Not as exciting as yours but living in the city it's nice having a little bit of nature come visit, heh.

  • Thanks for saying so! Sorry it took me so long to get back to the comment! It's always nice when you can watch nature, even in the city! I'm more or less in the city too actually... :) I'll check those out soon!

  • Aw, this is very nice footage of the male helping his baby mama sort twigs for the nest.

  • Thank you very much - I'm glad you liked it!

  • Beautiful music and wonderful footage! Oh I love bluejays.

  • Thank you very much - for both! :) They're very beautiful birds - I'm surprised that they didn't mind the camera moving around!

  • Best photography I've seen of stellar? jays. Good job!

  • Thank you! I'm pretty sure these are Blue Jays - Stellar's Jays are a little more blue on their chests than these... One of these is the male, I'm assuming the brighter colored one, and the other is the female - they're a nesting pair!

  • YOu might be right. Our bratty Stellars seem more blue throughout, with a more ruffian demeanor to their head feathers. Like Elvis. ;-)

  • Right! :) It's rare to see the Jays this closely - but you definitely hear them screaming to each other!

  • Finally finished my video that has stellar jays in them. Look for the Blue Skies video on my channel. Mom said one landed right next to her. She was throwing them cheerios.

Since my digital camera "video mode" couldn't capture the squawk sounds, I created a stellar jay soundtrack from various sources until it sounded as I remembered it. I even recorded sqawks from those stuffed toys that have bird songs in them.

  • I just noticed this comment! Sorry it took me so long to notice it! I'm going to check that video out soon - is that the "Blue Skies from Now On" video?

  • Yes. That's the one. What the video sounds like, Steller Jay wise, is what the real place sounds like. Stellar Jay heaven. My camera just couldn't get it, so I recreated it. It's hard to find this birdcall. Bought some, downloaded others, and used the stuffed toys too! Artistic licence. ;-)

  • Yes, I love those Blue Jays. I love the ones on my mountain. They are smart and beautiful creatures

  • They are! I love Blue Jays too - it's not often that I get to record them this close-up!

  • Cool! We have a lot of those around here! They like popcorn!

  • Oh yeah? We hear them around here all the time, but they don't show themselves that often - at least not as candidly as they did for this video!

  • I had two blue jays build a nest in the pine in my backyard (I can see the nest from my bedroom window). But now it looks like they've disappeared. There's no egg shells on the ground, nor any feathers (signs of a bird fight). Are they that discreet during nesting or do you think some other birds got to the eggs? Lots of robins, ravens, doves and sparrows around.

  • I'm not sure on that one - if you don't see any eggshells or feathers anywhere around, they probably either abandoned the nest (hopefuly not!) or they may just be private nesters. I wouldn't think that they'd be that privative though... Can you see into the nest from your bedroom, or just the bottom of the nest?

  • I used to see the bluejays sitting in the nest. So I probably just answered my own question. Haven't seen one flying around, and I know they both wouldn't fit in the nest without being visible. I wish I had a 20 foot ladder. Would they come back to the same place next year?

  • I'm not sure - I've read that they're opportunistic (and parasitic) nesters, so unless that nest is suiting them, they might move on to another nest... probably another bird's nest - so they may still be in the area, just in another part of the yard... As for the 20 foot ladder... if they hadn't gone, they would be if you got that out and started looking! :)

  • Excellent! Excellent! Thank you for sharing this beauty.

  • Thank you very much! I enjoyed shooting it! :) I have a few other shots from that day that I should edit together in some form and put up here soon...

  • I need to know!

  • Thank you for saying so!
