I believe this was an icebreaker. All Genre music combined together to focus on the one music that helps us in the time of storm. When music producers can't produce any music they can turn to one genre of music that gives them inspiration which is....GOSPEL!!! Praise God for his songs of Zion.

Who cares about what people think or what some church folks opinions were back then? This performance was a light unto the secular world, all the world. If it wasn't meant to be, then they would have never been invited to the Grammy's to sing. The sad thing is after this performance the bishops told mattie moss she was not to ever perform with them publcily again. (like they did something wrong.) It's amazing how they were pesecuted back in the day. Thats why they have come into there season. (what gispel artist wins 3 grammys in one year?)

No. There's a difference between being MEAN and being a leader. A leader, especially back then wanted as close to perfection as possible. When they were young girls their mother told them exactly what to do. But they also make sure in their interviews that they say that their mother told them to LIVE what they were singing about and have an established relationship with God. Funny you say that but they really do need a rain check. I'm real funny about how denominations choose their doctrines or whatever. If the doctrine of their denominations lines up with the word of God I'm cool with it, but otherwise I have a problem with it.
Look at Mother Clark keeping up with them. It took me a minute to realize. I was like "I thought Mattie was supposed to be singing too." She blending in and just looking like one of the girls I didn't even notice her. Go head! lol. Praise the Lord! He is worthy ALL the time!

I know I saw that on unsung. It came on tv one and it was pass my bedtime and i asked my mom can i watch it and she said go to bed. But she ended uo waking me up to watch it. My mind was blown a way at some things said like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But still got love for them.
that stage will never be the same. I wish Denise hadn't done those things that her sisters went against. But at least she got her life together. She's a pastor just like her mama, and she can still sing/preach.

This was incredible! The Clark Sisters and Mother Mattie had nothing to regret about this performance, and it was certainly no mistake. We don't know whose soul may have been saved at that moment, either in the audience or at home. It is strange to read so many comments regarding their outfits and not the message. I am not sure what else people expected them to wear outside of the formal evening gowns they had on.
Somebody made comments about their dresses but if I remember correctly didn't Tisha Cambell wear a white dress simular to those in Spike Lee's movie "School Daze" when her and some other girls were singing the song "I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight"?
And besides, the dresses were beautifully modest! I think it was wonderful for Dr. Clark to be able to perform with her daughters. It shows a side of her that knew how to have fun and still be a Christian. Moreover, her daughters now have this precious memory of their mom now that she has passed. They were being witnesses for the Lord at the Grammys. Who cares what Pharisees in the church think?
Karen and the Clarks are at the American Music Awards having church in the crummy 1:58 seconds given to them. Gospel is always slighted but they made the best of it. Mattie was on stage hanging with her daughters!!!!!

Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark, their mother, was "threatened" with removal from her position of musical "authority" because Denise had a child out of wedlock, which went against the Lord's doctrine of premarital sex. Denise left, was kicked out, whatever, either way vacated her position in the musical group to raise her family. She's married and doing ministry work out west. Also, I read a post that her sons perform gospel as "The Clark Brothers".
She was also threatened for allowing the girls (Clark Sisters) to sing for secular venues like this one. It went again what the COGIC should for. They especially didn't like when, "You Brought the Sunshine" was sang in church cause it was also being played in clubs. Like it was a number one opener back in the day at many clubs in New York during that time. she held a special meeting with Dr. Clark with the COGIC Head Leaders. But thank God his WILL prevailed it all.
No it's not a cult. But at the time, they were alot more conservative than they are now. I'm a part of it, and I love it. The people in leadership during the time this was made aren't there anymore.
Exactly! I came up in a church in Chicago called St. James COGIC and I remember when YBTS was out and How I even thought back then that it was worldy music. But you have to look beyond the differences and get the message

Musician, Arranger, Conductor, producer, Singer, Composer, and an annointed woman of the most high God. But even our greatest treasures make some mistakes. I think that their appearance may have been an attempt to garner some cross-over appeal. I would caution them to take the cross with them as they cross over to a more mass appeal.
God didn't call all of his preachers, and prophets, and singers and evangelists to just sit up in the church and preach and sing to church folk all the time, you gotta go out and minister to LOST souls, people that have never heard of the man named Jesus. That's great and I hope they do well. The grammys, however, is not what God will judge them on. I believe the Lord has the ultimate award/reward for them as they remain faithful to him. I believe they will do just that. Again, I stress...I HOPE THEY DO WELL!
And look at them now...Mattie kept her position as President and now Dorinda is Vice President. So they must not have been that mad at them...because Mattie was president until she died.

This was incredible! The Clark Sisters and Mother Mattie had nothing to regret about this performance, and it was certainly no mistake. We don't know whose soul may have been saved at that moment, either in the audience or at home. It is strange to read so many comments regarding their outfits and not the message. I am not sure what else people expected them to wear outside of the formal evening gowns they had on.

Somebody made comments about their dresses but if I remember correctly didn't Tisha Cambell wear a white dress simular to those in Spike Lee's movie "School Daze" when her and some other girls were singing the song "I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight"?

And besides, the dresses were beautifully modest! I think it was wonderful for Dr. Clark to be able to perform with her daughters. It shows a side of her that knew how to have fun and still be a Christian. Moreover, her daughters now have this precious memory of their mom now that she has passed. They were being witnesses for the Lord at the Grammys. Who cares what Pharisees in the church think?

Karen and the Clarks are at the American Music Awards having church in the crummy 1:58 seconds given to them. Gospel is always slighted but they made the best of it. Mattie was on stage hanging with her daughters!!!!!

Does anyone have the Clarks entire performance that night? The Clarks came out again along with James Cleveland, Denise Williams and Andrae Crouch and sang "Cant Nobody Do Me Like Jesus." Twinkie squalled that song into another dimension..lol

I just purchased the "Legends of Gospel" DVD on Ebay a few minutes ago. Once you log on to ebay, hit "Advanced Search" and "Find Stores". Enter the store name- Crazy DVD Prices. Once inside that store, enter Clark Sisters in their search box. You will see Legends of Gospel as well as the One Last Time DVD available.

Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark, their mother, was "threatened" with removal from her position of musical "authority" because Denise had a child out of wedlock, which went against the Lord's doctrine of premarital sex. Denise left, was kicked out, whatever, either way vacated her position in the musical group to raise her family. She's married and doing ministry work out west. Also, I read a post that her sons perform gospel as "The Clark Brothers".

She was also threatened for allowing the girls (Clark Sisters) to sing for secular venues like this one. It went again what the COGIC should for. They especially didn't like when, "You Brought the Sunshine" was sang in church cause it was also being played in clubs. Like it was a number one opener back in the day at many clubs in New York during that time. she held a special meeting with Dr. Clark with the COGIC Head Leaders. But thank God his WILL prevailed it all.

As far as religon goes...The word of God says...be ye HOLY. Didn't say anything about what denomination or group. The devil wants to keep us divided against each other. One God, One Word...period.

Jay I agree with you. See the problem with a whole bunch of church folks is that they spend so much time focusing on the outer appearance of man. GOD focuses on the inside. GOD knows the heart. He says to make sure YOU have your house in order because you are accountable for the way you live your life as a believer in CHRIST.

Musician, Arranger, Conductor, producer, Singer, Composer, and an annointed woman of the most high God. But even our greatest treasures make some mistakes. A 100+ year old woman in a prom dress is a hot mess!

Basically yes! I mean, c'mon now..As christians we should be prayerful that we'd decrease so that the Lord will increase. At the end of the day I feel with some degree of certainty that the people didn't remember the words that were coming out of their mouths,they did remember the prom dresses, though. This performance was pretty radical for its time and they have never been invited back to the grammys!

Ok, I respect that. However, I think we have gone too far away from conveying the true message of christ. In this country we are way too caught up in celebrity! I think that their appearance may have been an attempt to garner some cross-over appeal. I would caution them to take the cross with them as they cross over to a more mass appeal.

God didn't call all of his preachers, and prophets, and singers and evangelists to just sit up in the church and preach and sing to church folk all the time, you gotta go out and minister to LOST souls, people that have never heard of the man named Jesus. Ain't nothing wrong with spreading the gospel, thru whatever means.... Grammys, Stellars or on the street corner...whatever. SPREAD THE WORD and save lost souls!!!!!!!!!

That's great and I hope they do well. The grammys, however, is not what God will judge them on. I believe the Lord has the ultimate award/reward for them as they remain faithful to him. I believe they will do just that. Again, I stress...I HOPE THEY DO WELL!
