  • I believe this was an icebreaker. All Genre music combined together to focus on the one music that helps us in the time of storm. When music producers can't produce any music they can turn to one genre of music that gives them inspiration which is....GOSPEL!!! Praise God for his songs of Zion.

  • Karen went out there and acted a FOOL! YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSS!

  • LMAO denise lost it at the end

  • @shanja2 UM DENISE IS NOT IN THIS VID IT WUZ TWINKIE, JACKIE, DORINDA, AND KAREN. AND THEIR MOTHER

  • @bacardi123 ummm. im sorry to say this, but.... you're not correct. I encourage you to watch the video again and take a close look at the organ, where Twinkie is seated. You will then notice that all 5 of the sisters + Mattie were performing. Denise is on the far right..... (i know my clark sisters)

  • @shanja2 LMAO YEH NOW I SEE DENISE SHE LOOKS JUS LIKE TWINKIE FOR A MIN SORRY

  • Denise is in this video. Twinkie is on the organ, then Karen, Denise, the late Mattie, Dorinda, and then Jackie

  • They were awesome because they were all peculiar women and look where they are now, LOL!!!!! toGOD be the glory. But did yall see how some the audience we looking at them, lol!! and catch Loinel Richey in the audience looking at them.

  • Karen ripped this song up..I like the uuh I feel good part! Yeah!

  • This was hot!

  • Where can I watch this entire video? ANyone?

  • @ 1:38 im really tryna figure out why that man was lookin at him like that.....like he was expecting him to do something.......smh

  • ain't it cute how the white folk where lookin at them...lol...

  • as a young person i was really glad to see Dr. Mattie Moss Clark in action. Clark sisters were truly brought up right thanks to great parents and the Holy ghost.

  • Who cares about what people think or what some church folks opinions were back then? This performance was a light unto the secular world, all the world. If it wasn't meant to be, then they would have never been invited to the Grammy's to sing. God clearly opened the door through The Clark Sister's fame for them and Dr. Clark to be a holy ghost witness! They all looks so cute on here. I LOVE UM!

  • mattie gettin it in there!!!!

  • Twinkie was on a ORGAN.... AT THE GRAMMY'S LOL! THATS ALL RIGHT PRAISE HIM!!!

  • thank you so much tijack i have been looking for this performance for a long time since i saw the Unsung on TCS thank you so much

  • The sad thing is after this performance the bishops told mattie moss she was not to ever perform with them publcily again. (like they did something wrong.) It's amazing how they were pesecuted back in the day. Thats why they have come into there season. (what gispel artist wins 3 grammys in one year?)

  • @MrRiteisrite U are so true......Gospel music is not just made for the church. If so, then how would we ever reach out to those that are lost in sin.

  • @MrRiteisrite i so agree with this

  • Comment removed

  • This women are still holy ghost filled. Most people dont act Holy or Santified 24 hrs a day, especially at work. Im sure some of it was done for their profession, but that what you do when you do a job, and that's there job. Doesn't mean that they are not filled with the holy ghost or saved. Don't judge them. Look at Niecy when it was over, she was clearly caught up. Don't look to deep into it. The awards show only gave them 2 minutes to do what they did anyway. WHO COULD DO BETTER THAN THAT.

  • Yeah we are seeing two different things...I've seen a lot of performers which I have to agree with you are mostly today's gospel...but trust me when I say they were taught how to grab the audience. And to the comment of back then people being strict...did Jesus smack the Apostles when they didn't do something he told them to do....Ah NO... that was done, because that was apart of her lively hood---her income --MONEY!

  • Because I am a huge fan I listen to a lot of there interviews, and there mother had an Anointing for music, but she was REALLY mean. The way she treated those girls (Twinkie especially) was ridiculous. They got smacked, embarrassed in front of whoever...that's not Holiness. They all are very harsh women because of that treatment.

  • No. There's a difference between being MEAN and being a leader. A leader, especially back then wanted as close to perfection as possible. So when you messed up something or weren't taking things as seriously as she wanted, of course she'd throw something at u, or hit u, or embarass you. And if u were serving for the right reasons, u wouldn't get upset...and most people DIDN'T in those times. It's only NOW that we have these inflated ego people who feel as tho they can't be taught anything

  • You said a mouthful Vash!!!

  • OOhh say that! I'm a choir director and that statement you just made couldn't be more accurate!

  • what's "IMO" mean?

  • I have no idea...

  • Where was TWINKIE? You know I heard an interview (trust me I am one of The Clark Sisters biggest fan), but they PERFORM, they use the Lords name, but it is mostly performance. In interviews listen to what they say..."Our mom would tell us exactly what to do and how to do it when we got on stage" O.K. that is not going by the leading of the Lord...that is a performance practiced.

  • When they were young girls their mother told them exactly what to do. But they also make sure in their interviews that they say that their mother told them to LIVE what they were singing about and have an established relationship with God. Its funny because the Clark Sisters are one of the FEW gospel groups that I never got "performance" from IMO. They've always seemed very raw and real to me...and they always seemed to follow the spirit of God. Guess we c two different things

  • She was on the organ

  • if the cogic church was mad @ them 4 this den they are a whack denomination.. they spreadin the love of jesus and cogic ppl r always so quick 2 try 2 kick sum1 out or make em step down but dosent the bible say only GOD can judg..SO WHO R THE COGIC 2 DETERMINE WHAT IS RIGHT AND WHAT IS WRONG AND WHO STAYZ AND WHO GOES AND WHO WEARS WHAT..DATZ A BUNCH OF FAKE HOLY ROLLIN BS..COGIC REALLY NEEDS A SELF EVALUATION REALTALK.. DAT DONT MAKE SINCE ONLY THING THEY DO IS JUDGE AND RUN THEIR MOUTHS..LAME..

  • Funny you say that but they really do need a rain check. I'm real funny about how denominations choose their doctrines or whatever. If the doctrine of their denominations lines up with the word of God I'm cool with it, but otherwise I have a problem with it.

  • ok is there any african americans in the audience?

  • I saw Dione Warwick and Lionel Richie.

  • Look at Mother Clark keeping up with them. It took me a minute to realize. I was like "I thought Mattie was supposed to be singing too." She blending in and just looking like one of the girls I didn't even notice her. Go head! lol. Praise the Lord! He is worthy ALL the time!

  • THAT IS LIKE HONESTLY A CLASSIC LOL

  • wow..they looked like moving stars in the midnight sky...Sing yall..

  • Furthermore, the Clark Sisters were featured on the 2008 Grammy Awards with Bebe Winans & Aretha Franklin, which introduced them to a new generation of fans. They are second to none, trendsetters and trail blazers of the music industry, not just Gospel music.

  • Out of all the 11 or so post on this page, no one seems to mention God or for that fact, Jesus. Only what the Clark sisters have done and what they are. I love the Clark Sisters, but I love Jesus more and I'm sure that they do to. If God doesn't get the glory, no one gets the Glory! I hope you get the point.

  • You have to infer that most of the people on this page love God and Jesus, which is why they are on youtube watching gospel music videos, and a song called "Hallelujah", but I do understand your point, and it's very true, we're losing focus on Jesus in modern times.

  • To help everyone who doesn't know. This is a historic and classic performance from the World Famous Clark Sisters with their mother Mattie Moss Clark included, Twinkie on the organ. This is the 1985 Grammy Awards. They were the first Gospel group in history to have their own spot on a Television show aired to the world in this fashion. THEY ARE SIMPLY LEGENDS & PIONEERS! The 1982-83 "You Brought the Sunshine" crossover hit caused the world to know the Clark Sisters.

  • Can you believe that Ms. Mattie got in trouble with her church about performing on stage with her daughters? They told her that she couldn't perform on stage with her daughters ever again.

  • I know I saw that on unsung. It came on tv one and it was pass my bedtime and i asked my mom can i watch it and she said go to bed. But she ended uo waking me up to watch it. My mind was blown a way at some things said like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But still got love for them.

  • go sheila e

  • Tisha Campbell had on a similar dress. There's nothing wrong with either of the dresses....tisha's looked just fine and so did the clark sisters.

  • Help US PRAISE HIM LIONEL RICHIE!! LOL!!

  • that stage will never be the same. I wish Denise hadn't done those things that her sisters went against. But at least she got her life together. She's a pastor just like her mama, and she can still sing/preach.

  • THIS IS HISTORY--PERIOD. There is no way you could have a Kirk Franklin or Tye Tribbett without these sistas here!!! The Grammy's are still trying to recover....

  • There's nothing in this world like good gospel singing.

  • this is LEGENDARY!!!! God was glorified and they were not ashamed!!! I LOVE IT!!

  • All the white people in the audience look afraid LOL!

  • I know!! HILARIOUS!!! I love their holy boldness though!

  • Go head MATTIE!!! She was movin' in those stilettos!!! RIP GOD BLESS HER SOUL

  • that was insane!!!! oh....my....God! i enjoyed that. God bless Dr Clark and her increasingly beautiful daughters!

  • This was incredible! The Clark Sisters and Mother Mattie had nothing to regret about this performance, and it was certainly no mistake. We don't know whose soul may have been saved at that moment, either in the audience or at home. It is strange to read so many comments regarding their outfits and not the message. I am not sure what else people expected them to wear outside of the formal evening gowns they had on.

  • Somebody made comments about their dresses but if I remember correctly didn't Tisha Cambell wear a white dress simular to those in Spike Lee's movie "School Daze" when her and some other girls were singing the song "I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight"?

  • And besides, the dresses were beautifully modest! I think it was wonderful for Dr. Clark to be able to perform with her daughters. It shows a side of her that knew how to have fun and still be a Christian. Moreover, her daughters now have this precious memory of their mom now that she has passed. They were being witnesses for the Lord at the Grammys. Who cares what Pharisees in the church think?

  • nice to see five of them together

  • R.I.P Dr Mattie Moss Clark We love You!!!!!

  • TWO and FOUR!!! not ONE and THREE!!!! LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

  • Get it Mattie!

  • LOL look at the faces in the audience

  • The white people in audience are lookin like, "Oh my gosh, What's happening here?" lol

  • i cant beleve as strick as mattie was on them she did that she old right there and runing & moving faster then her dauters.

  • Karen and the Clarks are at the American Music Awards having church in the crummy 1:58 seconds given to them. Gospel is always slighted but they made the best of it. Mattie was on stage hanging with her daughters!!!!!

  • right i would love to see a praise break happen at the grammys LOL

  • I love the clarks.... but this is funny...lol

  • 1:46!!!!!!! Lionel Ritchie had that black folk church clap for a second! He tryna stay "composed" in front of his lil boojie friends lol

  • Why does Diana Ross remind me of a secular Mattie Moss-Clark? Ain't no other than Mattie! Talk about a diva, she was a diva in the Holy Ghost!

  • Does anyone have the Clarks entire performance that night? The Clarks came out again along with James Cleveland, Denise Williams and Andrae Crouch and sang "Cant Nobody Do Me Like Jesus." Twinkie squalled that song into another dimension..lol

  • if I am not mistaken they got in trouble for being on this on here by the late Bishop JO Patterson

  • Hmm. That's interesting. What kinda trouble they got into? I heard about J.O. Patterson but if I'm correct there's no authority by person on Gospel music to be played only in church.

  • Listen here I am in dire need. Does anyone know where I can get some of their dvd's to buy?

  • I just purchased the "Legends of Gospel" DVD on Ebay a few minutes ago. Once you log on to ebay, hit "Advanced Search" and "Find Stores". Enter the store name- Crazy DVD Prices. Once inside that store, enter Clark Sisters in their search box. You will see Legends of Gospel as well as the One Last Time DVD available.

  • all them white people clappin on the up beat...lol

  • Dionne looked like she enjoyed them

  • That's one of her fav gospel groups.

  • was this the grammys

  • ya'll is telling the truth about the audience, i'm confused too....what year what this? the comments are too funnnnnnnyyyyy ha ha ha LOL LOL LOL LOL................

  • them folks looked so confused in that audience they didn't even know what to do with that in your face talent!

  • ya'll is telling the truth about the audience, i'm confused too....what year what this? the comments are too funnnnnnnyyyyy ha ha ha LOL LOL LOL LOL................

  • where was this?

  • @ the Grammy's 1986

  • thanx

  • look so worldly

  • what does worldly look like?

  • That was a stupid comment!

  • Mattie's GLasses were great.

  • it is amazing what can be done in ust under 2 minutes!! They sang, danced, rocked the crowd and got off the stage!! Even their momma was getting down!!

  • 4 real especially karen

  • Is that Ms. Escovedo (Sheila E.) in the audience( that did it for me) and to the person who said they don't like it b/c it looks like they're giving a show NEWFLASH: They Were that's what performances are. What awards show was this.

  • They look like some Big Black Birds! I know they look back at these videos and question what they were thinking! LOl they still sound the same though

  • lol

  • especially when karen first got on stage and started clapping

  • I don't like this one, it looks like there given a show!

  • They look like the crows 4rm the Wiz!!LOL

  • Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha! they do look a mess! I love them but even they would look back at those hideous dresses and think "Why"?

  • lol omg..yes they did

  • I think the audience was confused lol. Shoot I was a little like where did this come from??? Whats the deal with the bird outfits, don't get me wrong I love the Clark sisters but this was funny.

  • This was the style back then...give em some slack, what was you wearing back then? lol

  • Right, back then I prob was wearing some toddler clothes....depends on what year it was. Shoot, I would talk about myself if I looked hit.

  • Some of them white people was lookin like what the H...! is this lol!

  • Wow Bye for Mattie droppin down and gettin her eagle on!!!!

  • lol ur crazy

  • You're crazy as hell, that's so damn funny. lol, damn.

  • Is this the performance that caused COGIC to "bench" the Clark Sisters for a year?

  • Who is Denise and where did she go??

  • Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark, their mother, was "threatened" with removal from her position of musical "authority" because Denise had a child out of wedlock, which went against the Lord's doctrine of premarital sex. Denise left, was kicked out, whatever, either way vacated her position in the musical group to raise her family. She's married and doing ministry work out west. Also, I read a post that her sons perform gospel as "The Clark Brothers".

  • Thanks so much. God Bless you.

  • Your So Welcome!!! And, God Bless U Also...

  • She was also threatened for allowing the girls (Clark Sisters) to sing for secular venues like this one. It went again what the COGIC should for. They especially didn't like when, "You Brought the Sunshine" was sang in church cause it was also being played in clubs. Like it was a number one opener back in the day at many clubs in New York during that time. she held a special meeting with Dr. Clark with the COGIC Head Leaders. But thank God his WILL prevailed it all.

  • Really? Now that's a shame that some higher power called "COGIC" gonna tell somebody what and what not to do!

  • It's a cult.

  • LOL!! Well that extended to the black community and we, wanting to have something to believe in, went for it hook, line and sinker.

  • No it's not a cult. But at the time, they were alot more conservative than they are now. I'm a part of it, and I love it. The people in leadership during the time this was made aren't there anymore.

  • Exactly! I came up in a church in Chicago called St. James COGIC and I remember when YBTS was out and How I even thought back then that it was worldy music. But you have to look beyond the differences and get the message

  • Denise is an original Clark Sister, their were 5 originally when they started but she stepped down.

  • yes denise was a originley was a singing with them back in the day did you ever think she would ever do any solo albums like her sisters does

  • was that the grammies???? and it was the annointing

  • denise was gettin it @ the end lol praise him!!!

  • Those dresses remind me of the Solar System. Dont you dare give me thumbs down because its my honest opinion im not being mean.

  • What year was this? and where was the event?

  • I believe this was the Grammys about 25 years ago

  • heck yeah lionel was clappin like he didnt know who they were n what church was lol...mattie was gettin it!!! i lol'd soooo many times!

  • "omg" for so many reasons lol

  • Lionel Richie clapping like he never seen anyone getting their praise on!

  • Haha he aint the only one..them white folks is confusseeeeeeddddd lol but they on beat tho bless God!! lol

  • Dr. Clark was keeping up with them wasn't she! She looked all young, almost like one of her daughters. Boy, the 80's were great!

  • Man! that was just beautiful, Dr. Mattie and her daughters. You just don't get any better than this. Gospel music has changed so much, I prefer the old school church stuff like this. As far as religon goes...The word of God says...be ye HOLY. Didn't say anything about what denomination or group. The devil wants to keep us divided against each other. One God, One Word...period.

  • Yes Lord..one thing for one person to do it but ministry is a family wide thing with them. Either you sing, preach, play, write , produce, or a mix of them all its wonderful. And the best part is they didnt stop with the clark sisters and they probably wont stop with Kiki and her brother and her cousins

  • Lionel Richie clapping like he aint never been to church before

  • HAHA! I saw that too! Funny

  • the white people were on there clappin'! White people can praise him too!!

  • Those outfits were WACKKKKKKKKKKK!

  • -clark sister are the best female group om gospel that was even made

  • I was trying to be civil, but I see you're not quite interested in civility, huh? Yes, I strive to be ready everyday and I hope you do the same. I obviously hit a nerve in bad mouthing your beloved Clark sisters. Altough bad mouthing is not how I'd describe it, but, oh well! Your infatuation with them is kinda scary, fella! Had I known you were gonna have such a bf about it, I might have left it alone! God bless

  • 1)Dont look at there outfits

    2)WHO CARES WHAT THEY WHERE

3)the clarks can wear pajamas and the Lord thy God can still come in.

4)God Bless You All and Happy New Year!!!

  • Jay I agree with you. See the problem with a whole bunch of church folks is that they spend so much time focusing on the outer appearance of man. GOD focuses on the inside. GOD knows the heart. He says to make sure YOU have your house in order because you are accountable for the way you live your life as a believer in CHRIST.

  • Dr. Mattie Moss Clark getting it!!!

    lol

  • 1985 Where?

  • KAREN, BUST EM WIDE OPEN.

  • Ok, people....What's really going on here? They are wrong for this! I could expound on it, but the proof is in the video. This is a hot mess and this has got to be one performance they cannot be proud of.This is one video they won't discuss in an interview!

  • Why is this performance a hot mess?

  • I mean no disrespect in what I'm about to say so all of you "Clarkaholics" brace yourselves. Mattie Moss-Clark is a national treasure! Musician, Arranger, Conductor, producer, Singer, Composer, and an annointed woman of the most high God. But even our greatest treasures make some mistakes. A 100+ year old woman in a prom dress is a hot mess!

  • So their attire is what makes this performance a hot mess?

  • Basically yes! I mean, c'mon now..As christians we should be prayerful that we'd decrease so that the Lord will increase. At the end of the day I feel with some degree of certainty that the people didn't remember the words that were coming out of their mouths, they did remember the prom dresses, though. This performance was pretty radical for its time and they have never been invited back to the grammys!

  • Come one man...they went on there saying "Clap your hands and praise him"!!! Get off there outfits and focus on there words...they went on a secular show and shouted and sent God praise..God is pleased and it does not if you are or not..GOD GOT THE GLORY..

  • Ok, I respect that. However, I think we have gone too far away from conveying the true message of christ. In this country we are way too caught up in celebrity! I think that their appearance may have been an attempt to garner some cross-over appeal. I would caution them to take the cross with them as they cross over to a more mass appeal.

  • God didn't call all of his preachers, and prophets, and singers and evangelists to just sit up in the church and preach and sing to church folk all the time, you gotta go out and minister to LOST souls, people that have never heard of the man named Jesus. Ain't nothing wrong with spreading the gospel, thru whatever means.... Grammys, Stellars or on the street corner...whatever. SPREAD THE WORD and save lost souls!!!!!!!!!

  • just to let you know they're nominated for 6 grammys this year

  • That's great and I hope they do well. The grammys, however, is not what God will judge them on. I believe the Lord has the ultimate award/reward for them as they remain faithful to him. I believe they will do just that. Again, I stress...I HOPE THEY DO WELL!

  • You may aso be interested in knowing that Mattie and the girls were admonished by the cogic church for this performance.

  • And look at them now...Mattie kept her position as President and now Dorinda is Vice President. So they must not have been that mad at them...because Mattie was president until she died.

  • I said they were "admonished" not sat down! There is a difference, you know. I was just pointing out that this did not go un-noticed by the cogic church. It's all good, though, none of us are perfect, thus we all make mistakes. Have a great Holiday season and my prayer is that we all draw ever closer to the Lord because his coming is real soon.

  • Yes he is...so get yourself ready!

  • Who cares what cogic says..it matters what God says...when we get to the gate all these cogic and PAW and baptist and AME and apostolic mess can go down the drain....

  • We are only "Clarkaholics" because we like what God is doing through them and we like what we see....

  • i LOVE this clip! I love how cute Dr Mattie Moss Clark looks lol she can step too.. I don't think alot of those people didnt know how to take them but than again alot of them seemed to be feelin them!! I LOVE THE CLARK SISTERS... THE OUTFITS were interesting too lol

  • I said the same exact thing! Dr Mattie was so cute with them. Those people didn't know they was going to church right then. Surprise!! Halleluuuujah!

  • If u look at 1:39, the white guy sitting next to Lionel Richie.. he haves this look like " what are these black people doing" lol and Lionel haves a look like he'd not really feelin them... Interesting!

  • Oh my goodness yes!! LOL!!!!!

And Lionel didnt even turn around to the guy...as if he were embarrased. Puttin' on a front for Hollywood. Didn't he sang "Jesus is love" with the Commodores? He know the deal! LOL!

  • VOICES ARE IMPECCABLE AS EVER, but where they get those outfits from. THANK god the 80's are over

  • Do people realize the doors God allowed the Clark Sisters to open for others. Go head yall

  • Wow did you see the Late Dr. Mattie Moss Clark in there singing looking cute as ever. This is the type of musicianship that brought gospel music into the mainstream media. Thank you GOD for Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. And she can move too!!!!!!!!! Pastor Ford

  • was that sheila E?? ANd I know Lionel was not acting all brand new!! Hollywood
