Because a few hundred years ago, the breed that will soon to known as English bulldogs were bred to be used in bull baiting. They're short enough to mostly avoid a bull's hooves when kicking and short enough to nip their hooves.

They are so worth it! We just lost our 11-year-old bully, and miss her dearly. Bullys aren't like other dogs - they are great with kids (our daughter was only 15 months old when Daisy passed, and Daisy was great with her) and have a sense of humour like no other - they are very entertaining. We were lucky, Daisy was healthy - just make sure you get it from a reputable breeder. DON"T BUY IT FROM A PET STORE!
