  • midge ure was the fuck of the decade

  • At 3:55, Midge flubs the lyric- he's starts singing "The look" and then remembers that the line is "the shape", so it comes out sounding like "the LAPE and the power..." LOL! A few seconds later you see him smiling so very sexily at his mistake. Damn, that man was sex on 2 legs.

  • @zpoyly - All Basses are Guitars, but not all Guitars are Basses.

But apart from that - well done.

  • @McSlaine

"Drum solo" when I saw them in 1984. Brilliant! "OOH, OOH, OH" Fantastic :-)

  • ; - )

  • non esistono piu fenomeni come questi adesso solo musichette.GRANDI

  • you pronounce Ure like the word 'your' :)

  • @habana999 ...not your ....oor

  • love this song. one of those 1984 moments (the book not the year ) that had us all freaked out . love that sexy scotsman with the wonderful voice. he was sexy then and he's even more so now. love you lots midge.

  • need higer volume to listen to it

  • @SatanCinque that's not all Muse follow ...the piano!

  • Well this is the look of the 80's... but i think this music is still modern... or post-modern... they could re-record the songs with new arrnagements and production and it would be very interesting...

  • Oh look, someone from village people doin a guest appearance on guitar

  • @McSlaine never heard of them, and i dont think that is a guitar

  • @zpoyly You obviously have access to the internet so your lack of knowledge is your own fault.

    Feed your head.

  • They are really good!

  • they somehow remind me of the killers

  • I saw them three times in the early 80s and this "drum bit" has stayed with me over all those years. Absolutely brilliant to be able to relive it again. Missed the reunion tour but they were a major part of my teens and this stuff is still great even now.

  • Saw them in Portsmouth on Tuesday. WOW. Thank God they decided to tour. Just been buzzing since. Thanks Ultravox.

  • i saw them in plymouth last night - omg!

    they were brilliant!

  • Saw Ultravox last night at the BIC in Bournemouth. Midge was awesome. His voice is just as strong as it ever was and he moves across the stage with such grace.

  • i saw them last night and my god midge ure has changed loads hes bold now :O x

  • It is amazing that some people rely so heavily on what people look like and whether they have the right image. Midge is a very charismatic gentleman and he truly cares about people and that is probably why he is the Ambassodor for Save the Children. Still think that the Ultravox concerts were amazing and I just hope that the band will kieep together and record some more songs to inspire everyone.

  • the first time i saw the was the glasgow apollo in 1982 that was fab

  • Wonderful! Please tell Midge and the boys to tour the US. We really miss him/them on this of the pond.

  • My first gig was Ultravox on the U-Vox tour, 5 Nov 86. I was shocked they didn't do "the drum bit" at the end of The Voice (it was the second song in the set), anyway I saw em at Hammersmith last night and they DID "the drum bit". I would love to have gone up to the younger version of me at Wembley and said, "Oh, you'll see them do the drum bit...in twenty three years." Ha! Ha! Ha! So to speak

Last night was an amazing show, perfect.

  • Went to see them in Brighton last night. They were awesome. So professional. Everybody was on their feet and the atmosphere was terrific.

  • Newcastle City Hall What a Great Night, What Can I Say was briiliant to see them live agian , Lets hope they make a new cd and go on the road agian, looks like the lads loved it up there. Gary in Gateshead.

  • Wow! What a fantastic evening at the Symphony Hall last night. It was wonerful to hear this song sung so well by Midge and the drumming was amazing.

  • Off to see them at Manchester. Can't wait

  • Seen them at the Edinburgh playhouse last night, what a show , they sound as good as ever, really brought the house down,

    place was jumping

  • "Jumping" is an understatement. What a show it was!

  • Thanks for posting that video......FANTASTIC....Going to see Ultravox in Newcastle this Easter Monday.......cant wait

  • Boy, Colin sure is getting down with his bad self back there...go baby!!!

  • radiohead have borrowed the communal drumming thing...

  • ... and not just from these guys. GENTLE GIANT and YES had drum jams in their sets back in the 70's

  • The last little drumming session is awesome!

  • best part of the video in my opinion..

  • The style of this epic song reminds me of the Moody Blues.

  • The voice = Midge Ure

    BAND!

  • That little Odyssey really kicks butt!!!xxx

  • There's my boots again...sigh...

    AWESOME vid...xxxx

  • How do u pronounce Ure?

  • Type in a search for:-

'Rick Mayall, Ade Edmonson and Midge'

That clip clearly addresses how to pronounce 'Ure' ;)

  • Kewl thx man.

  • I have tried and tried and tried, but can NOT get it...:-(..it is definitely a Rik thing...:-)

  • Like "your"

  • Pure but without the P.

  • Cure but without the C.

  • @redremenant as in "you're"

  • this song is awesome. I wonder why they really didnt catch on in the US but did in Europe?

    ps: great voice...

the bass player should take that hat back to the blue oyster bar though.

  • This is so awesome 5*

  • Desde luego is a gem!!!! Wonderful and como canta el tio, magnifico. Yo creo que este puede cantar lo que le de la real gana.

  • This song owns my soul.

  • no Foxx, no Ure, no Ultra. Great Pity. Bring back Mono :)

  • GO DAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • which one is dad !?

  • excellent voice ! wonderful drums ! AMAZING ! GREAT BAND ! They're monsters of melodic progressive music ! from : Brazil

  • i was turned onto this album when I lived in Sweden. The voice is a great album It is innovative, musical, and well engineered.!!!

Also a great use of synthesizers.

  • I saw them in 1986 on U-Vox tour. Unforgetable.

Unbeatable melodies, MU's voice and sound of B.Currie synth solos.

  • There is no one and I mean NO ONE with a better voice than Midge. He knew how to work a mic probably better than anyone. The ultimate was the Live Aid version of Vienna done cold, no rehearsal. Glass shattering perfection!

  • @mysterrious

Absolutely! Midge is one of the greatest vocalists of all time and his performance Live Aid '85 (Vienna specifically) is by far the best I have ever seen out of any band or artist. It's because he comes from a time before pro-tools and all of this other studio wizardry crap people use nowadays to perfect their voices and resort to constant lip syncing. He's a legitimate vocalist and is extraordinarily talented.

  • @mysterrious Midge is pure gold, but no one beats Freddie Mercury, he was from another universe.

  • omg goosebumps...this video is awesome

  • beautiful, i have no words, beutiful!!

  • Talented little sod midge ure isn't he. Very

nice tone of voice, range and power. Losing

it a bit now he's older, but the classic

tone is still there, nothing a good studio

    cannot sort out.

  • Best drum exhibition on video

  • Midge Ure is awesome!

  • hey dis is kewl good job

  • Pure Gold!

  • Brilliant, fantastic posting, loved seeing this. Billy Currie could realy make that ARP Odyssey synth sing..

  • what´s the year of this show?

  • 1982 - Monument World Tour

  • Yes and at the same show, if i remember rightly, Midge lost one of his sticks and two roadies ran on at the same time to replace it, but yes this was one of the best concerts ever. Ultravox very much underrated, when you look at the amount of hits that had and the massive following.

  • I remember seeing Ultravox live at Nottingham for the ''Lament'' tour, when they did this drum quartet, Midge yelled ''A YOU READY??'', yelled the same again, and ....... OMG, the whole place just EXPLODED .... the experience will remain with me FOREVER ..... utterly utterly utterly BLOODY BRILLIANT!!!!!!

  • My brother seen them live twice. I loved them but was too young to go and see them at the time Bastard! Had to put up with top of the pop corny shit vids instead.

  • need to see Astradyne live, unbelievable keyboard playing, anyone got the vid?

  • oh my god, the background singers are horrible!!! They ruin this otherwise perfect version of this perfect song.

It's obvious that they have monitor-problems (one guy holding his ear closed), so it may not be their fault, but it still sounds terrible!

  • this is the most powerful song i have ever heard live it puts most recent bands in the shade and they played and wrote everything themselves

  • Lol does he say "lape" at 3:55?

  • i wondered for a while what mum was about, she said "listen to drums" i was like, "haha, it never happened" then you posted this, now i know my childhood is a little validated. thankyou

  • Hi Digital, Saw this lot do the drum Qaud solo!!! in Hammersmith, bloody brillant, listen to mum...oh dear:)

  • So it was really real?? Oh man, I'm so jealous! I'm really glad you got to see it for real! <3

  • SHAME WE GOTTA GET OLD HUH?

  • I LOVE this song, saw them on Massey Hall in Toronto in early 80's what a show!!

  • No I Co Się Pan Będziesz Czarował! Zajebiste Qrwa Mać I Gra Gitara!

  • . . .and a CALL went out in the 80's and the youth HEARD. The millions that flooded and the movement it sprung ALL OVER THE WORLD. With *Fox's like these there is no stopping these STEALTHS! The take flight by day and BY NIGHT!

  • UniversalVoice

  • Billy Currie on his "ARP Odyssey White Face". The best synth sounds ever! Billy played also these fantastic soundson Gary Numan's Living Ornaments '79 and '81.

  • And OB-X not ? Thanks

  • I don't know. But I don't think an Oberheim OBX is used on this song, I don't know what Mitch is playing. Later Billie also played on an OSCar but during the period "end seventies" and "begin eighties" it was a ARP odyssey on all solo's. Listen to the songs "metal" and "my shadow in vain" on Gary Numan's "living ornaments 81" and you will notice the characteristic screaming ARP sound. The Oberheim OBX and later OBXa are very fat sounding (remember the song "jump" and "99 luftballons"?)

  • Ok i will listen this song, I thought Oberheim OB-X because in this album is used, see The Thin Wall TOTP we see an OB-X.Just for Nena all The song It's OB-X. Thanks for help

  • Billy's solo album with Steve Howe on guitar is great!

  • Just gotta agree 100%, Billy on the ARP Odysey is musical heaven, heavy modulation never sounded so good.. My all time Fav' is Astradyne.

  • DAMN! Fantastic, do you have the rest of that show? This came on some afternoon in the early/mid 90's on German TV as a re-run of, well, obvious... anyway, I can't for the life of me find my tape anymore and there's still Hymn and The Song to come, plus All Stood Still, if I'm not toally wrong... argh, I'm going to search the basement again...

  • Check the rest of the uploads I've posted, you are in for a pleasant surprise!

  • Does anyone know where the Monument Soundtrack version was recorded? This is definitely the same tour, but it's not the same gig. Prefer this one, though. The bass on the Monument version is too loud.

  • Monnument was recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon. There's another fantastic live recording, not sure if it's still available anywhere, it's basically the whole Vienna album, recorded by BBC Radio 1 'Live in Concert' in 1981

  • that gig was 2 years later

  • man i havnt seen this clip since over 20 years...fucking brilliant !!! thanx a million for this. ultravox rules !

  • I saw this on their monument tour in ´81 or ´82 in a old theatre venue in Berlin. I remember a phantastic concert and a unique atmosphere.

  • I would like to make a special mention of Graham Wheeler from Worthing who was responsible for the grey paint jobs on all the instruments from this era - I wonder if he's been paid yet lol.

  • I actually saw them perform this live when they came to Nottingham as part of thier tour and it was awesome! It was great to view this!

  • I saw them at Nottingham too in '83 i think it was at the Royal Concert Hall, was a great show!

  • Yes, you're right, it was at the Concert Hall. I think they played there a couple of times. Gosh! Is it really that long ago?!

  • Well i think they played at the theatre royal next door in the December (before the concert hall was opened) then in Jan '83 at the concert Hall

  • Did you see them when they played at the theatre royal for the Vienna tour Gatdecor? That was the first time that I saw them.

  • Nope i missed that one, i caught the 2nd concert at the Concert Hall

  • this a 1 of fabolous song of ultravox...but it's my favourite song tanks for posting it!!!

  • anyone know what happened to messengers

  • Ultragreat, no need to say any more.

  • His cap suited him better than his long hair spell!

  • This is a true gem! If you haven't got it, buy or download Monument the Soundtrack - I bought it way back in '84 and the drum solo sounds fab played at 10!! Had never seen the concert footage - not sure about Criss Cross' slashed peak cap. Bravo!!

  • great the drum bit at the end!

  • thank you so much!!! i love this song... one of the best from ultravox

  • thanks! please post any other live ultravox from this era you might have available!

  • WOW! A million thanks for this clip! I have only heard about that famous drum sequence in the end of "The Voice"! Fantastic - what a great live band they were! And Midge´s voice is stunning!!
