what bugs me is how Knox didn't notice that the bodies Burke and Hare gave him were people who were murdered. I mean, you'd think it's rather hard to make a body that was killed look like it dies of natural causes, and Knox did study them whole (so no way to hide e.g. a stab mark)... unless they had some superpoison that left no marks? *confused*
@nthgreen87 The first person was old and died of natural causes, but then they saw how much they could make and started killing. Then most of the murders were done by suffocation, often after getting the person drunk, and the first couple were already sick or elderly, which could have been seen as reason for death. Then one was a blind boy whose back they broke (they could have said that he fell or something).. I don't think they would have got away with it if there weren't other possibilities:)
@cleavacarrot1 Why? You didn't do anything wrong, right? You should be proud that you might have an ancestor that helped (if only slightly and in an odd way) medicine and biology evolve. (I would also be like 'Cool! I mifht be related to a mass murderer' but that's just me...)
anyone seen the film burke and hare with simon pegg? if not u shuld, its brilliant! thing is, its not completely accurate, but u know, its pretty good. of course it cant compare to horrible histories. btw, the man who is burke in this, is an extra in the film! awosum!
I have to study a murderer for school and it's a toss up between Burke and Hare or Sweeney Todd. This one is most likely 'cos there's a HH song about it.
@232bluewings yeh i heard about that but i'm not actually that bothered. i mean i'm 14 and he's 30 so nothing could happen anyway so i don't really get bothered by that (bet the baby's a right cutie though) he's still nice to look at though lol :D
Do you know that Christianity is correct? The world around us reveals that G-d DOES exist, and the historical evidence reveals that Jesus Christ really did come to this earth and there is overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ really did physically rise from the dead. Jesus is coming again and the signs of the end times that were foretold in the Bible are coming to pass.

@heahashemi 1827. Most surgeons were only just figuring out how people died. Also, Burke and Hare's MO was to smother their victims. Even today, telling someone was suffocated is difficult.
I love this and there's a brilliant irony that Simon Farnaby, the guy playing Burke has a little cameo in Burke and Hare as William Wordsworth. Also, I think the film should win an award for how many awesome people can you cram into an hour and a half of film :D
Horrible Histories is great for kids, my son loves it, think he gets that from his dad as he is into all that gory stuff :) He’s just ordered an interesting looking documentary about Burke and Hare after finding a video for it on here – it’s called “The Body Merchants”. Quanktomspirit 1 year ago
@Quanktomspirit Well back then there was no forensics or DNA and there was not sufficent evidence that they had comited any crime.
And they where caught in late 1828 there was no police force untill september 1829 just a sort of Town guard thing.
And Burke wrote a confesion saying that Knox knew nothing about the murders and that he forced hare to help him and threatened to kill him.
Its belived Hare lived out the rest of his life as a tramp but ..
