I guess it could be construed as Berlin's East/West of Communism/Capitalism divide (seeing the influence of Soviet and American flag usage), but it seems to be a bit broader minded than just Berlin. From the get go, she wants to elevate herself, but she can't without help (you're still a puppet, either way, so make the best of it, right?). She lifts up the cross for the hand to grab, offering herself, making a choice. In the end, she seems more at ease having been adopted by capitalism.

I kind of go by what I see first. so it's a "Puppet" that I guess becomes self aware, and wants to be free, but can't get rid of it's restraints, so it takes them to the only "person" it knows who can, and instead of freeing them, they just re-label it and play with it again. not sure what the junk around it means, maybe the puppet was thrown away as well. could be a metaphor on people who always end up in bad relationships?
