@1978Lucent I highly doubt that, Second World War Vehicals are usually restored and sold or sold to be restored. Anyone with cash can buy one with the permits of course. Either that or donated to a museum.
@RundownJet Do you know who ritchiewinter is? I am interested to contact him in order to get more information... Thanks anyway to answer my question ;)
And in every other country than russia, there would have to be hundreds of bomb demolition teams and police, and civilians couldn't get within a 100 meter radius of it...
With respect I think you are wrong about such relics passing into private hands. It usually ends up being restored to its original condition and few museums can afford the huge costs.
Kids today can watch in awe things like WW2 fighter planes and tanks largly because wealthy people took the interest and had the money to bring them alive again. The real problem is irresponsible souveneer hunters who are not connected to clubs such as yours. (Keep up the good work)
Wow! And the tracks moved and the suspension worked and everything. Just shows that the transmission hasn't frozen up. I bet they could even start the engine with a little work it looked to be in such good shape. What a wonderful find!
Amazing that all the grousers of the Ost-ketten had survived intact despite the thing having to be flipped over as that must've put quite a lot of leverage on them on one side despite the soft ground. It's in an unbelievable state of preservation. I presume that conditions in the stagnant bog meant there was very little oxygen getting to it as that would account for its remarkable condition.
If this StuG was recovered anywhere near Saratov then it would have likely been lost in 1941-42. There was a lot of fighting near Belgrod in the winter of 1943, but that is over 600 Km away. West of there it would be in the Ukraine. If you had the serial numbers, I'd bet you could find out many facts. The Wehrmacht kept good records.
@Ralroost they said it was left on open air, disfaced with cheap paint and engine looted! the russian way to do things! why to pull these things out, if nobody can restore them.?
had the allies got the M-26 Persion up and giong it would compeltly domanated the Tiger or the Panzer,, the M-26 could load and fire while moving due to the gyro it had and a 90 mm gun , tiger and Panzer had the 88 mm, but only 2 saw action

Some of the best damn tank killers in WW2. They ate Shermans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I was reading one time about one Stug III that took out 40 Allied tanks and kept going.
@YambidiBlamBlam The weakest german tank could take out a sherman... Shermans were not that great of a tank they had numbers and speed and thats about it.
@YambidiBlamBlam yes the german tanks where better, by far but they where also very slow, there refire rate was also slow because of there slow turning guns, and the Shermans out numbered them 10 to 1 and would give up 4 or 5 Shermans to get 1 Tiger or Panzer,, allies could replace them, Germans could not,, victory by numbers
@misfitt58 So we were like the Zerg of WWII. I wonder if any of those super heavy sturmtigers ever took out any tanks. I know they were supposed to tank out emplacements, but what if one of those shells hit a tank? I don't think there would be anything left.
