I had to watch this film because P.Verhoeven was its director. He made brilliant RoboCop, Totall Recall and Basic Instinct. And yes, Starship Troopers was great. Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer & Jake Busey did a great job. Critics gave many negative reviews to this movie but I think ST is one of the most underrated Sci-Fi films of the 90's (along with Strange Days, Alien 3, Them, Lawnmower Man, Virtuosity, FutureSport, The Time Shifters, The Apocalypse, The Arrival, Mimic, Virus, Space Truckers)

Even tough this is by far the best looking, and most fun of the Starship Toopers adaptation. It is the least fateful of the 5. ( movie trilogy, anime from 1988 which is THE MOST fateful of all, and Roughnecks CGI series.)

I do get a kick out of seeing the masses of gun-troopers vs Bugs, but its a huge disappointment they didn't have at least one battle in the film with Go-motion mech-suits vs Bugs. It would have been awesome.

@blackdragonheart16 Thats correct , but the movie came first! Starship troopers was the inspiration to StarCraft , lots of details are the same. For example "Capture the Flag " scene when training ! Well, Avatar pretty much used the same technique as they used here to create the bugs, only instead of using those input devices, they used real actors dressed in motion capture suits.

It's really quite intersting to think about actually, no matter how advanced technology gets, you still need an actor to really bring the character to life, only now, the actor doesn't have to look like what you envisioned for your character.

Avatar still does not show a believable human, they are aliens but no human, there is a reason why we can't do humans, and it will probably be another 10 - 20 years before we can. We have a very transparent layer of skin that is covering out main skin. This changes the way light can reflect off of our skin, which we can't animate yet, They have made CGI people (sin city) but they look very Perfect and look more of an angel then a person.
