  • i dont understand shit

  • @1camilamarrero It's a Japanese translation of the original, pretty much.

  • Anyone able to give us non-Japanese speaking folks a translation? I understand like two words.

  • @ShadowPoet174 just listen to the original song, by Lea Salonga or someone similar.

  • @ShadowPoet174 It's pretty much like the original.

  • I love the part at 3:40. She's intense throughout the whole piece in different ways, but there, she has such a huge contrast in volume; the intensity is nearly tangible. It's really striking, and I can't make the goosebumps go away! This is a wonderful performance.

  • this is translated beautifully! I think it's sadder this way.. -tear-....

  • it would help if i could understand her! joke!

  • she just sing without emotions - and ayumi beats her flat down.

  • @1974luciole If you think she sings without emotions, go listen to her performance of "Jupiter."

And Ayumi is lovely but come on.

  • very touching

  • goosebumps. This is really beautiful.

  • ((IS INSPIRED TO SING THIS)) she's so awesome.

  • So touching~ T-T

  • I don't know any Japanese, only know the english version, but that had me in tears, that was fantastic Minako R.I.P.

  • @upfrontbear74 I prefer the English version of the year 2010 by Samantha Barks but also i like it

  • The last syllable before the "Ai Shiteru" part completely floored me. She was AMAZING! R.I.P. <3

  • wowm beautiful

  • Japanese female singers can be deceiving ... At first I thought her voice is just high pitch & small but then it gets big, still high, & solid.. OMG! XD I love it!

  • "Ai shite iru demo hitori sa" She was full of love yet had no lover in her last days. She was so full of love that it didn't matter if it was directed to her mother, her sister, her fans...affection flowed out of her like pure water from a deep mountain spring. She lived as an exemplar of love yet never partnered up for long with any one man. I believe she truly loved her fans. That innocence that made her so sensual also stopped her asking, "What's in it for me" - she was a treasure. Greg G.

  • lovely voice...

    an angel from heaven!!!<3

  • amazing :'-)

    so sad she died :'-(

  • Beautiful. So sad she has passed on.

  • wow that was amazing! and I could practice my Kanji! lol

  • No matter what language it is, this song is amazing, and still brings me chills.

  • wow! got me the goose bumps. I heard this song so many times. I just felt I heard the song for the very first time. She's amazing!

  • sung too preciously

  • Only her able to high level of her voice on

3 octaves during this song! It's not only professional work ,she wanted be perfect to her public. Last picture of this video shows her so deep concentration ; only applauses of public rise again her smile...So moving Minako san ! Goddess beyond this world.

  • wow!!!

  • Beautiful... Absolutely magnificent. Those words don't even give the proper respect. Angelic performance.

  • was she in the japanese version of Les Miserables?

  • Yep

  • pretty voice.

  • aw..rest in peace minako T.T

  • shes dead?! what happened? how sad!

  • She died of leukemia in 2005. Google her name - that's what I did.

  • If you knew the lyric to the song and what she is ACTUALLY saying... no one can say that she isnt putting emotion to it... or that she doesnt fit the role.. people have gotten goosebumps and she fits the role perfectly.. im near tears

  • one of the best songs from Les Miserables, I

love the french version Mon Histoire.

  • I love her voice :'( i just wanted to cry

  • Minako's fans love her for who she was. She embodied sweetness, sensuality and a love of life. She sings here of being alone but she was comforted by her mother and sister in her last days. Interestingly, not by a lover. She put herself, including her sensuality and her love, into her singing. We admire her not for technique but for embodying a goodness that did not exclude sexuality. She still calls to us from Amida Buddha's Pure Realm. She will teach us the mystery if we listen. Greg G.

  • I LOVE HANEKEN !

  • Emily Weaver !!! is the best!!!!! emily es la mejor de todas para interpretar on my own

  • Seriously...? Emily Weaver? She was mediocre based on that clip.

  • oh so you could sing better?

...do you even know minako honda?

...have you heard her sing other songs?

    ...gawd...

  • But it's like you're saying it as a fact which is NOT. If you're gonna be honest about it, don't say it in such a rude way. Asians can sing with feeling.

  • Are you kidding me?! Lea Salonga aka THE GREATEST EPONINE EVER is a Filipina... an Asian!

  • thats soo... racist

  • do you even know what the word means?

  • You can search google for on my own :P ul find the lyric there

  • racist much?

  • I'm not being racist... this is in response to some douchebag who commented that Asians are ruining the song which is totally NOT TRUE...

I'm sorry if my post offended you but I'm Filipino, saying a racial slur is the last thing I wanted to do...

  • Is using the term "Asian" really a racial slur? I had no idea...wow..you learn something new everyday I suppose.

  • that's what i meant. people need to be sure before they even say the word 'racist' that they know what it means..

  • @jao02557 damn right!!!!way to go lea!!!!!

  • I love Minako, but IMO her performance here is not really that good. She performs it more like a pop song rather than a song from a musical. There are many more better performances of this song in Japanese here on YouTube.

  • Honesty isn't a crime. Nor is voicing your opinion. That said, I don't think you were justified in judging all Asians off of her performance. Furthermore, and I assume you don't speak Japanese when I say this, but you can't understand what she's saying. Therefore, you can't really say she doesn't bring any feeling to it. There might be a wealth of emotion in the emphasis of certain words that you, as a non-speaker, would be blind to.

  • Japanese is one of my favorite languages to hear sung. Toward the end of this piece, I can really feel the emotion coming from Honda-san...AISHITERU....she's saying she loves Marius and she's so sad...

  • Did you not consider that perhaps Minako Honda-san interpreted the song differently and thus performs it (in a concert no less) differently? Sure it may sound odd to you, but that's no reason to generalize ALL Asians to the same category, and justifying your opinion using a logical fallacy.

Geez, learn some tact won't you?

  • Minako was dead leukemia at 38 years old for 2005 years

  • I think she would have been a great Fantine.

  • Sounds beautiful sung Japanese lyrics.

  • to those complaining about this not "being" the character. this is a concert! she's not going to put as much acting into it as she would on stage

  • lea is the eponine that I like to be

  • What did she say?

  • LEA SALONGA's the best as Eponine!

  • AMEN TO THAT!!!

  • I TOTALY SECOND THAT!!

  • i'll agree but minako honda was a better singer overall and she's still awesome as eponine.

  • Sorry, she doesn't sound right as Eponine.

  • she has an amaaaazing voice, but she doesn't fit the character of eponine XP

  • suteki¡¡

  • wow!

  • I think the translation failed a bit, but it's funny. :D

  • goosebumps :D

  • her voice doesn't suit eponine at all... so far ruffelle is still the best eponine ever

  • Ruffelle? Are you serious? Lea Salonga PWNS as Eponine; Ruffelle was terrible--she's nasaly and can barely hit the notes.

  • Ruffelle does a great job portraying Eponine if you're hard of hearing. At least Lea Salonga has actual singing talent.

  • I prefer Ruffelle's portrayal of Eponine as her voice is strong, but fragile, just like the character. I just feel that it is better suited for the role.

Salonga was a great fit for Eponine when she first took on the role, but as she has matured as a singer/actor, I believe her voice became too powerful for the role. She is much better suited for the role of Fantine now.

  • On My Own

  • Frankly disappointed her. I can't find image of "Eponine". Try to watch this video. (Follow my ID)

  • RIP

  • one of the most amazing rendentions of this song ever.

  • minako is the apple of my eyes

  • sounds like an anime character

  • supreme

  • Rest in peace minako. :(

  • What happened to her?

  • I think she died of acute myelocytic leukemia, at least that's what a google search told me

  • aww. :(

XD

  • I do not believe god!

    Why Minako live in heaven?

  • Could someone post the lyrics please? I'm trying to learn the song in japanese

  • lyrics are closed captioned.
