I have a 1983 944 non-turbo sitting in my garage in need of plenty repairs. The only good thing is that it still ran but that was at least 2 years ago. It needs a lot, including sunroof and center console gauges to be installed.
Even today these Porsche's are great they drive nice and are pretty quick. I have an 84' that I restored to original spec. But I had some engine work done by Porsche and its an original rare burgundy paint with black porsche rims.
@darthnefas No actually,I had the Euro model that had the 163hp motor and it had a higher rpm pitch like that,I have a U.s model that I'm working and the rpm is a bit lower
hey man nice car, my 1984 porsche sounds exactly like dat but im not sure of da specs so can u tell me any mods u did(if u did) if not then is this stock bhp?
@doornob76 its not that hard if you know what your doing, i had to do it to mine because i had coolant getting into the oil. head gaskets arent cheap though.
I got a 944 and I just dumped over 3,000 into it and I wish mine sounded like that......Fucking mechanics are scum bags.....I cant even get my head lights to come up all the way......These freaking cars, you have to take apart so much stuff just to work on a minor thing.....Any advice?
There's a point, when coolant mixes with oil, it can be just oil cooler seals wich had to be replaced. Or, as it was written, It's a crack in the block.
my engine is whining also but not to loud sounds like its coing from under the timing belt cover .... is that all i need to doo.... thought it might be the timing belt tensioners
all 944 seem to have quite noisey belts but i think the video camera sound recording ezaferates engine noises

i got the same year and model, mine sounds so much lower rumble at idle and has that whine to it when it revs..love the 944.

does anyone know if it is really hard to replace the head gasket on a 1984 944?

@doornob76 i would assume because you have to remove the head which usually isnt easy.

i have a 86' 944 and the water goes inside the engine. What can be the problem. Is it the head gasket seal that broke or something else
durango147852 2 years ago
Not 100% sure, but if you start getting coolant in the oil, theirs a crack in the block.
thedominionx 2 years ago
if you get oil in your coolant or the other way around check your head gaskets first...
darkeyce02 2 years ago
The Euro versions do not have some of our wonderful Federally-mandated pollution equipment, so they have a few more horses.
Tundramensch 3 years ago
it's the head gasket...it is expensive, but go to a mechanic before you waste the entire motor.
