  • low and slow! not dangerous!

  • What if you were working that day in Atlanta and looked out the window and saw those things coming at ya. Be more than a little scary

  • NICE SHOT! Awesome video!

  • Lost their wings? Unless there is an official report, I call COMPLETE BS on that claim. The Navy is not going to spend a million dollars a piece to train these pilots only to strip them for this COMPLETELY CONTROLLED AND TAME FLY OVER. Just like the Blue Angels, it's AN ILLUSION. They were still high enough to be safe and slow enough to be in complete control. The BS you read on the internet... kills me.

  • Its strange how people criticize this flying as dangerous, yet nobody says anything about the Blue Angels or Thunderbird's who routinely operate closer to crowds of equal or greater size at much higher speeds doing much more dangerous maneuvers...

  • @Prometheus203 I can't see how you could defend "Blue Angels" which, I assume, is an art flying show team, BUT I'm going to try...

The difference is that people go to a American Football game to watch exactly what they paid for, not get themselves put in danger by a totally unrelated thing like an air show maneuver.

At the "Blue Angels" at least everybody in the crowd is there to watch them fly, thus knowing something could go wrong.

I don't see why a flyover is needed for sports...

  • SUWEEET!

  • An awesome video despite the news. Sometime it pays to be in the nosebleeds!

  • these guys were just graduated from what i heard

  • AMERICA... FUCK YEAH!!!!

  • coulda went faster

i coulda jumped on at that speed!

  • The people in that building probably thought there was an earthquake :)

  • HIGHWAY TO THE DANGER ZONE

  • Yeah that was SO dangerous. DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM. Seriously, wtf, grounded for that?

  • Way to go CONDON, you rock! Awesome flyover!

  • The FAA is the most strict aviation regulatory agency in the world and while these pilots deserved to be reprimanded for breaking the rules, a permanent loss of their wings is rediculous and overkill !!! And a far as one of those fighter slamming into the crowd...that's an extremely fanatical view. Risk analysis...a person is more likely to be involved in a fatal car accident on the way to the game! I have more faith in our military aircraft mechanics and operators. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!!

  • hmm, another video honered them, saying it was a planed event.

  • Coolest....flyover....EVER. Hats off to those guys.

  • If i'm not mistaken ESPN said that the pilots were alum's of GT if that's the case they were just giving the fans a show, and proud to be a Ramblin, Gamblin, hell of an Engineer! Cool video!

  • God BlessAmerica! Leave these Guys alone!

  • Good on the Navy for grounding them. They were in BLATANT violation of FAA altitude rules that are in place for YOUR safety. Those rules stipulate flyovers no lower than 1000'. That was MAYBE 200'. The Navy is NOTORIOUS for violating altitude rules. While it makes for a "cool" flyover, 1000' provides significantly more time to react than does just 200' if something goes wrong passing over the stadium. "Heroes" or not, you should not want guys with ZERO regard for the rules flying jets like this.

  • 1000' vertical 2000' horizontal from the highest obstacle over populated areas. Thus they were way below heh.

  • But I don't see how they endangered anyone.. it's not like this is the first time an aircraft has flown low over a stadium..

  • @hydraviper VERY true

  • Your an idiot. Shut up and go back to Dungeons and Dragons.

  • Gtounding of these pilots is just another reason the military is having such a hard time getting recruits. It would be an entirely different story if the Admirals daughter was a student at either one of the schools. This is cheap...TOTALLY cheap...and by the way...KISS MY ASS OBAMA!!

  • These guys are real patriots. They passed exactly at the end of the anthem and it was an awesome salute to the crowd.

  • "Negative Ghostrider, the pattern is full"

  • They are Naval Aviators and they are supposed to have balls, don't punish them for being awesome. That flyby ruled!

  • NAVY F/A-18's rule the sky. I love jet noise.

  • What a fantastic bit of flying! Loose their wings! Jesus if you had to go to war you need guys with balls and character....give them their wings back and let them show others how to fly low!

  • Well said.

  • Back in the day the Admiral would have met them at the bar and toasted them for an exceptional fly by. There was nothing "unsafe" about it. If one wants to whine about altitude, even 1,000 feet in that area would still most likely be classified as too low. So, shall we just do fly by's at much higher where they will not be appreciated...

  • usa usa!

  • Awesome as it was, they almost clipped the Coca-Cola building.

  • F18's fly over my Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Ft. Worth TX, where NASFW flys, and I don't really know why the two pilots have lost their wings. Spank them for good measure, and then let them be the Hero's they are and that we paid a lot of money to teach to land on floating runways. Our service men and women deserve better. Next they will fire the Admiral and other commanders over these two guys. Military justice, don't get it!

  • man tech has a small stadium

  • Univ. of South Carolina has more living alumni in Richland and Lexington Counties alone than GA Tech has in total. You build your stadium to match your needs.

  • Looked pretty darned awsome to me! I can' t believe they grounded these guys for this. What a bunch of Sh*t.

  • I'm surprised. The whole thing looked awesome. I would have loved to have seen it in person. I'm sure the crowd was pumped after that. The punishment seems a bit much, but then again maybe there is a zero-tolerance policy that I don't know about.

  • @SteelClover208

In addition, I think the punishment is overkill; they needed to take responsibility for such a breach in strict regulations, but being grounded permanently is ridiculous

  • @SteelClover208

I won't deny the level of awesome-ness, I went to a University of Michigan football game and there was a flyover there that was extremely low, as well; that being said, it was dangerous, and there has to be consequences for such actions. Regardless of how enjoyable something is, that doesn't make it right, not if it endangers people without their agreement prior to the event, which is why it was wrong...even if I do agree it must have been a sight to behold.

  • When are you going to stop those jockey's doing a fly-by on my tower at over 400 knots? I want somebody's butt, I want it now, I've had it!

  • As an AF pilot, I think grounding these guys is a total waste. The pass was safe, although a little close to the building at the end of the stadium. Either way, lighten up admiral! No one got hurt and the crowd was happy, why don't we stop being pussies and let the guys who volunteer to do dangerous things for a living continue to serve?

  • You put how much money into training a pilot 1 mistake and then bam your done???... i think there should be a 1 freebie rule... a rule so you are allowed 1 ULTRA-LOW flyby without punishment...

  • These pilots knew the rules, they have been trained to abide by the rules, and their act of breaking said rules was unacceptable. It's not a question of whether or not the people at the event enjoyed it, safety regulations are in place for a reason, and these pilots broke the regs. I think grounding them permanently would be overkill but they do deserve some sort of disciplinary action, and a significant one, at that.

  • just think of the pride both pilots must of hade doing a flyby for the school both went to ... it makes me well up inside

  • Yeah, way too low. The Navy's response was appropriate. They know their responsibility as pilots-----USAF flyer

  • Admiral O'Hanlon must be a first-class weanie. Lighten up RJ !!! I was there - the crowd LOVED IT!!!

  • The Navy's response was pathetic and a travesty. We saw this stuff daily in Hampton Roads and always around the beachfront -- Twenty years there and We could not get enough! How better to remind all the world "WE are Here!"? I miss every day not living where I can witness a flyover/touch-`n-go that isn't a segment of a PR-driven airshow. Be glad they are there, Virginia Beach: sans they and the base you would be just one more (and very low-end) tourist destination!

  • Don't pull their wings for this I think that would be overkill. Nobody was in danger from this pass!

  • The board found that they chose to fly using barometric altitude measurements (feet above sea level) instead of radar altitude measurements (feet above ground level).

Too bad Rear Adm. R.J. O'Hanlon couldn't be brought to the stadium in front of the same crowd there and let the people decide. However, the Navy position is duly noted.

And yes, it's still BS IMHO too!

  • It's old news now, but it's still bullshit. Spend millions to train the best sticks to press the envelope and then bust them out of aviation for a perfectly safe low pass. What a pussy Admiral who would do that. A 30 day grounding and a slap on the wrist, then buy them a beer for a good show. What used to be Leaders in the military are now wimpy-assed managers and executives. Pukeworthy, but this is your kinder-gentler Navy. Sure boosts my confidence they're guarding our shores.

  • Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.

  • Both Pilots have been permanently grounded by the Navy. They were supposed to maintain an altitude of 1000 ft above the stadium. In the Navy, Rules is Rules.

  • I was at that game!

    Awesome game and Tech won.

  • Too bad they got permanently grounded for flying so low!

  • They were shit canned because of it.

Nanny state we live in now.

  • It has nothing to do with living in a "nanny state", you idiot. These guys are part of a very select few that get to fly these multi-million dollar machines, and they are required to abide by a very strict set of rules. They knew full well that they were supposed to be at a minimum of 1,000 feet for that flyover, and they were either too incompetent to know they were well below that or they didn't care. Either way, grounding them is the correct decision.

  • Go navy...lol

Those pilots lost their wing's because they were to low. Kinda sucks because the flyover kicked ass.

  • I agree with you guys this was one of the best fly-overs I've seen! They gave the crowd a real treat.

Unfortunately, the US Navy wasn't too pleased and both pilots have been permanently grounded for violating altitude restrictions.

  • American Airpower. Wow. Stops me everytime. Nothing is more awesome to see than jets flying over. Truly impressive. Has to be one of the best flyovers I have EVER seen!

  • holy crap if anybody was in that office building their table would be shaking like crazy! look how close the jet on the left got to the roof of that building

  • That's precisely why they won't be flying them any more.

  • this vid has amazing resolution; you have an awesome cam. GO TECH! and GO NAVY!

  • Nice angle! You could see them coming...We were clueless until they came over the North stands! Afterburners at that low altitude would've blown out eardrums. Had to be about 200ft and lowest I've ever seen for a flyover. Maybe because the pilots were Tech Grads & we got a special treat?

What'd you shoot that with? I've got an older dig camera that shoots video, but I always end up with horrible video. I want to upgrade so I can get some video that looks as good as yours!

  • Thanks, I think next time I'll try for the NorthWest stands. They are higher up and you get a really good view of the planes on approach.

I shot this with the canon 5D Mark II. Decided to keep the lens wide so I used a 24-70mm lens. I also had an external microphone, a Sony ECM-MS908C.

  • WOW...What a setup! Wish I could afford that right now, but the kids have to eat. I thought camcorders were prohibited, but my ticket stub doesn't list them as such. If allowed, I could take my Sony HD camcorder in for the UGAG game...Do you happen to know the policy on camcorders at BDS?

  • I'm not sure about the policy on camcorders. I believe you are correct that video cameras are disallowed. With the number of still cameras that shoot video I suppose it is a non-controllable situation. Since I very rarely shoot video mode in there I don't exactly know the policy so find out before you go buy a camera that could be prohibited.

  • Well, that's one mistake that worked out really well for us.

  • Depending on exactly where you are, Atlanta is roughly 1,050 ft above mean sea level. If they flew in 1,000 ft above sea level, maybe we're fortunate they didn't slam into the North Stands!?!

I wonder if the same crews will be doing the UGAG flyover?

  • wat frat?

  • Only wish we could have had some afterburners though. They always look awesome.

  • slower is better when it comes to a flyover....

  • Slowest I've seen F-18's flyover.
