The world has so much to learn from Kahlil Gibran. I'm grateful that I was able to learn from his writings and his wisdom. Thanks for sharing this documentary. I also produce documentaries, so I encourage you to continue this important project.
I see this video is more than 4 years old now. Did you progress on the documentary? Is there an updated version that we can watch somewhere? Are you still gathering information about Gibran? Maybe I can help, my grandmother was her cousin, and used to exchange letters with him. If you think this can be useful, please contact me at dtabach[at]gmail. com.
This man's words about God, love, life and death changed my life. It is such beautiful work. I especially enjoy the use of symbolism. I know that it is considered by many as purely poetical and not philosophical, however, it makes me wonder how anyone could read Gibran's book and come away with this conclusion.
Years ago I met an elderly lady from Bsharri, Lebanon who was a distant cousin of Mr. Gibran, and she had very fond memories of his kindness, gentleness and deeply spiritual nature. When I told her that I had read his books many times, and loved his artwork, she smiled and said, " If you had met him, you would have loved him so much right away, he was a wonderful man, the way he wrote and painted was really and truly what he was inside." What marvelous gifts he had , genius and artless honesty.
My name in fact is Kahlil Gibran, and i am also skilled with the talent of poetry and diction. I guess that means that i am a descendant from the original poet Kahlil, but I'm a THUG, SO IF YOU TAKE PLEASURE IN A NIGGAZ LITERATURE THEN HIT ME UP AT 832-273-4169
@422brooke ..yes he did Brooke. in the clip you'll see 76 Tyler Street Boston where he lived with his family... look carefully and you can see the welcome lights on in the hall way ...
His eyes have the longest, silkiest lashes i have ever seen-and a sudden scoop in the lower lid. His face changes like the shadows of leaves with every thought or feeling. It is a study in living beauty. Mary Haskell on Kahlil Gibran
the ouadist (lute player) sounds very much like Simone Shaheen (the greatest). It is probably his composition. If you like middle eastern music you might check out some of his albums. He has some you tube improvisations.
I was born with an arrow in my heart, and it is painful to pull it and painful to leave it... I live so much within myself, like an oyster. I am an oyster trying to form a pearl of my own heart. But they say that a pearl is nothing but the disease of the oyster." Kahlil Gibran
Love the video but the tour guide is senile. He refers to Gibran's home as poor & "mutawadi3" when it's as quaint & unique as the most beautiful, little dream house anyone can imagine.Millions would give anything to own one like it nestled in the hills & blanketed w/snow.But that's not the point here. Can you imagine a boy running in these picturesque hills! It's because of this beauty & serenity that his spirit soared to such loftiness & poured out the most amazing novels & poetry man ever wrote.
Oh, okay! Then I guess apologies to the ex-President of the committee are in order. I just thought he was a tour guide instead a knowledgeable Gibran scholar. Sorry!
Regarding Gibran's belief- I am not sure that he really believed in God or spirit in the traditional sense- but h seemed more inclined to believe in the unity of the univierse and spirit- we all are one with the universe and with God/spirit.(as I remember- but could be wrong)
You may really enjoy "tears and laughter" if you haven't read it, please do, if not for the good of your own soul then please for mine. I can only find comfort in sharing his works, and all art that stirs me.
A lovely film to watch! And very interesting to see the places connected with Gibran.
I love his work also. Just one comment - there is so much more to Gibran than just "The Prophet". I love the stories from "The Wanderer" - especially "Garments" ("Beauty and Ugliness") and "The Pearl" - google Gibran and The Wanderer online and you can find them.
there is much more to everyone if you decided to explore. I must say "Imran City of Lofty Pillars"
has to be my Lofty Pillar when it comes to GKG's work. The Video is pure promo not intended for any strong storyline work or personally related to GKG. the use of the "The Prophet" in video is easier for the masses to relate to, in fact the quotes used are from a letter written to MEH + Sand & Form. Glad you enjoyed vid.

To follow her eternal rivers and to climb her walls
And to drink the dawn in a glasses made out of ether
Great gibran, you will always be in our silent memory, and you will always be the son of Geat Syria

the answer to your question is in this clip, watch it again... his belief was basically god has no religion in that he will accept our prayers in a temple or church etc. Gibran does not say the name Jesus in his book, he is talking beyond religion and from his very soul. all his books are very much beyond compare....
