Having the Colonist/Ruthless background, I went Renegade on Balak, except I let him live. Normally, I'd kill his kind of scum, but I couldn't resist spiting him. Whatever the people of Terra Nova did to him, I'm sure it was horrible.
You'd think there would've been a hell of a lot more security on that rock considering that "asteroid drops" are a tier 1 WMD and the sheer amount of destructive potential involved when asteroids with thrusters go off course.
I can never let Balek get away regardless if I play paragon or renegade. In my perfect playthrough I really considered what to do. If you let Balek get away he might and probably will do this again and kill more people, and I can't stand the fought that this was for nothing. Therefore I never save the hostages, unfortunately.
@lilvinnyfufu Bring Down the Sky is a ME1 DLC which is now free. You need to go to EA's support page and do a live chat with someone from support (links are easy to find on their webpage). He/She'll ask you your ME1 CD key and then give you your Bring Down the Sky key in return (don't forget to write it down) and also a link to download the DLC. The procedure took me less than a minute and was really easy. You'll see the destination on your nav map in the Normandy.
The Terminus Systems are infested with batarian pirate gangs and slaving rings, fueling the stereotype of the batarian thug. It should be noted that these criminals do not represent average citizens, who are forbidden to leave batarian space by their omnipresent and paranoid government.
That makes the Batarian home world totalitarian. Perhaps they are not bad people, they are just led by fools. Balak may have been like that because of all the lies fed to him
Batarians are such whiners, they brought themselves into exile after the council didn't give them free planets for no reason, just because they "planned" to colonize them in the future. I'll kill all of those 4 eyed freaks.
Does anybody know what music plays during the battle against Balak and his batarians? I only hear it when I do this mission, and was wondering what it was?
these people are terrorists nothing more, saren was a misguided soldier these men are scum. willing to kill millions of innocent people to make a point.
I did this mission both ways - renegade first, then paragon. Idk... Renegade was awesome, but I felt really happy after saving the engineers with the Paragon ending.
Renegade is pretty natural for me. I couldn't see myself letting that guy go, I wounded but didn't kill him, then left him for the alliance to pick up. Figure they might use a little "enhanced" interrogation. That's how I roll, punishment no matter the cost.
ye, saving a few hostages today but letting him live, may cause the deaths of hundreds of hostages tomorrow, balak was too dangerous to be left alive.
look at garrus' personal mission with doctor saleon, they let him escape to save the lives of his hostages, see what good did that do, the hostages were turned into monsters and hundreds more suffered because of him.
letting the bad guy go IS NEVER a good solution. regardless of the cost.
well not necessarily, the bad guy may do more damage later, but when you're working with a large number of agents you're pretty much in the clear, and he was working with the spectres and the alliance fleet by informing them that this incident took place, that would automatically make them aware of it and track every batarian out there it's like the fbi and what they do with criminals the moment any move is made bam taken down, your way is a good philosophy but shouldn't be the first choice
You never know. You let that one chick go when you tell her to shut her illegal company down, and in the second game she's a law enforcement officer on Omega. But yeah, most of the time you should just kill the bad guy.
I chose this even though I was a Paragon. I wasn't letting that asshole get away so that he can kill more people. I'd rather sacrifice three lives to save the ones he would kill in the future.
Personally I'd say Balak was WAY worse than Saren. While Saren did do terrible things, in the end he did have a noble (albeit naïve) goal and was willing to kill himself to do the right thing. Balak on the other hand is a punk who only wants to make people suffer for the Hell of it cause he's got some jealousy issues.
Saren was just as bad as Balak. Keep in mind that he sought to destroy the entire colony on Eden Prime which had a population of 3.7 million. But at least Saren was more methodical and disciplined than Balak. Balak had a noble cause as he believed that he was doing this for the Batarians as a fight for freedom similar to modern religioius fundamentalists who would do ill acts but be justified in them.
@Gunganbuster Saren was a crazed, and needlessly ruthless bastard. He was the ultimate douchebag, but not a villian. Balak on the other hand, wanted to kill millions of innocent people. It's easy to tell which one is worse.
@Gunganbuster If you read mass effect revelation, then you might be inclined to believe saren is the bigger evil. In the book Saren says he follows two rules
1. Never Kill anyone without a reason
2. and you can always find a reason to kill someone.
Saren may have had a noble goal but he would gladly sacrifice or enslave billions or even trillions to stop the reapers
yeh the first time i completed this i chose to kill him and i shot him on the spot he asked me whos the terriost now i said "You. But youre dead" *gunshot* it was shepard that said that btw
completely awsome i do hope Balak is in the next game if you let him live that would be interesting as i would kill him. This whole mission was hard to decide what to do i wanted to kill balak so badly, and destroy every one of them, but he had to hide behind hostages like a coward
A coward is exactly what he is, as well as a hypocrite. Whenever I try to convince him that there is no just reason for what he's doing, he just ends the discussion and acts like he's won.
I hope Balek returns in ME2 if you decide to let him to to save the hostages, decisions like that would make the Mass Effect trilogy stand out from any other game series.
For my paragon character I let him get away so I could rescue the hostages, but for my renegade character I was amazed at how much you can torture Balek if you decide to kill him rather than save the hostages, as I remember you can choose to shoot him 4 times then either execute him or leave him to die slowly. Very brutal.
probably. nassana (another unc character) was featured in a leaked critical mission cutscene for the sequel so it's a pretty good chance Balek could return as well.
hey tri link... what was your first choice when you did this?
Honestly I hated the Batarians after hearing about all the horrors they commited. Plus he kills the hostages with mercy, but after you wound him a couple of times and I see him dying I couldnt help but feel pity for him. I guess its because he looked so vulnerable.
are you going through this on easy.....cause i mean when i did this on a higher difficulty i took wayyyy longer and i couldnt run through like you did.
i hope shepard or ash or garrus or wrex or liara or tali or even joker does not die in mass effect 2 and i hope you can do playthrough again with all your stats like the first mass effect
Ash will because she can be your romantic partner, same as Liara and Kadan (if you sacrificed kadan or ash they won't come back) As for Wrex and Garus. They have a huge fan base so they will be back for sure (as long as you did not kill Wrex) As for Tali, she will probably come back, but not as a party member.
Well, the next game is supposed to have a large involvement with the Geth so perhaps there is a possible way that she rescues you :D I think that would open up a humorous dialogue between Shepard and her.
why did Shepard just stare at Balek while he detonated the bomb. should've shot the ugly little bugger^^
it's good to see how the renegade options play out seeing as i always lose my nerve and pick the paragon options, even if Shepard's meant to be ruthless.
Ya 90 minutes they said, but it only took me 45 minutes to complete the storyline for Bring Down The Sky. Although, I'm a pretty good run and gunner and I think I did this at max level on my second play through. It's interesting to see if Bioware will bring them back using the "let them escape" option. I saved the hostages and let him get away. Would love to see them put that in for the next DLC Expansion.
Right question... Im assuming this mission can be Downloaded for Xbox360? If im correct how can i go about doing this, cause ive got a level 57 Vangaurd that might be a bit eager to get in on this mission :P if anyone could reply that would be helpful thanks
I wouldn't kill him immediately. I'd have left him to die a slow and agonizing demise after having both his kneecaps shot off. That's how much I feel for Katie!
you know ive always wondered that, i was thinking the same thing when he killed wrex like, OH hes able to knock this dude down and shoot him 3 times with a shotgun but not the batarian
probably when they add another expansion pack. i think they have a couple planned. like when the halo maps became free when they released the newer maps. but it's only five bucks. i'd pay fifty for it, i just love it that much.

man i would have glaze then wounded him and then i would have let the allience deal with it. although bio ware would probably realease another mission that's all like "Sheperd balek has escaped and got another meteor somehow...go kill stuff and make hard desicions! hackett out"
Having the Colonist/Ruthless background, I went Renegade on Balak, except I let him live. Normally, I'd kill his kind of scum, but I couldn't resist spiting him. Whatever the people of Terra Nova did to him, I'm sure it was horrible.

man i would have glaze then wounded him and then i would have let the allience deal with it. although bio ware would probably realease another mission that's all like "Sheperd balek has escaped and got another meteor somehow...go kill stuff and make hard desicions! hackett out"
