There should be a required standard form that ask for information such as cancer, smoking and drinking habits, treatment for mental or medical illness and any abnormal test. These reports must be validated and signed; false report should be fully punishable by law. For all disclosed problem the medical history must be included. Additionally a current medical exam should be required. There should also be a age limit to running, say 65.

His health is the least of my concerns with John McCain, though Palin is clearly unqualified to be President should something happen to him. Uh, Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude (in the top 10%) of his class at Harvard Law School and served as editor of the Harvard Law Review, which is awarded partly on grades. McCain graduated 894 out of 899 at Annapolis. I don't think Obama would give two hoots if his school records were public, but McCain was constantly on academic probation in college, so I'd imagine he WOULD.

Regarding McCain's medical records for public viewing, medical records are private. There are laws in place protecting the right to not have your medical history plastered all over the press. Don't get me wrong, I do not support John McCain or his poor choice of a running mate, but he does have rights when it comes to confidential records.

I do not think that the medical records are necessary. There should be a required standard form that ask for information such as cancer, smoking and drinking habits, treatment for mental or medical illness and any abnormal test. These reports must be validated and signed; false report should be fully punishable by law. For all disclosed problem the medical history must be included. Additionally a current medical exam should be required. There should also be a age limit to running, say 65.

His health is the least of my concerns with John McCain, though Palin is clearly unqualified to be President should something happen to him. I'm more alarmed by what he'll do when healthy--his foreign policy and worldview are dangerous.
Also, I have to say as someone who works in eye care, cataracts are not a big deal. Nearly everyone his age has had them. I'm also having trouble figuring out how vertigo matters.

And just looking at her academic background, her years (or lack of years) dealing with foreign policies, proves she's not McCain's best choice for VP position. coastergirl306, I know this is a delayed response to previous comments but I've read back a ways. I just started med school and both of my parents or practicing physicians giving them that funny little MD to back up their credentials. I don't think anyone was trying to imply Obama is magically healthy in spite of his smoking. Yes, his health is obviously worse than that of a man of equal age who doesn't smoke..thats obvious.

BUT when stacked up against a SEVENTY TWO year old man, even ignoring the seemingly endless list of "shit wrong with Mccain", he smoked more heavily and that alone, as I think even your husband would agree, puts him at just a slightly higher risk.. Then not to mention how that risk sky rockets when you start factoring in the rest of the "shit wrong with Mccain" list. Yes, you are correct that the health issue should be dropped for the simple fact that it will only ever make Mccain look worse.

You can say what ever your little right wing heart desires but Obama's health when stacked to his counterpart is trivial. I don't say that to mean its not important, it obviously is, but it is ridiculous to argue Obama's good health, despite damage done from smoking.

I mistake you because you seem to defend Mccain's health like an avid fan. Constantly making reference to Obama's habits, never addressing Mccains, then sealing the deal as if infallible by the simple drop of your husband's profession. Several doctors would agree that in spite any damage smoking may have caused him that he could still be a very healthy individual due to his commitment to an otherwise extremely healthy lifestyle.

It's not that I am defending McCain's health...but rather pointing out Obama's undeniable heart, lung, and arterial damage as well. Balance.....that's all. Just as McCain could have problems as president....so could Obama.
There are many men Obama's age in this country that are smokers whom have had heart attacks, lung cancer, or strokes due to the damage caused by it.
I'm just pointing that out...as no one else in this entire thread had done so.

Yes, I understand this seeing as you've said those exact words in nearly every post..
However, while - yes - fairness is important, and I fully agree that not just Obama's summary but a full medical report should be disclosed I find it silly to make a big deal about it at all...I mean in all honesty does Mccain's really need to brought to that much more light too? Lets be honest, its not like he'd be anyones first pick when choosing teams for the big game...or any game for that matter.

I'm no McCain supporter, but if FDR's health records had been scrutinized he would never have been re/elected. None of us know or can predict the future. Thankfully the very wise founding fathers gave us just enough structure to protect the country from peril and demise. If due to the failing health of our leaders, thru a Chain of Command. If due to the failing 'health of our government', the same being *of, by, and for the people*, thru not just our right, but our civic *duty* to vote!!

Sure, but FDR was only 50 when elected and got a chance to prove himself an effective leader. McCain is 72 and even with all the advances in medical science it seems a fair question whether or not a vote for McCain is in fact a vote for Palin.

Why don't you request for Barack to open his school records for review. Even the "imbecile" (not your words, I know, but this is how the majority of the left call Bush) opened his records. Does it automatically mean Barack is hiding something? No. But clearly the people have a right to this disclosure. This isnt you and I, he is a candidate for the highest office in America, we have a right to know, outside of what happens in his bedroom, who he is, where he's been, and who his influences are.

Uh, Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude (in the top 10%) of his class at Harvard Law School and served as editor of the Harvard Law Review, which is awarded partly on grades. McCain graduated 894 out of 899 at Annapolis. I don't think Obama would give two hoots if his school records were public, but McCain was constantly on academic probation in college, so I'd imagine he WOULD.

Wow, coastergirl. You have an interesting and somewhat twisted definition of "conceit." Obama is not assuming a second term. He's simply talking about what he plans to accomplish by the end of his first term. Heck, this is the same man who, even though all polls have him in the lead, still refuses to say, "WHEN I am elected..." He always says, "IF I am elected..." Obama may be a lot of things - intelligent, articulate, compassionate, and highly driven... But pompous? No way.

I also agree he is intelligent, articulate and compassionate. But then again, McCain is all of those things as well.

I keep hearing McCain talk about "my term in office." Most recently it was in a speech regarding how he'd handle the economy woes. It seems to me most candidates talk about their "terms" in office. Does even he not believe he can serve two terms?

Maybe it's a picky point, but I think it's telling. I don't think even McCain believes he can go 2 terms.
