  • Why on Earth would anyone think professionalization is a bad thing?

  • Just discovered you here after following a link to your story about Stacy. I like the vlogging idea; wonder if a format other than youtube might allow for more of a discussion forum... Also wondering if you plan to use digital storytelling as part of your sw practice.

  • @jacquelinenovet Hey Jcqueline, did you know that you can post a video response to the videos I have created, which would allow for a discussion.

  • having a hard time hearing you....fyi

  • I think I've fixed it now.

  • Okay, I have no idea what I have done here. But there is no where near enough room to really comment. Maybe a traditional blog (I can't believe I just said that) would be better as there would be more room to comment. Anyway, I will subscribe so that you can get back in touch with me.

  • Hi lonelysocialworker. Been there, done that. My first job as a social worker - registered with the Alberta College 13 years ago with a 2 year diploma and no exam -- was with a not-for-profit doing fee-for-service work with Child Protection. I was driving foster children around, doing supervised visits, a bit of youth work. Did all the paperwork out of my house, and then would drop it off. No collegiality at all. Sucked. Now at a children's hospital and it is much better. Have to shut up now.

  • I unfortunately did not know that the email you sent me wasn't attached to this video... so I don't remember all that you asked me...

Thanks re: my video. It was for an undergrad class.

Re: forum. I'm not sure the best way to communicate, but concern with YouTube include the fact that there are character limitations and you can't create topics. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to set up a site that will allow for more robust forums to allow in depth conversations. Sorry. :(

  • Re: testing. it is not a topic that I have thought about in any sort of depth. However I have conflicting views. I see the value of testing as a method to help ensure that people have access to competent practitioners. On the other hand, social work is such a diverse field that I wonder how the exam would look.

Just as a side note: I like this idea of having a video blog, but you may want to consider another forum for discussing your excellent questions.
