  • I remember playing this 45 on my battery powered phono back in 73...it was old back then too. I wonder what they were chewing on ?? Peyote...mabey...prob'ly just bubble gum.

  • I really like chewy chewy

  • Ahhhhh....the best of the "Bubble-Gum Years" gotta love it!!!!

  • Oh I like Joey's nasal lead vocal. It's a joy to listen to. Very infectious and catchy. I adored it as a child, and I still like it very much.

  • molaaaaaaaaa

  • I almost forgot about this song! When my brother brought this record home, my mother showed me how to melt a record in the oven and make it into a candy dish! LOL

  • Chewy Chewy sounds like Sugar Sugar by the Archie's...they were doing more than spinning songs on those turntables...

  • chewy chewy chewy baby

  • Ahhhhh Chewy!

  • Wow I love it. Joey Levines wonderful nasal singing. This is perfect pop.

  • Joey Ramone said that he patterned the chorus in I Wanna Be Sedated after this song.

  • Chewy Chewy Bubblegum

    YUM YUM

    I think I'll have me

    ANOTHER ONE

  • No hippy would EVER listen to this song. Not even stoned!

  • my sister had all these bubble gum records. lol brings back memories. I was more into Dylan and Hendrix, Stones, Beatles.

  • @fejag58 Seems like bubblegum is coming back dude, it's certainly better than all that fucking hardcore metal crap all the kids are thrashing their arms and legs to.

  • Many a sock-hop tune @ Fort defiance High 55

  • One of the most under-rated rock bands of all time, IMO.

  • Wow.

Now here is a song I have not heard in years.

    Many years.

    Thanks for the memories.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Great song, i love it :-)

  • Ever notice that the Stereo version is a different version than the Mono 45 version? I like the Mono Version better, myself. The Stereo version, to me, is a bit to "Polished" sounding..

  • Fantastic!

  • Comment removed

  • you need to hear the version covered by "Sesame Street" on the 45 rpm EP's

  • Yay for your dad, midgetmaster234! He made a lot of people happy with his music!

  • Now that brings back the memories! (Good Old 45's)

  • it's so........... Archie-ish

  • Good job last nite in Mansfield guys!..Really enjoyed it!,especially the finale!

  • This was such a great song to skate to. Everyone in the rink would sing it at the top of their lungs. Thanks for posting.

  • The flipside, Firebird, was good too. Just a coincidence i happened to eventually buy a used firebird about 20 yrs later

  • tomK back. CHEW CHEWY just came in today on a cd for me to enjoy as i did in 68. this doo wop rocknroll historian who lived thru the 50s and beyond likes it when i see you youtubers admiring this greatest of bubblegum songs. thanks again Ohio Express. Its great to have you back. TOMK

  • chewy its your song

  • awesome!!! thanks for the flashback!

  • here i am a 50s rock historian snd i know great music. but ill confess silly as this song is, I LOVE IT. Best bubblegum song ever. i played it hundreds of times in 1968. i recall it vividly. its bubble , no pun intended, upbeat, funny and catchy. lets not knock it. look at the junk served up today in the RAP of today. ill take this song anytime. thanks Ohio Express. TOMK

  • Así se oía la música en los sesentas... qué bueno que subieron CHEWY CHEWY...

  • Cool song! I've never heard it before. I grew up as a child in the 1980s but I listened to the oldies station as a kid. I thought I knew all the one hit wonders. FOOLED ME!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • The Ohio Express are not a One Hit Wonder group - they had more hits then this one.

  • chewy!

  • i love thise song becuse my dog a dachound hes name chewy he fat

  • love it! Take me back, mamma. Those of you youngsters can't possibly get this. A classic like no other and too bad you didn't get to be alive during that time.

  • Someone needs to do a Chewbacca tribite using this song.

  • It's already enough that did one for granola bars, but for a wookie...TOTAL WIN!!! =]

  • I remember when they used this song in ads for Quaker Chewy Granola Bars back in the mid-90s.

  • Heck-I seem to remember this for a 1970s commercial.

  • use to roller skate to the beat of this song and fell a few times too!

  • and what about yummy yummy, did he wrote that one too?

  • yes actually, and gimme gimme and gimme gimme good lovin' and he helped write mony mony and he wrote sometimes you feel like a nut sometimes you dont.

  • that's pretty cool : º

but how did you guys end up in italy?

  • moved there b/c he started making songs for commercials and then after a couple of years americans didnt really hire him for commercials. he started getting alot of commercial jobs in london and italy. but more in italy so he moved there to be near the buisiness he was doing all the commercials for. forget the company though. we r back in america though. moved back in 98'

  • that's a cool story dude : º

hey drop by on my channel, i think you'll lke the music

  • im here in new bedford ma in my truck in the bunk and had to fire up my laptop cause i wanted to hear this song lol

  • @midgetmaster234 - I believe that he did! We just got a toy poodle and named him Chewy, too, and my sisters and I could swear we heard a song called "Chewy", so I looked it up, and of course, found it on Youtube. If I'm not mistaken, this song was also used on a candybar commercial in the 1960s, too!! It is really catchy.

  • @TypesALot The same went for granola bars filled with chocolate chips in the 2000s

  • @midgetmaster234 AWEWSOME song. Brings back my childhood memories.

  • @midgetmaster234 Serious. Your dad is the legendary Joey Levine.

  • @midgetmaster234 That's super.

  • Great song !

  • I remember listening to this while I was in "Nam in the late summer and fall of 1968. What a contrast ther was between the lyrics of this song and what I saw over there!

  • Comment removed

  • Me too. RR in Thailand.

  • What did you see?

  • Much death and sadness. There was such a great contrast between bubblegum music and combat. It seemed very ironic and surreal. I was a Navy hospital corpsman assigned to the 1st battalion First Marine Division. One day I was loading casualties into a helo and we were hit by a rocket barrage. Our radioman who was not more than 20 feet from me was incinerated. Don't misunderstand. I love the music but it has memories attached to it.

  • lol this song goes great with my dog chewy

  • that's a gooooooooooooooooood song.

  • Thanks, you know we enjoy hearing music from that era !

  • isn't that on the orignal buddah label?

  • I Gonna be honest, The Only Reason I know of this song is becaue a Punk Rock band called "The Vindictives" Did a cover some time ago.

  • Wait a second... this band followed up "Yummy Yummy Yummy" with "Chewy Chewy Chewy"???

Wow. The 60s, alright. Messed up. :-)

  • Actually "Down At Lulu's" followed "Yummy" and preceded "Chewy" but it never gets any airplay. Of course neither does this song.

  • I had all of those songs on 45's in the late 60's!

  • Down at Lulu's was 3months after Yummy and Chewy was 3 months after Lulu's. All three songs came out in 1968. Their first song, Beg, Borrow, And Steal was out in 1967, and their last top 40 song, Mercy, came out in the early 1969. Kind of silly material to sing about at the time.

  • I miss Buddha Records.

  • jewy jewy jewy

  • lol.. those silly jews

  • If Jimi Hendrix was alive today, he would praise that kind of music. Bubblegum songs from the 60s are extremely commercial, and catchy, and stand out among the the other private sounding stuff. check out Ron Dante doing Sugar Sugar, it is actually him on most of the instruments and singing in the original anyway.

  • but who honestly cares what hendrix would think this was fun he wasn't

  • I'm 58 years old Dermie, was the lead singer of 5 differnt bands in the 60's The Fibers, Custer's Last Band, The Crystal Embankment, Loves Labors Lost, and finally The Dreamlovers.(last one in the 90s). I have an open mind for music, love all the bubble gum (reason stated in first comment) but Dermie, I also love groups like the Beatles, The Moody Blues, Jimi Hendrix Experience, and so many British groups from the 60s. not just bubblegum music.

  • custers last band? great stuff!

loved moody blues beatles (particularly the weird stuff like revolution number 9) I think hendrix is overrated though what he could have been if he had'nt died...

    l

  • Actually Dermie, with all that acid he downed, I believe he would perhaps have become another Bobby Fischer. I think his best accomplishments were his ballads. really tear jerking originals. I wasn't a Jimi fan, but more of a 60's British group fan. You know the Kinks, Zombies, Who, Animals, Beatles of course, and about a 100 other groups that were outstanding. How old are you?

  • Hendrix, Yesssss, overrated. I never connected with any of his stuff.

  • That's great, that you enjoy all types of music. Why should there be a wall between liking the Ohio Express, the 1910 Fruitgum Company, and the Beatles, Credence Clearwater Revival, Moody Blues, etc.? It's all good! It's all music. It's essential!

  • Truly "Bubble Gum" gold. Thanks.

  • I had this cut on a Bubblegum LP @ 1969 or so! Very cool to hear it again. Thanks

  • I had this 45. It was Groooooovy! Peace out!

  • weird

  • "Chewy Chewy" by The Ohio Express first charted October 19, 1968 and hung in for 13weeks -- peaking at #15 and selling over a million copies. Other great Ohio Express hits: "Yummy Yummy Yummy," "Down At Lulu's" and "Mercy."

  • awsome my nickname chewy yay i got a song lol i wonder y they called my chewy in the first pleace

  • BEST. BUBBLEGUM. EARWORM. EVER.

    that is all.

  • It's all Chewy's song!!!!

  • Briliant !! Rememer this album my parent's had, used to play it to death when I was around 10, and it was old then!! Many thanks for posting - well groovy, man!

  • Mansfield Ohio 1968...

  • My grandmother used to say, "I don't know why you kids listen to that hippie music. What's going to become of this world?"

  • probably my fave bubblegum song when i was a kid. those were the days!

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Haha you're a legend chewy ;)

  • omg i love this song.. used to play it over and over when i was little. my mom has to hide the tape!

  • I was the road manager and Manager of the "Ohio Express" in the late 70s through the early 90s. THANKS for the Video! WOW this brings back a lot of great memories! Those were the days!!

  • Arggghhhh one of my old favourite songs my Daddy used to sing me. Thanks joepro.

  • wap bop bop

  • FOOLS!!. dONT COMMENT WITHOUT EVIDENCE.

  • Old?? Anyone hear of "Beg, Borrow, and Steal"??

  • :| I had forgotten this song existed.

  • The vocal arrangement in this song is quite impressive. I really appreciate the authentic sound quality on this vinyl. Thanks for the great video!

  • your 24 yrs old

    unreal.

  • I can remember this shit. Damn Im old

  • Hell I'm older. Damnnnnnnnnn!

  • This kind of music is good in moderation. I can't like very many of these because they get annoying.

  • This was my favourite song as a wee-one... Brilliant!

  • W0W thanks for the great oldies

  • I love that song!

I also loved it when Quaker used it in one of their Quaker chewy bar ads once...

  • Great song. Wasn't this the guy that sang with Reunion (Life Is A Rock)?

I didn't let anyone know back in the day that I liked bubble gum music, but I privately enjoyed it, and still do.

A lot of people knock the stuff, but you can argue that its positive, simple, and you can understand the lyrics.

I would think that bubble gum music was a blessing, given the dismal, Vietnam War backdrop.

  • OH Buddy! I'm laughing so hard I'm crying.

Remembered when my sister and I partied with these guys in Muskegon, MI in th 70's and I hid my sister and one of the band members clothes from them when they were skinny-dipping in the Greys Motel swimming pool!

    Aw-Chewy-Chewy! LOL!

  • I have this record in 45 I love it

  • I still have my first record: "Judy in Disguise". It is warped, but I still play it. I can still hula hoop, do the pony, mashed potato, the jerk...

  • Dont laugh but I owned this 45 when I was 11 or so....

  • tks!

  • ANOTHER BUBBLE GUM CLASSIC SONG !!

  • I always hear this song in the background of Kaiji.

  • Such great American music. Why did rap have to hit the scene???

  • Just reminds me of the day of natural breasts, natural bush, natural people, and some very powerful American cars.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA!

    Bow Down, you Communists!

  • those days are gone now... 1 pound is 2 dollars and 1 euro is 1.6 dollars...thank god 4 bush that destroyed you all!lol

  • Well, of those four things, at least we still have the first one. Gianna Michaels...

  • One odd thing that made The Ohio Express unique was the way they seemed to equate romance with food. Hence "Yummy Yummy Yummy," "Chewy Chewy" and "Sweeter Than Sugar" -- allin 1968-9. Great records all.

  • Alright fellows--upload chewy, chewy. I love the record playing-but this it´s about viewing more then just listening--actually both aspects it´s what makes all the fun of it worth it as well.

  • C´mon--give me a break--if you play any record, tape or cd. backwards--I am very positive you´ll find some shitty stuff. Sometimes the singers didn´t mean that or had nothing to do with it.

  • Play this record backwards and it says, "Kill your parents, smoke marijuana, overthrow the government, support Ho Chi Minh, and don't brush your teeth."

  • that explains the mess i've made of my life!

  • my life too...is it too late for a class action law suite???

  • sehr lange nicht mehr gehört....schön...

  • Chew it like a lady

    Paul Revere:Powder Blue Mercedes Queen

  • I used to have to hide this record from my parents, because they heard there was something hidden sexy in the song. I wonder what they would do with RAP stuff today? Ha Ha.

  • Classic bubblegum from Ohio,Joey, not with standing...

  • This will be my theme song for now on

  • Weren't they from Mansfield Ohio?

  • The Ohio Express was from Manfield Ohio, and a lot of the band members are still in contact. They were once known as The Royals in 1967 and "68

  • Yes! I met a wonderful guy named Mike who is the bass guitarist of the current band when they played at the Cannery Casino in Vegas. He's from Mansfield. We exchanged business cards now were great freinds now! FUN group! Wish they played more gigs!!

  • wap bop bop :-)

  • Thanks for the memories! I used to set in Doug Grassles house visiting back in '68/69 in Mansfield.

    Where did the time go!

  • hiya Sho! I knew I would find you here. I was going to send this vid to you

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • fantastic

Lost all my vinyl, Such a shame.

Just grateful we all got out...

  • Lost all my records in Katrina. Thank God for flea markets and antique stores, my collection is growing again.

  • This is one of my favorite songs by The Ohio Express. Great song by them. Thanks for the memories!
