The grainy video is an intentional degradation. If you remember the first days of the Gulf War (circa 1992) there was crystal clear video of missiles going into chimneys or stacks. Then the same exact video was shown days later all grainy and barely visible. The EXACT same video. Why? Because someone realized it was technology that shouldn't be revealed. However the explosion may have sent debris into other orbits around the earth. Explosions are random, and most likely would not send all of the debris towards the earth.

This was probably the worst decision that could have been made for getting rid of the satellite. Now there will be thousands of small pieces of the satellite orbiting our planet at 8mi/s (that is eight miles per second). If a small screw the side of a green bean were to hit any object at that speed, it would explode. Creating more small orbiting debris causing catastrophic destruction.

In the near future, there are plans for a passenger shuttle. Now with all the orbiting debris, good luck

If the missile had hit the satellite, and the explosion was the satellite blowing up, then the explosion can cause pieces of whatever had been destroyed in to different orbits around the earth. Yes some of the satellite may fall out of orbit and burn up, however an explosion is random, and could shoot debris in any direction. Also there is so little atmosphere at that altitude that drag is not that much an issue. Other wise satellites wold need more fuel than can be carried aboard to orbit.

this video doesn't look very "RAW" to me... there are plenty of edits and the frame is shifting around to steady the image of the hit. did they release truly raw video... as in no editing at all? can't REALLY tell how it went with the edits...
