At 1:24 if that spindle was tapered a tad more and could move back and forth about 1 inch or so, it would effectively be a transmission. You could go from a neutral position and have variable speeds. I would think you could start at 3/4 inch up to 1 inch and not pinch the tire too much. Plus, with that particular style tire, the pinching affect wouldn't be too bad.

HELP...if some one can help i have a 49cc scooter.ok i replaced the head, piston,and rings,spark plug too.running good starts in 1 or 2 pulls.still running good ride for 2 or 3 min dies when it gets hot still has spark getting gas.but will not start in till ti gos back to room temp.H.E.L.P........

is the fuel mixed? is it seizing up? i dont know much but if it dies once it gets hot then sounds like its not lubricated or parts are too tight so heat expansion causes it to seize

They are good for their ease of building. the spindles will wear down the tire over time. If you can make a chain driven scooter, it will be faster and more powerful. send me a message if your planning on building a motor scooter

I'm trying to install a leaf blower gas engine on my daughter's scooter using friction drive, but no success. I want to use a clutch and chain. Any suggestions? I also don't have access to welding equip.

Ya, if I can see what the scooter and engine look like, I can give you step by step instructions on how to get it to work. The basic principle to building these things is to find out a way to mount the motor steady to the scooter, attach sprockets to the engine and back wheel, attach a chain and adjust it to proper length, then run a throttle cable to the bars using a bike brake cable and lever. Easier said than done...

It's great for people on a budget, chain drive is better, but friction drive is still good. I built a friction drive motor bike for 50 bucks and it rocks!

well i got the weedeater engine from a construction site, so it doesn't work for some reason.

i've already fitted a bike with a mount, and i've put the throttle on the razor scooter thing.

just that damn engine...
